Never fear – it’s the words of the year

Merriam-Webster keeps a year-by-year list of when words were first recorded, or first recorded as being used in a particular sense. Each year gives us a list of somewhat random unusual and mundane words. Your challenge: Take the list from some significant year, such as the year of your birth, and build a poem from the words on the list. You don’t need to be limited to just the list, unless you choose to do so. Any kind of poem will do – just make it meaningful.

Create Rad Album Art from Photos

First, take some photos of friends, family, yourself, your dog, or anyone that strikes your fancy! Then, make a collage out of your pictures in the software of your choice and turn it into some rad Album art! Experiment with filters, add shapes and colors, and think about how you can create a design out of your photos. Maybe you could bring in a found image or pattern into your work, or maybe you could cut up your photos to create unique shapes- the possibilties are endless!
Finally, come up with a band name and album title to add to your design piece. Think about your music genre and what decade it would be released in. And most importantly, be creative, and have fun!

(This task combines the Visual Assignment, ‘Unsuspecting Friends’ and the Design assignment, ‘Your Big Break.’ But your friends don’t have to be unsuspecting here. By all means, get permission to photograph your friends)!

80’s Product Radio Commercial

Create a 30-45 second radio commercial for a product from the 80’s. Add in some background music and/or sound effects to make it sound like a real radio commercial.

Jamming with Dave

Someone was kind enough to make a “David Lee Roth – Running with the Devil Isolated Vocal Track” (You can download it with right-click, Save Linked Content As. It may be slightly different depending on your OS & browser) We can’t let that effort go to waste. Mix Diamond Dave’s vocalizations with another audio track – music, interview, conversation, whatever – to make something new and amusing.

There are a couple remixes of it out there already. Someone even made a soundboard out of it. What can you do with it? Do Dave proud.

Draw A Musical Puppet

This assignment originated from Lynda Barry AKA the Near Sighted Monkey

While watching the Tame Impala video I’m A Man, make four separate drawings on a single piece of paper divided into quadrants. For each drawing you make, set a two-minute timer to tell you when to stop. Choose one of the band member puppets to focus your attention on and make your drawing about. Make each drawing in a separate pose. Do not stop the video while drawing! Try to capture the energy and motion in each of your drawings. Do a cartoon-style drawing, not a fully rendered fine-art work. Focus on capturing the essence of the character in each different pose.

Save the Sea Turtles

This is a remix project for my composition class.  I’d like a video that can play as commercials and screensavers in hotels and beachfront areas to bring awareness to sea turtle nesting.  I’d like to target teens and adults, both male and female using the research from my essay.

Concert You Want to Be At

You must have a Photoshop app. I used https://pixlr.com/pro/ because I have a Chromebook and it is not compatable with a lot of photo editing apps. If you have a Mac and, a computer that uses Windows you will be able to use a Photoshop app. Once you have downloaded and have set up your Photo editing app, copy and paste a picuture of a concert you want to be at,or you wish you were at into the photo editing app. Then copy and paste a picture of yourself in the picture of the concert to make it look like you were there, even though you were not. You will have to cut and remove away the background of the second picture, so that alll you see is the backgroud of the first picture.
