Audio Assignments- Audio Dream Stories- 2 stars

This is a variation off of AudioAssignments70: Sound Effects Story, except the main goal of this assignment is to create a story using only sounds (no words) found on the Internet that tells the story of a dream using audio. Restrictions: use only sounds from freesound.org and a max of 2 minutes. Please remember to credit those who you have sampled. Also, please refrain from having 6+ “layers” in a dream. We all know from watching Inception that by that time, you’re way beyond the normal dreaming mind constructs and into the subconscious.

For this Assignment, I decided to go with a dream someone might have if they left the radio or television on while they went to sleep. Don’t worry, you can’t hear any words, just static. Also, you can hear rain in the background. The audio dream could be interpreted as someone dreaming that they are in Zombie Apocalypse faintly hearing the reports of a zombie outbreak. To make this audio dream, I used sound clips from the website freesound.org. More specifically, I used these files ohrpilot__static-noise-several-different-ones.aiff
rutgermuller__radio-noise.wav
loopbasedmusic__rain-medium-thunders.aiff.

Once I got the sound bites that I wanted to use. I imported them to Audacity and cut them into smaller fragments.  Then I placed them together.

Audio Dream Stories

I was responsible for the audio drama in my group’s radio show so why not apply it to the required audio assignments for the week. Unfortunately the assignment criteria is a max of two minutes so ya’ll (you pick up this word if you have lived in Virginia long enough) will have to tune into our radio show by the end of today’s week to hear the full version.

I have credit to give to user klankbeeld, with this creation of “horror ambiance 07″

also, computerial for creating and uploading, “Dream Intro”

and last but not least, dr.eel for “door_squeak_20_02_11_19_1″. Also all soundclips came from freesound.org

Audio Dream Story

Hey I did another one. This assignment is called Audio Dream Stories. I think I did a good job on this one because I was in the computer lab and I took the sounds off the computer. I plugged in my headphones and I put my headphone next to my IPad so I didnt make any noise that would bother other people. I took the running part, the dinosaur, screaming, and getting up from the bed off of Freesound.org. I took the first gasp before I get off the bed from Youtube and the last part where the breathing is from Soundboard.com called Breathing Sound 2. This assignment was hard to do. All I had to do was record all the sound on Recorder Plus on my IPad because I couldnt download Audacity in the Computer Lab of the school. I cut out all the parts where I was changing pages for the sounds. And that how I got this.

When I was a kid, I always had a nightmare of being chased by a dinosaur and getting eaten by one. So I said let me do that one because I couldnt remember any other one.

I hope u enjoy. Tell me what you think.

(I also learned that everytime I plug in SoundCloud into my blog, I have to click on the pencil tool on soundcloud and change the setting to HTML5 for the player to show up on my blog. It is automatically standard. I dont understand why it does that. Well I hope this helps.)

This makes 6 out of 10.

  Nightmare by melindakumi

My dream:  I have this recurring dream that stems from childhood fears.  This dream is always the end of a sequence (because I wake up during this dream and not parts before it) and the events that lead up to it is always different.  I am running up the side of my grandparents’ home to the garage door and it is locked but I know that there is a fire right inside of it.  I knock and try to shout but there are no voices from the ones inside or me on the outside.  Eventually the fire crumbles the front “facade” and I run out of the garage basically into my own garage at home, confused.  At home I am fleeing from the police (I know them by their uniforms because the siren never matches) and running circles around my house hoping that the orange/tangerine tree will fall on them as I pass it over and over and over and over again.  It is usually this time I wake up.  I am even more alarmed to find myself a young adult again and not a child.

The clips were from d20w, martian, payattention, cksned, and ifartinurgeneraldirection. All the sources are linked to the exact sounds that they were ordered in.

Audio Assignment 5

My last audio assignment was worth 3 stars, bringing my weekly total to 12 stars! woohoo!

I used these sounds: door opening, creaking steps, heavy breathing, gunshot, and a scream. I got all of these sounds off of freesound.org. I watch so many scary crime shows (like NCIS, Criminal Minds, Law and Order) so I always have scary dreams.

Here’s the audio:

I actually have had nightmares very similar to this, the ones where you wake up and your heart is about to beat out of your chest. It’s pretty bad that I watch the shows before bed too, so that doesn’t help me all that much. I edited the sounds together in audacity and then exported it as an mp3. I also deleted the door closing part of the file from freesound instead of using it. I love how easy audacity is becoming!

3 Stars: Audio Dream Stories

Hi all! Sorry that it’s been a few weeks since my last update.  I’m lazy.  Anyways, for this assignment, I chose to do the “Audio Dream Stories” assignment that was very similar to the sound effects story that I did earlier in the year.  Basically, we had to use freesounds.org to tell a story with just sounds, but this time the story had to be a dream.  I chose a nightmare!

This is a nightmare that I used to have quite frequently.  There was a period in my life where every single dream I had that I could remember involved zombies, and it always ended with my left kidney being eaten and me jerking awake like it was actually happening.  Why the left kidney? Who knows.

I started out by designing what I wanted to have happen in the story.  In this story, a man would be running from a horde of zombies and would eventually fall down and be devoured post-haste.  So I searched the various terms on freesound.org and pulled out each of these wonderful sounds.  I even included a Wilhelm scream for shits and giggles because I love hearing it.  Finally, I included the gasping sound to indicate that the man had woken up.  From there, I rearranged all of the tracks in audacity and decreased the decibel level on the running and zombie tracks and increased the level on the falling track.  Then I exported it and uploaded it to soundcloud.

3/10 Stars for weeks 7 & 8 done.  And now: for a little teaser for something I plan to upload on Sunday (if I can get over a certain designer’s block).

Coming Soon!

Nightmare Sounds!

For this assignment, I used various sound effects from Sound Cloud to create the sounds within a dream. Obviously, once you hear it, it’s apparent that it’s a nightmare. Throughout the piece, I had a storm playing in the background, and over that I inserted various noises with a little echo effects to create a horror environment.
