Forced Collaboration of XXXtentacion, Lil Dicky, Smokepurp and Lil Uzi

For this assignment I had to force several musicians together to create one unified song. I decided I would select my favorite style of music, that being rap, and try to pin artists that typically wouldn’t be together in a song. I ended up choosing the late XXXtentacion and Smokepurp as two artists that would collab together and added them with artist Lil Dicky. The styles of the three rappers are fairly different from each other and combining them together I felt would be interesting. I used audacity to compile all of my recordings, which took forever due to finding clips of freestyles that had little to no music in the background. Once I found the recording of the lyrics I had to find a beat which suited the three together, which I think I found. Overall the process was extremely fun and I hope everyone enjoys this odd collaboration.

Radio Bava

AsaOzzyA while back I was looking through Youtube to see if anyone had done a fan video mash up of Mario Bava’s Black Sabbath and Black Sabbath’s Black Sabbath from the Black Sabbath album. I couldn’t find one – maybe it’s too obvious. Then I listened to David Kernohan’s FOTA Radio show, where he mixed dialogue from Twilight Zone and other sources with his drugged-out hippie dance music. I thought I’d take dialogue from Bava’s Black Sunday and mix it in with Black Sabbath to make it a kind of Asa/Ozzy duet. I guess it’s sorta like some audio assignments, Dialogue Mashup, Music Mashup, or Forced Collabo. Maybe. I thought of doing others and making it a Radio Bava show, but that might be taking it too far.

It was pretty easy to do. I used the Audacity/Soundflower trick to gat audio from the Netflix stream, and used Easy Youtube downloader plugin for Firefox to get the music. The song has long instrumental parts where I could dub in dialogue from the film. I had to amplify the dialogue quite a bit so it didn’t get drowned out, and I probably overdid it. To bring up the dialogue, I highlighted short bursts of it and used the Effects-Amplify function. I had to do it segment by segment because some parts were loud to the point where they would get clipped if amplified further. That was the tricky part.

Eminem vs Mr. Henry Bermis

So I needed one more star to finish my audio assignments for the week and it had to be related to The Twilight Zone.  I was looking around at the 1 star assignments not really finding any that I could relate to the show that well and finally ended up deciding to do the “forced collab” assignment.  Which was to “make a song you would never expect to hear” by mixing two songs together – I took 3 clips: Eminems “Lose Yourself,” a short clip from the Twilight Zone episode “Time Enough at Last,” and the Twilight Zone theme song.

The reason I chose “Lose Yourself” is because of the lyrics: “if you had one shot one opportunity would you capture it, or just let it slip?” In the episode Henry has his ultimate opportunity but “chokes” (like Eminem says in the song about choking at the rap show) and drops his glasses he just “let it slip.” Eminem talks about time being up and capturing the moment saying “you only get one shot….opportunity only comes once in a lifetime;” in a way it’s very reminiscent of Henry Bemis.

I used garage band to cut up the Henry Bermis clip as well as the Twilight Zone clip. I duplicated the Henry Bermis clip and placed different parts of it throughout Eminem’s song.  It’s not perfect and I definitely think it could have been a lot cooler, but this is definitely my favorite audio assignment of mine this week and I’ve always been in to mashups and remixes so I’m glad I got the opportunity to make one for myself! The beginning is definitely the best part so if you don’t like Eminem then no need to listen past the first 1:10 to get the idea.

Forced Collabo

Make a song that you might never expect to hear! Take some background music, or make your own, and find some artists you like and make a forced collaboration with their lyrics Try to make it sounds as natural as possible.

Collabo

This is a rushed posted, as I am about to leave for real-life things. I will update more thoroughly when I get back. The concept behind this assignment is to take musical artists that you like and make a collobaration with an instrumental background.

I chose to use some rap songs because I found it easy to work with the tempos.
