My perfect day at the beach.
The point of this assignment was to create a place using only sound effects. For this process, I went to FreeSounds which is a free-use platform with thousands of user generated sounds. My goal was to make the listener feel as if they were sitting on a bench by a busy street. I searched for different types of sounds to emulate the feeling of being outside. I found sound bytes that sounded like cars passing, birds chirping, and even a bike bell.
To create the scene, I uploaded the sounds into Audacity. In order for the sounds to seem more organic, I cut them up and scattered them throughout.
When I was happy with the finished product, I uploaded it to SoundCloud.
The end result turned out to be the sounds of a busy street. I am very pleased with how it turned out.
The “Create a Place” assignment was to “Create a place by just using sound. For example, make the listener know where they are if outside use birds, cars, etc.”
I decided to create a farmyard scene. I used freesound.org to find lots of different sounds, such as a rooster, birds, chickens, etc., and overlapped and cut them using Audacity. I think it’s pretty easy to tell what the place I created was by just listening to it. You can listen below!
So for this assignment I kind of twisted it a little and put my spin on it. We were tasked to create a place with sound, I created a place and a scene at the same time. My goal was to tell a story through the sound, it could be a busy city morning or just a normal day on i95, I wanted to leave this up to the listener. I combined about 5-6 different sounds to create this story so I hope you enjoy!

It had taken me a while to find audio assignments that
I am happy with all of my audio assignments and how they turned out. I enjoyed doing the ones i chose this week as opposed to week 5’s assignments. I especially enjoyed the create a place assignment. I had wanted to add a phone ringing in my clip, but all of the ones coming up were from older phones, nothing like a newer digital ringtone. So i had to record my own. I had my girlfriend call me so i can record a small clip of the ring tone and stagger it. I also had to lower its sound because it was way too loud for my “coffee shop” setting
Being from NY I loved the idea of the assignment. The goal of the assignment was to create sounds that would match up with a city. I realized that I didn’t want to just create the sounds but I wanted to actually show what it was like to be in the fast paced NYC. I took this video and them eliminated the talking while I was in NYC just last month.
I really enjoyed being able to showcase how loud the city is and what exactly goes on when one lives there. It is so fast paced and I loved being able to show just how loud everything is. I think I really was drawn to this assignment because I was able to get close with my home and think about everything that I used to do in the city. I didn’t find it to challenging to create the assignment and was surprised at how easy I was to edit and create it. Hope y’all enjoy!!!
Create a Place (4 stars)
For this assignment it said to create a place by just using sounds. So what my process consisted of was first, going on to freesounds.org to search for sounds to try and create a place out of them. As I was searching through the first few pages of sounds I found multiple sounds that would fit together with each other and tell a story. The story that I am telling with the sound I created is one of a man who lives on a farm that is walking down his gravel path/driveway to his chicken coops and cow fields. All while being accompanied by his 3 month old puppy that loves to bark at the animals.
For this assignment create a place by just using sound. For example, make the listener know where they are if outside use birds, cars, etc. You can get sounds from https://freesound.org
Welcome to Jurassic Park! Cue the theme song. I decided to create the feeling that you’re in Jurassic Park using sounds from Freesound. I found some really great dino and forest sounds to use for this assignment.
I chose to create Jurassic Park using sounds because I love the movies and I think dinosaurs are cool. One of the hardest parts about this assignment was finding sounds that sounded like dinosaurs and not other animals. I listened to countless sounds to find the best ones. I tried to do some kind of layering to make the sounds seem more natural. I am not completely sure how well that worked, but I like the way the sound clip came out.
I used Audacity to edit the sounds a little bit and make the sounds fade into one another more naturally. It was fun learning how to use Audacity this week and be able to create cool sound clips.
My final assignment for this week’s Audio Assignment component was using sounds to create a place. I decided to use sounds to make the listener feel as if they were at a basketball game. The sounds I used were from freesound.org except for the sound of the buzzer going off. I was able to find sounds that worked for a crowd cheering and the sound of people playing basketball, but there was no sound that fit the buzzer noise I wanted. I found a clip on Youtube that had the right buzzer noise and recorded it on the voice recording app on my iPhone. Then I uploaded all the noises to Audacity and combined them! It’s up on my SoundCloud! This
For this assignment we had to create a place by using only sound. I made the music a little louder so that you wouldn’t be able to guess so easily. I was inspired to make this place because I was at a more modern version of this place last night. Well, there is your first clue. So tell me, do you know where you are?
