Poetry Art & Design

This is building off of the Poetry Art assignment and is an exercise how design choices can change a message. Put your selected poem together with a background that emphasizes the message. Then make 3 different versions by varying the typeface, type layout, and type color to see how it impacts the message over all.

Populate the landscape

Landscape paintings often look like lonely places. What if we took some inspiration from Arrowhead altered art and added people or other characters to Bob Ross paintings? After all, every painting needs a friend.

Speed Roasting

Ever wanted to make fun of something? Well one way to do it is by speed roasting! Make a video in which you make fun of different things all at once! It could be a product or a movie or a series of products or movies. If you wanted to make fun of one thing, make a longer version of it and roast it in many ways. Or, roast a bunch of things in short separate ways.

Example: Quick roasts of a variety of fast food restaurants.

think of a poem

Read the poem about emotins.  How are you feeling today?  Try to write your own feelings as a poem.

The Color of Words

Explore how the PhotoChrome site generates a color palette based on images from a word search in Unsplash. Pick a word that you think might generate interesting colors, and see what colors ir produces. Download the image generated and incorporate on of the reported images into it, maybe with a lot of opacity. See if people can guess the keyword when you tweet or blog your image.

Mystery survival

You’ve entered a simulation competition where you must survive from a random piece of media that focuses on survival. One person gets the movie “Castaway,” and the other gets the reality show “Naked and Afraid.” You were selected for the game “Minecraft.”

Nonconformity

Talk about peer pressure, nonconformity. Express how you feel about the future and your career path.

Similar Songs

Mashup two (or more!) songs that are similar to each other, by either the same or different artist(s). Do your best to show the similarities—edit parts of the songs next to each other. If it’s possible to do this without making it sound terrible, try to overlay the songs at parts to highlight how much they sound alike.

Is this the right movie?

Create a poster or ad for an upcoming movie. Let the ad’s theme and movie contradict themselves. For instance, you can have your movie be about kids playing on a Summer day, but your ad shows a spooky side to the plot. A good “everything is not what it seems” kicker. Your movie could be an action packed movie called “Fight It”, but in your ad you can show everyone laughing as if it is a comedy. There are many ways you can mashup this assignment. Make it your own!
