It’s a Theme

for my other audio assignment I did Theme song which was to create your own theme song. Rated 4 Stars

I thought this was a fun assignment to do because it kind of describes your personality. I first used the Free sound website to find music and sounds that really describe me. After about an hour of searching I picked out multiple sounds and music. I then used Audacity to edit and cut some things I didn’t want from the sounds and music. Now that I am getting a bit better using audacity I was able to produce a better audio.

My Very Own Theme Song

For this assignment I downloaded a few sound clips from freesounds.org and put them together to create my theme song. While trying to create my own theme song, I had a challenging time trying to think of creative sounds to put together. I then had the idea to try to insert a few sound clips into an instrumental of one of my favorite songs. In preparing to do that, I downloaded the instrumental from my favorite song and I downloaded a few audio sound clips from freesound.org. As I was downloading sounds, I didn’t have anything specific in mind so I chose a few that I thought were fun. I used garage band to bring all of my audio together. As I was inserting the sound clips, I realized that I could create a cool theme song without using the instrument song that I originally planned to add in. I started with the sound of a train and paired the sound of an angelic “ahh” with another sound (one that I can’t fully explain). I then repeated the sounds in opposite order. To finish the theme song, I used a sound clip that says “oh yeah”.  I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Wool… the Musical!

Behind the Scenes

I made theme song for Wool based on this assignment!

I made this piece in about an hour and a half using FL Studio. I chose to use heavy reverb because I thought that’s how it might sound if you played this song in a silo. I chose a VST close grand piano as the single instrument because, first, I can’t play piano, and second, because piano is versatile. I wanted parts of the song to be calm and others to be powerful without having the complexity of multiple instruments. The part that took the most time was selectively changing the velocity on certain notes, or groups of notes, so the piano sounded dynamic, as though someone was actually playing it.

I wanted to incorporate imagery of the world outside the silos, so I added the wind gusting at certain parts. I added the birds chirping briefly to represent what people see when they clean, but it all gets quickly swept away by the outside. I feel this song tells the journey of one who finds the truth, and goes to clean. There’s a build up at the beginning (discovering the truth), the climax in the middle (fighting, or being arrested and put to the cleaning), and the peaceful end (when they step outside and blissfully experience the lie IT has provided).

Ode to Oryx

Hello everyone! Today I had a breakthrough (breakdown?) and decided to use GarageBand to make a theme song for my novel. I chose this assignment because I wanted to learn how to make music (finally).

Below is my final product.

Behind the Process

Before I entered GarageBand, I decided what themes my music should have. I decided to focus on Snowman’s love for Oryx. I wanted to make this theme very obvious so I went to Looperman and found this loop with someone saying “Love”.  I also wanted the song to be more intense because I imagine Snowman listening to this and trekking through the woods.

So I created a new project in GarageBand and imported the loop. I then added a drum backing called “New Soul Curtis”. I made the drum Loud and adjusted some of the kick and snare. I decided that the song needed to be filled out more. Thus, I added to some sound effects namely Electro Clap Topper, Lockstep Beat, and Formidable Future Bass. I then made all these effects match pitch and tempo to the original loop. I then easily added a fade out.

After I uploaded my track to SoundCloud, I needed to create a image for the track. I decided to use an image of my friend West Virginia. He looked somewhat “Snowmany” to me. I adjusted the exposure and added a grainy filter to give it a vibe. I did this on Snapseed on my phone, because I had already suffered and did not want to mess with Photoshop.

There really was not a difficult thing as the entire process was difficult. I have never used GarageBand so I was constantly Googling “how to change tempo?” or “how to use GarageBand.” However, I am an independent learner so the struggle taught me how to use GarageBand. I think that teaching myself software is something I do well. I am proud of this song as it sounds pretty good (at least to me). I want to improve the beat matching. I feel like it’s just a little off, but because I’m not a music producer or as experienced in GarageBand, I couldn’t figure out the issue. If I could do this assignment again, I would learn more about beat matching and fix this in GarageBand.

I really did like this assignment and would do it again. It was fun to create music as I haven’t really done it digitally before. Hopefully, you guys liked the first song I’ve ever produced.

That’s it folks, I’ll catch you on the flipside.

How to never fear again: REMIX A SONG W SPEECH

My theme song is a bit of a twist. I used logic pro x and garageband to create a beat, however in I Am Legend (the movie version of my book) Will Smith is the main character. There is this famous speech Will Smith gave that is this:

I used this speech embeded in my song to be more creepy and to put a twist on a narrative type of theme song for I Am Legend.

i edited beats within him speaking, and the goal was to make it creepy, but also fit the book.

I imagined this is the speech Robert Neville would give surviving the apocplse, which is why I decided to create a theme song type of remix on speech like this.

Check it out: it’s a bit long, but I think its cool:

Assignment Bank 10 #DS106 (5 Star)

I did “Your Theme Song” Audio assignment.

All my music came from YouTube. I just edited 2 songs that sounded good to me and combined them together. I took out parts and lowered the sound, so it wasn’t blasting, however it’s still loud so be careful.

If you want to try it yourself and do way better than I did, you can find it here, http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/your-theme-song/

My Life Theme Instrumental

This is a trap beat I picked out on youtube. I like trap and rap music beats because I enjoy hearing the loud bass.

My Own Theme Song

Assignment link: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/your-theme-song/

I couldn’t help myself when I saw an assignment that involved writing your own theme song. I chose to write my own theme from scratch. I used FL Studio to recreate something I had already written on my bass. The long winded way to do this assignment would be to record my own bass part and line it up with a drum track, but doing the music electronically is far more efficient.

This song is focused on how much of a troll I am. I wanted to create a tone that is reminiscent of circus music, but with a darker undertone to match my sometimes dark sense of humor. This is no song a clown would dance to, but its a song that Michael Seim would dance to. Also, it just wouldn’t be right if the song was anything more than just bass and drums, since I live, breathe, and eat bass guitar.

Final Project Tutorial 2

The assignment was Create your theme song worth 4.5 stars. I love recording music with good old CoolEdit96. So old but easy and free. I started off recording the two guitar parts first. I used a Les Paul guitar and for effects a Bose Metal Zone pedal. Here are both guitar parts.

intro g

I then used a Fender bass for the bass line and an Alesis SR-16 drum machine to round out the music portion. I opened up a second CoolEdit to record with, the first one open the guitar part to play along with. You can play and record at the same time. Once I have what I like I copy and paste the bass then the drums. It looks like this when done.

intro gbd

I then recorded the vocals and pasted them over the music. No vocal effects, just some good old death metal! FYI if you notice the file name Intro g the g is guitar. Intro gbd means guitar/bass/drums, meaning those tracks are finished but still need vocals!

Cowboy Theme Song

When I first saw this assignment description, I was excited because I thought I could get creative with my very own theme song. For the assignment, I would have to create my own theme song using an instrumental from a song and adding sound effects. I was thinking of all sorts of ideas for my theme until I realized I had not done any assignments that was related to my created character; so I had to change my thinking to be a bit more specific on which song to use as a western instrumental. I couldn’t think of any songs that I could use until my dad gave me an idea from a song that was playing on his iPhone. He had heard the song in the movie “The Last Boy Scout” which starred Bruce Willis and had liked the lyrics. The song that he had put on his iPhone was “I Wanna Be a Cowboy” by Boys Don’t Cry. The background sounds of the song actually sounded like it would relate to what I picture a Cowboy might listen to while riding and looking at his surrounding landscapes. The lyrics to the song sounded really goofy, but for this assignment I didn’t need the lyrics; so I planned on his the instrumental to this song.

The next thing that I did was find the song’s instrumental version on Youtube and convert it to MP3 so that it could be run in Audacity. I cut down the instrumental to be around a minute, so it could be a quick listen. All the best theme songs I ever heard are usually around this length, so I figured a theme song I would create would be about the same length.

After I had cut down the instrumental to one minute, I went online to find different sound effects that would work with a Western cowboy. Using the link given in the assignment description of SoundBible; I figured the best sounds for my western character dealt with guns/rifles being fired and a horse. After downloading the sound effects, I carefully placed them into the song by making audio judgments where I thought the best place to have the sound effects were. I tried to spread them out so that the musical instrumental wouldn’t get drowned out by the sound effects. The part that I really wanted to preserve was the guitar at the end, because putting sound effects along with that would just ruin the theme song. Some of the sound effects I used was shotgun fire, a horse neighing, and a pistol gun fight that goes on later to coincide with the faster pace of the song.

Hope you enjoy listening to the theme song I created for my created western character of the “Fastest Gun in the West”.
