Audio Assignments Week 7!

This Assignment is worth 2 stars. It is AudioAssignments2004. I had to create the we will rock you beat from the artist queen in a creative way. I used a paper cup and my breathing to create the beat.

This assignment is worth 3 and a half stars. It is AudioAssignments1901. I had to do a country accent. I decided to tell a story of me trying to find my car in the parking deck and then converted the video to an mp3 and put it on sound cloud.

This assignment is worth 3 stars. I had to make a beat using house hold items. I used my backpack and a large book from one of my history classes. This assignment was AudioAssignments1880.

My final assignment was worth 1 and half stars. I had to order in a foreign accent. I once again used my boyfriend to help. He played  the McDonald’s worker and I was the person ordering. I had an English accent and he had an African.

Agent Smith – Cool Sound!

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/rhythms-with-things/

Greetings, fellow agents. I discovered a new sound! It’s amazing! Listen to it below. I just managed to find stuff laying around and got a beat going on it. I had to be extra quiet though, since I am in the middle of a mission in between enemy territory! Wait…why am I being distracted!? Am…I…succumbing to…mind control…help…… Agent smith, signing off.

Rhythms with things 3 star

For this assignment we had to make a rhythm with something from around our house. When I was a little kid I like to make drums out of pots and pans so I decided to do that. I used a spoon and hit it against the pot and my counter top to make a beat. It was the first beat that came to my head so I just went with it. I thought I actually came out pretty good. I recorder it with audacity and uploaded it to sound cloud.

Rhythms With Things

“Rhythms With Things”

In this assignment I was assigned to find things around the house to make a rhythm with. The items I gathered were a metal plate, a glass plate, a empty plastic water bottle, a full plastic water bottle, a spoon, and a pencil. Im not very musical so it took me about 15 minutes to divide up all the different sounds that all my items generated into something that sounded somewhat uniform. This assignment was worth 4 stars toward my weekly 8. This assignment can relate to our discussion about the internet because I am using the internet to share my own creativity. I want to do a lot with sound cloud because I think you can gather a lot more from sounds than from other forms of media. Enjoy!

Rhythm with Things

For my other audio assignmentI made a song with Audacity using random household items. This assignment was worth 4 stars.

I’ll start by explaining a little bit about what I used for this assignment. When I read the description, I knew I had to do this! I love the idea of using non-music items to create a sort of song. I decided to use my car keys to jingle, tapping on the couch, clicking a pen, pulling on some tape, and cracking some salt in a grinder. So when reading through this list, non of these sounds would sound that interesting alone, but recorded and layered in Audacity is a whole different story. Take a listen to my song on Sound Cloud for this assignment!

So as I started to create an audio piece for this assignment, I immediately thought of Tarzan. No not the new one coming out (I haven’t had a chance to see that one yet). The original Disney Tarzan.  As a kid, Tarzan was my absolute favorite movie. I would watch it every day that I could and it would never get old. There is a scene in the movie where the gorillas find the camp set up. They start to explore all of the new objects they have never seen before and create a song. This clip is worth a watch if you have never seen Tarzan or do not remember this scene!

Even though my audio piece is not as elaborate, I was going for the same idea when creating it. The layering of different audio pieces and using repetition or some pattern is all it takes to create a song.

From the resources of the week, a video on Foley Sound stuck out when creating this work. I had never heard of this before and was very intrigued by the process. It is amazing how technology has progressed but it is so much more impressive all of the measures taken before we had these technologies. Foley Sound is an everyday sound that is recreated in a studio in order to add to the effects. People record different sounds such as walking, falling, dropping, slamming, and any other sounds needed to enhance these sounds in recordings. My audio piece used this process of creating a sound using any item to create the sound effects of a song.

To create this assignment, I used Audacity for the first time. Using different resources availabe such as, Layering in AudacityI was able to explore and learn how to use the application.  Screen Shot 2016-07-10 at 5.41.36 PM

I began the process by recording many items around me to see how the sound turned out. After recording about 8 items, I narrowed it down to the ones that sounded best. Items that were either too busy or too loud were the AC unit, knife hitting a cutting board, running water in the sink, and clapping. I was able to delete these sounds by hitting the X in the top left corner of each individual track.

After recording and picking the sounds I wanted, I copy and pasted the areas that sounded consistent and smooth. Copy and paste functions are the same as using Word and can be seen on the middle bar as so. I also deleted sections of the recordings that were weaker or blank.

When copying sections of audio, I placed them in a pattern that sounded good together and created a rhythm.

I repeated this procedure on all of the sound effects I had recorded. I played around with the effects tab on the top of the screen. I added an echo filter to the car keys clicking. When adding an effect, a preview button comes up to listen before adding it to the track.

To export the audio project, I first saved it in Audacity in case anything happened in the export. Then scrolled down to Export Audio, changed file type to MP3 and saved it to my desktop. I uploaded it to Sound Cloud to create my final product.

Rhythm

I chose to complete the audio assignment ‘rhythms with things’ an assignment worth three stars.

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/rhythms-with-things/

For this assignment I used a pen, kleenex box, and hands to create a rhythm.

For this assignment all I did was play around with a couple beats until I felt comfortable enough to replicate the rhythm for an extended period of time. I tapped a pen on the kleenex box and clapped my girlfriends hand. The end product is displayed above.

This is a fun assignment that’d I’d recommend to everyone else.

Audio Assignment – Rhythms with Things

I struggled with this assignment mainly because I don’t have rhythm. My solution? Play with racquetballs. I took two of my racquetballs, began recording and simply played around with them. I even accidentally knocked over their container (which can be clearly heard in the video). By the end of it, I had a clip of me just bouncing balls with a loud clang in the middle. I kind of really liked how it sounded! So that’s what you are listening to, me messing around with some sports equipment and most likely annoying my downstairs neighbors.

Rhythms With Things

For this assignment find your inner DJ! Look around your house and find an object or two that make a cool noise, and create some sort of rhythm with it! Record, and upload it to Soundcloud for everyone to hear! Have fun and be creative!
