Weather..weather every where

Another pain staking attempt to prove to myself that I am a “GIF” master. It is really proper that I did this assignment because it is currently raining. This assignment GIF The Weather, Man!!

(4 stars)I almost gave up on but I continued to persevered. There is not a lot of pictures this time because I had a hard time remembering and doing this project as it is. These four star projects are definitely keeping on my feet.I used this project to add on to my story about an dolphin having an adventure searching for a rare animal.

  1. So I started this project by first selecting a youtube video that had weather in it. looking was really hard because “weather”  and “storm” are in so many song titles. I think the phrase the worked the best was “Video of storm’s” (I am not even sure how I managed to find the perfect Youtube video)

This is the one I selected to use from Youtube:

2.I then proceeded to download the video to my computer. I had to go though the process by first putting the “pwn” in front of the   “http://www.” and the “youtube.com” in the address at the top of the webpage(I had to call the tutoring center because I had forgotten the three letter word). I decided to favorite the website http://deturl.com/  (that is the website the phrase “pwn” leads to) so I could use it afterwards if I wanted to. Finding the proper link that would download properly was a challenge. I finally found one and downloaded it to my computer.

3. The next step was to convert the downloaded file to an actual Gif. I used the website http://ezgif.com/ to convert it. I tried immediately to uploaded going to the website “http://ezgif.com/” the clicking on the “Video to Gif” tab. When you get there you have then select the “video”and then press “upload”.

The first time I got an error message saying “Image is to large” (it is then I realized I had to make the video a little more compact).

4. I opened imove so I could edit the video, I dropped the video into imovie instead of uploading it by searching for files. When the movie was fully loaded a selected the slides I wanted to delete and pressed  “Delete” on my keyboard. (I had to repeat steps 3 and 4 a couple of times until I got the right length)

5. After the video was converted I uploaded it to Imgur.

How come it always sounds so easy on paper, I think this was the hardest GIF so far. I think that it was also harder for me because I had not gone through the process of making one and I had forgotten what I was taught. I am really glad thought that I booked marked the websites “http://ezgif.com/” and “http://deturl.com/” so I can speed up the process a little more next time.

llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a real place

For this GIF assignment I was supposed to make a GIF of either weather or a weatherman. I always have found the clip I used hilarious that this weatherman can pronounce llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch with no problems whatsoever.

My gif can be found here

The assignment link can be found here

And here’s a video on how to pronounce the town name:

Tornado Gifs

I opted to switch out a Design Assignment for this Animated GIF Assignment that can be found here.

I’ve always had a slight obsession with tornadoes and in a strange way, I look forward to tornado season every year because I know that it’s becoming an increasingly common occurrence for people to catch awesome footage on their devices.

The clips that I made these gifts from were all taped during the recent outbreaks in Kansas and Oklahoma. It’s amazing how close people will get to the camera just for a shot.

I guess I didn’t realize they would be perfect for this assignment, they are forever rotating, kinda scary, huh?

Meteor Meet Garage

Took the footage of the meteor strike in Russia on 2/15/2013 and overlaid my garage under it.

GIF the Weather, Man!!

It’s often unpredictable! It frequently changes rapidly. Every once it a while, it’s downright spooky! Yes, it’s the weather, man! Whether you are a weather nut or not, take up the challenge to GIF something interesting with the weather. Maybe it’s a weather map? Maybe it’s a weather storm? Maybe it’s a weather news-caster-person, man! But find something cool, and give us something real to talk about when we talk about the weather!!

In support of my renewed commitment to the Photo-A-Day Project 365 endeavour, I’ve been transferring images off of memory cards, and started sorting and cataloging photos from as far back as the summer of 2011. It’s actually been that long since I took a disciplined approach to managing my images!

Some may recall (Giulia, so patient!) that it took me most of August 2011 to get whittled through my 800+ photos from Unplug’d11 (I was somehow quicker this past year! I didn’t take as many pics.).

Things like our family trip to Washington D.C., however, or the Windsor photo walk in August with Diane Bedard (@windsordi) and Alan Levine (@cogdog) never did get sorted out in the mad rush of the weeks preceding the return to school in September. (I was getting ready to teach in a new school you may recall, but we found out the week before that it wouldn’t be ready, so we set-up in my previous school, but I had to unpack in a completely different space, and then we moved to the new school after four weeks once it was ready, … yada, yada, yada…)

So, while I’ve not yet posted any of those images as of yet, I came across an animated GIF that I completed this past summer (2012) during our family holiday in Québec on the shore of the St. Lawrence. In checking back on de•tri•tus, it turns out it got lost in the shuffle and was never posted! (It’s not the only piece of art — or piece of writing — that got misplaced or unfinished when something else captured my attention.)

However, in the spirit of GIFestivus2012 — and perhaps with a nod towards the current political/education situation in Ontario, I present, Advancing Storm.

Advancing Storm” by aforgrave, on Flickr

This GIF was made from two panorama shots that I took with the iPhone PANO app while on the beach below the cliff. Between the time of the first panorama and the second one, the clouds swept up the river, and by the time the app had started stitching the second image together, I was booting it for the stairs back up the escarpment to the house.

Made from only two images, the animation is somewhat artificial — I’m fairly certain I used the ‘tween feature to cause a gradual shift from the first to the second image — either that or I effected something hand-crafted using layers and transparency. But the overall effect is not unlike the very rapid darkening of the sky that took place on or about July 12th, 2012.

As an afterthought, I’m going to submit this for a new Animated GIF Assignment #892: “GIF the Weather, Man!”  Care to join in the fun?

(BTW, I’ve also found my long-uncompleted Bladerunner GIFs from that same week. I’ll get those finally sorted out and post them shortly. My newly GIFestivus2012-enhanced GIFfing skills should help in that regard.)

And thanks to Rowan Peter (@rowan_peter) and Alan Levine (@cogdog) for their support in clarifying that, yes indeed, you CAN post animated GIFs to Flickr (with a name like that, why not??) — AND have them animate!!
