Yeah, I Can Rap

The first audio assignment I chose for the week is DS106 Rap (worth 2 stars).  This will contribute 2 of the 5 stars that I have to dedicate towards my character this week!  I chose this one because it sounded fun and I like to rap so I thought I’d give it a shot! First I got the background music from Youtube, converted that into an mp3 file and imported it to Audacity.  Then I began to write lyrics that I thought would go along well with the music and my character so that was pretty hard.  Then after I wrote them down I had to practice multiple times so I knew I wouldn’t mess up while I was recording.  After I had practiced long enough, I plugged my headphones in and began rapping along with the music in my ear.  I got through it and then when I went to play it back, my voice was not in sync with the music so I had to play around with it to get it to sound right…which I think it still sounds like there is a little bit of a lag but that’s okay it goes with the music well enough!  I chose this one as one for my character because I felt like rapping is usually about either killing people, beating women, or stuff of that sort so my character fell right in place!  Writing the rap was pretty fun even though I had to use a website to figure out multiple words that rhymed with one to get it to work!  I think I’m the next female Eminem.

Stefanie’s DS106 Rap

One of this weeks assignments is creating a radio bumper for ds106, but I already did one in spring ’13.
This way I rather have chosen something similar to this from the assignment bank, which is to produce your very own Rap.

I had to go to Soundation to come up with a beat. Here you can find various building blocks for creating a suitable beat. I did this very intuitively by choosing a block by name, listening to it and deciding if I may use it or not.

I do not know much about Rap, but I know there is a beat and words, which are spoken appropriate to the beat. So I tried and felt awkwardly first, but then found my way with some words. Hear yourself!

The recording of my words I managed with Audacity. While listening to the beat via my head phones I have spoken the words into the microphone. After this I listened to the combination and giving it some tries I finally was content.
I would have liked to give my voice more volume, but did not manage in my small room and sitting in front of a computer, the atmosphere was not like being able to feel free enough for a more impressive voice. Still, I like my DS106 Rap.

ds 106 rap

This song is called Jumpman and features a friend of mine on the track!!! I used a sample from nicki Minaj song stupid hoe and used it as my hook and the beat is actually wale’s beat to slight work. It was done by garage band, it was fairly very easy since i actual do this all the time im a Rap artist lol!!! hope you guys enjoy!!! Jumpman

Audio Project #2 Otis Remix

Here is a remix that I have done to a song called Otis by my favorite rapper Jay-Z and his partner in crime Kanye West. This song features a sample from the song Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding, hence the title of the track!  I had an amazing time with this project from “trying,” to create my own lyrics to getting the music and trying to have it exactly how I wanted it!

This project definitely helped me to learn a ton of new things and I really enjoyed broadening my horizons!

DS106 Rap

Write and perform your very own rap. Create your own beat box or experiment with audacity’s audio settings. Remember to think: What Would Dirt Mcgirt Do?

Rap Battle

(Skip to minute 4:00 for the best example that smart kids are cool too.)

For those of you lucky enough to be in DuPont this evening you will have the chance to hear me rap too.

A key part of the A-MC-X radio show or any radio show are their commercials like the Super Bow(els). To keep things fresh on A-MC-X we are honoring our Alan Levine with a rap promoting his work and DS106.

First, we needed to find words that rhymed with Levine (at least he is not named orange). Here is our first list:

green
lean
mean
bean
cuisine
automatic teller machine

This proved two things: 1) I am not Dirt Mcgirt 2) The online rhyming dictionary is a blessing. Though, I did try to find a way to include automatic teller machine in our rap.

Here is a small preview:

Mr. Alan Levine the DS machine,

He is steppin’ out into da scene,

Later tonight we will be pairing my rap with the glorious Annie Belle’s beat boxing. It’s only day three but already we have a commercial. Slowly, Slowly, A-MC-X is weaving together an awesome radio show!

UPDATE:

I present to you the final cut of a rap battle beat down.
