Audio Assignment: Quotes

Audio Assignment 220 asks us to think upon and record a quote a day. I have chosen two quotes that are appropriate for Prisoner106.

The first may be familiar to you Harry Potter fans. Harry is slain by he-who-must-not-be-named, but awakes in a bright, foggy King’s Cross Station, and has a conversation with the deceased headmaster, Dumbledore. In an interesting view of the afterlife, Dumbledore leads Harry to understand that it is really his choice to stay dead or wake up back in the Forbidden Forest where he had just been slain. Harry wonders if this episode is real or if he is just imagining it, to which Dumbledore gives his reply. (For the sake of our summer2015 course, I have made this quote personal to Number 6, rather than Harry. Forgive me the modification, JK Rowling, and thanks for the multi-volume story I’ve enjoyed in many ways.)

The second quote comes from George Orwell, and has to do with keeping INFORMATION to yourself.

I read these quotes into my iPad using the Voice Record Pro app, converted to mp3 within the app, saved to Drop Box so I could open it on my computer with Audacity. There I adjusted the levels a little, but also adjusted the pitch (one up, one down) a half-tone or so. I thought about adding a bed of music or sound effects, but ultimately left the quotes to stand alone, perhaps for future modification by unknown and unknowable users. I posted the audio on SoundCloud, and notice that in the first few hours of unannounced presence, they were listened to, and even reposted. The repost was from a SoundCloud user not in the Prisoner106 universe, but this shows how open sharing of our little summer activity reaches further than we might be aware.

Be seeing you.

A Quote A Day!

I only had one star left to do for my audio assignment so I chose an easy assignment- the “Based on 1-Quote-A-Day Project” audio assignment for 1.5 stars. I really liked this assignment just because I already had a great quote picked out! I usually find a quote to serve as motivation to get me through the day especially on super busy days where I know I need to stay focused and keep going. I’ve had this quote sitting at the bottom of my to do list for a while so I chose to use it!

“Fear stifles our thinking and actions. It creates indecisiveness that results in stagnation. I have known talented people who procrastinate indefinitely rather than risk failure. Lost opportunities cause erosion of confidence and the downward spiral begins.” -Charles Stanley

This was a quick easy assignment just to finish things off for the week!

Eye of the Tiger

For my last audio assignment for the week I decided to record one of my favorite movie quotes and added some music from the movie to help you guess where it came from! I even added a little accent
my best impression of it, to add to the effect!

The Quote That Makes My Daughter Roll Her Eyes Daily

This is the quote that I make my daughter say every single day before I let her get out of the car when I’m dropping her off at school

Rethink before you speak

This challenge made me think long and hard. I wanted to pick the perfect quote. This challenge was about picking a quote and just simply reading it. It sound really easy. But I wanted to find one that I had liked on someones Instagram that hit home for me. So I searcher for 10 minutes and found it. this quote hits home. Many of us say we are mentally burned out. What about the rest of the world. This quote that I read really makes you think twice before you speak. It made me open my eyes before I complain. What do I possibly need to complain about when the world that I live in with millions of others that are going through something twice as big as my little problem. Listen to this quote. I wish I could find where she got it. But really listen to it. Close your eyes and open your heart. Just listen.

I used SoundCloud to record me saying this quote.

quote from the Twilight Zone

At the end of the episode of the Twilight Zone “Eye of the Beholder” (watch it here) there is a pretty good quote. I decided to do a recording of it.

I think this quote has strong meaning. It is very true. Beauty is very subjective from one person to another. One person could be very attractive to one person and unattractive to a different one. I recall reading something from a long time ago that stated being fat used to be considered a sign of beauty. This was back in the middle ages and being fat then meant you were rich and didn’t have to work for a living. What will people thing is beautiful in a 100 years? Your guess is as good as mine.

Here is the quote written out if anyone is interested in copy/pasting it some where

Narrator: [Closing Narration] Now there’re questions that come to mind. Where is this place, and when is it? What kind of world where ugliness is the norm and beauty the deviation from that norm? You want an answer? The answer is, it doesn’t make any difference. Because the old saying happens to be true. Beauty *is* in the eye of the beholder, in this year or a hundred years hence. On this planet or wherever there is human life, perhaps out amongst the stars. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Lesson to be learned – in The Twilight Zone. Source

Since this was a simple speaking assignment, I just used a app on my Iphone to record my voice. This assignment is worth 1 star and can be found here.

Weeks 7 & 8: Quote A Day

In my final audio assignment this week I needed to fulfill my final star for my 5 stars worth of audio assignments. In this last assignment called “Quote A Day” we were asked to “Read a quote aloud and record it!”. For this I wanted to choose one of my favorite quotes and try to read it how I’d imagine the speak would have read it. The point behind this assignment is to get people to guess who originally said the quote without looking it up! So let’s hear those guesses!

Quote of the Day

For my final audio assignment I did One Quote A Day which was worth one star.  The instructions for this assignment were “Quotes could be nice only by its own, but it might go further when it went beyond written words. Read your quote for a day out loud, and record it! Do not forget to give an appropriate feeling to it. Tone of voice could be a helpful hint for answerers to guess where your quote came from. Mimicking the original tone could be nice enough, but you also can add your own feelings to it as well. :)

I was looking for a one star assignment and was excited to find this one.  The quote I choose was one from my little sisters favorite movie ever We Bought a Zoo.

This assignment was quite easy to do.  All I had to do was record it on audacity and then import it into soundcloud. So here it is:

That’s all my stars for this week!
