World War Z Remixed Ending

The ending to the movie World War Z is much different than that of the book, but it lent itself into remixing quite well.

I went through a good number of scenes online to see which I wanted to remix, and the ending was the one with the most normal talking/sound effects and least zombie noises (which are usually great but not fitting for this assignment. Though, now that I think of it, I could have remixed ONLY zombie noises. Very tempting…)

I did the Context assignment, though I am not sure how much I changed the meaning exactly. The most troublesome part was working around the background music that was already in the movie’s audio. Besides that, slicing and merging and layering the audio was really fun. I was excited to get back in to using Audacity, and I still am, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if I did another audio assignment for this week.

I see the final product as possibly being a dramatic story of an unspecified introvert who wants to just disappear (in all forms).

What if

This is an audio file called “What If” the audio was substrated from different video files. the reason why I chose this type of project is because I wanted to see the difference between, watch a video and listen to the audio only. in the pass i edited a video using the same footage and placing different voice over different people. it was cool to see the a girls face over a man voice. so now is was just listening to the voice and imagine the person behind that voice.

Rescue

After Julie has decided to join a group of people, who oppose the government of Thasis,  there are tasks for her. A group of dancers are accused to have despised the warnings of the authorities to stop their futile doing as dancers but rather offer their services to the good of Thasis, which was working in a weapon factory.
They have locked up the dancers as if they are dangerous criminals. Julie is part of the group which is assigned for rescuing the dancers from a well watched prison. Part of the action has been recorded and you can listen to it here.

I did not choose an entire film like proposed in the assignment “Context”, but just a trailer of the movie “LockOut”  and a short clip of the film. I imagined a rescue a chaotic event and this way you may not be able to find a certain plot in the audio but rather an atmosphere, which is intended.
I opened the two video clips in my movie editor and took the parts I needed. The result I saved as an mp3 file and uploaded this to Soundcloud to  be able to embed it here.

Remixed Context

I was actually doing the 7 Comment Challenge when I came across a post on the blog Corgis and Cups of Coffee. She did a remix of Mean Girls and I thought it was really cool. I decided to try and make a remix of my favorite movie, Finding Neemo. The assignment is called Context. You take context from a movie and give it your own spin.

I first found a clip of my favorite scene (just keep swimming) and converted it using an online converter. I uploaded it to audacity and decided it wasn’t enough. I then thought of using music from The Little Mermaid. I downloaded the instrumental of Under the Sea and put it behind the clip. I figured they both had a theme of “under the sea”. Turns out they both kind of had the same rhythm too. I sped up the clip from the movie and changed the pitch of Dory’s voice. I then played around with many of the tools trying to get the right effect. I found the echo tool and decided it would be cool to echo Dory’s voice in the end because that’s where she starts descending in the dark. It was actually really fun to play around with since I was working with material I really enjoy. I am also slowly starting to learn more about the tools in Audacity.

Irregardless!

This, as a feminist, as always been my favoite Mean Girls quote. The original clip is humorous, but with the dubstep behind it, it cracks me up.

Anywho, for the Context assignmnet, I choose this quote, then I downloaded it using “the Fastest Youtube Downloader.” Then I opened it in Audacity and played around with it, making Gretchen stutter on the “irregardless” and “off limits to friends”. Then I used the “auto duck” tool on their shocked noises after Cady annouces it was Aaron Samuels. I had a lot of fun with this assignment, actually.

Not only is Mean Girls the most quotable movie ever, but it also happens to work with almost every ds106 assignment.

Audio Assignments 6 Context Worth 3 Stars

Take the audio from one movie, the ambient sounds, a few words, etc. Remix it into something entirely new.

I took the famous rhyme from the nightmare on elm street movies and remixed it with the audio sounds of the Child’s play 2 movie. Its like a face off between Freddy Krueger And Chucky. The combination of the two killers go together, Freddy is a child murderer and chucky is a child sized killer doll who is trying to transfer his soul into a child. If they ever made a movie featuring Freddy vs. Chucky they should name it A Child’s Playful Nightmare on Elm Street.

Sounds from Arkham Asylum–”Oooh, a Gas Mask!”

This took more time than I thought it would.

First, I downloaded the episode from YouTube, then I ripped the audio using RealPlayer. The idea was to go through the audio and just pull out the Scarecrow’s lines, but thirty minutes is a lot of time to spend just hunting through audio.

What I wound up doing, was opening up the video and fast forwarding through it, and marking down the times when ole hayface shows up. Then I went through the audio and split the audio at those place. Once I’d put the splits in, then I just deleted the non-essential audio.

Finally, I just kind of went through and tried to put together some kind of crazy-sounding monologue that made some kind of sense. I’m glad Dr. Long pops up a few times, that way it gives a little bit of continuity (and keeps it from being totally boring, hopefully).

Anyway, it was fun. I’m kind of stuck on the Scarecrow for some reason. Paging Dr. Freud?

Sounds Like Summer

For my segment I did the assignment Context.

What I did was locate sounds from the movie Jaws, abstract them, manipulate them, and then construct them into a song. To do this I used GarageBand, which comes free with Macs. I spent about a day finding sounds. I ended up not using the vast majority of them. I then spent another day and a half remixing the sounds.

The project was fun to do yet also frustrating in some ways. I started over a few times, and as the final song became more developed my computer began to lag. That made working in GarageBand pretty annoying and limited what I could do. Still I think the track turned out well, though if I had more time I would have refined it some more.

The song has 5 distinct parts. All sounds come from the movie Jaws. Here it is:
