Imitate some weather..

This was a cool assignment.  I used Audacity to make my own sounds to imitate the beginning of a thunderstorm.  I made the wind myself, the rain was my fingertips on a Diet Pepsi can, and I also did my own lightning strikes. (Sorry could not figure out how to make thunder.  Everything with my hands sounded too drum roll like.)  Once I made the file in Audacity, I exported the track to be saved as a .wav and uploaded it into Soundcloud.  Fun little assignment for 1 1/2 stars.

“I Never Knew This World Could Be This Mad”

For my my final audio assignment I decided to do the Imitate some weather assignment (1.5 stars). I didn’t really have to think this hard for this one I knew that I was either going to do the wind blowing, waves crashing, or thunder. After I thought about each of these and actually tried to make the sounds with my mouth I decided that the best sounding one was the wind.

I had to go into the bathroom to record this effect because my friends were in the living room being loud and I didn’t want them in the background. All i did was simply do a pre-whistle blow with my mouth as the wind got stronger I tried to bring in more of the whistle itself. It wasn’t really hard, it just took a lot of breath. I had to record it multiple times because I didn’t like the quality and sound that I was hearing. I recorded this assignment using Audacity. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

Imitating Weather

Middle school chorus came in handy for this assignment. Our music teacher used to have us imitate a rain storm using only our hands and feet. I began by rubbing my hands together. This sounds like the wind blowing the rain clouds in. Then there are light drops of rain. For this, I did a “golf clap” by clapping two fingers on my palm. Next came the harder rain, this was the snapping of my fingers followed by patting my knees. For the thunder, I added some foot stomping. I then reversed the order to signify the rain storm ending. The foot stomping ended, followed by the patting. Then the snapping stopped and there was only wind left.

The Sound of my voi… err Rain!

So… this is rain, from my voice. I have to admit, I did this about 7 times before I got it to where I wanted it. I had my fan on in the background and began to make a somewhat watery sound with my mouth (you know how rain sounds). I did not get a good rainfall pitter-patter, so I tried to go for more of a heavy kind of rainfall.

This one was really weird to be quite honest. Making it was easy, but trying to get everything when combined to sound right was not. I tried tapping fingers, moving the fan closer, shaking a water bottle, and a few other things on my keyboard. I figured I should not cheat since I am at my computer, ant this all seemed to come out decently.

Let me know what you think!

So I was challenged by this to make the sounds of a thunder storm with nothing but what I had around my desk. Since playing thrunder store noise from the internet would be cheating, I made my own noises up. I used a few different think to make this thunder. Check it out!

First of, I used garage band application on a mac to make this recording. So does it sound good? I hope it sounds realistic. Here is what I used to make the sounds. First off, the whooshing noise is me blowing air out of my mouth. The Thunder noise is from three different sources. One part is me waving a metal sign around. The thunder is also me setting of very small fire crackers. Finally I kicked my small metal trash can. I think these three things combined make a very good thunder noise.

So what do you guys think about me being the weather?

This assignment was worth 2 stars.

How’s the weather Ollie

Hope you got the Family Guy reference in the title.  I made this recording in Audacity by tapping my keyboard.  Here is a link to the assignment.

Difficulty: 2 stars

I can make noises, too!

We had to complete five stars worth of assignments from the audio assignment bank this week.  The first one I chose, a one-star assignment, was to make weather noises with my mouth and objects around me.

I did these after completing the bumper and the commercial, so I was pretty familiar with finding audio clips to use.  It honestly took me a really long time to figure out how to make any noises at all for weather with my own mouth.  I was determined to make rain and thunder work, but I couldn’t pull it off no matter how I tried. It just sounded like clicking and thumping.

I decided to do a search on YouTube of some basic weather sounds and see if any of them sounded doable.  I settled on wind.  There is an added echo or something about half way through that makes it sound a bit more realistic, but I have absolutely no clue how I made that happen.

Audio Assignment – Imitate Weather

I imitated the raining sound using the shower faucet to make it sound like rain.
