Donut Cheerios!

For this assignment, I had to recreate a cereal box in some way. I decided to make donut cheerios…which would be delicious. I used a picture of doughnuts that I found on Google and a cheerio box as well. I decided to keep the design fairly simple and my photo shopping skills obviously need some work, but overall I think it turned out fairly well. I had to find a font as similar to the cheerios font as I could and I think it works pretty well even though it’s not quite the same.

Heroes Cereal Box

Heroes Cereal Box

This assignment was my favorite that I’ve done for Digital Storytelling this semester. Also, the assignment turned out to be a lot of stars at 4.5 stars. The assignment was to create your own cereal box cover using a mascot. So once again I immediately went to my Sketchbook app to start creating a cereal box cover.

I wanted to make a cereal box cover that was dedicated to the men and women that serve our country in the military. The best way that I thought of to dedicate a cereal box to them was to put the American Flag as the background of the cover. Then I tried to think of a mascot, which was a little more tricky. I searched google for cartoon soldiers, but every single one of them had a gun in their hands. Having a gun on a cereal box would not be a good idea, because people might think you are promoting guns. So my search went on until I found this awesome mascot, which I named Tank. After I put the mascot into the design, I easily came up with a name for my cereal. I figured that since this was dedicated to the military that it should be named after their proper names of “Heroes”.

To conclude, this would be an awesome cereal box that my parents would have been proud to pickup for me when I was a kid. But I probably would get this cereal now if I could just because of the cover.

Muscle Flakes

For my last assignment to round off 10 starts is to design a cereal box. I had a lot of fun making up my own cereal and creating a box. In real life it would obviously be a sleek matte black box with nutrition on the sides and fun games on the back or small bios about athletes who eat the cereal. The one I created is just solid black with no sides or back to it. I made my cereal muscle flakes and have Arnold Schwarzenegger posing on it. He is the one who endorses the cereal and other athletes eat it as well. I probably could have gone crazier with this but I really liked the idea of a black box for cereal. You don’t normally see that in the aisles so I think it would be something different and eye catching in a different way. My design is below!

This assignment was worth 4.5 stars.

Western Wheats

This assignment was on of the most intricate pieces of work I have constructed thus far. It took a lot of trial and error to get the cereal box cover I was happy with.

I used a website called sketchpad to construct my cereal box. It is like an online drawing canvas. I drew out the lines of the rectangle box, and then I painted in the yellow for the color of the box. After that, I inserted my mascot and a picture of the wheat cereal. I wanted it to look like the cowboy was lassoing in the bowl of cereal.

I wanted to incorporate our theme of western into the assignment, that’s why I made the mascot a cowboy. I also am a big fan of alliteration so Western Wheats came to my head pretty quickly, given that Frosted Mini Wheats are my favorite cereal. I wanted it to be healthy so I added the cliché facts about calories per serving and the amount of minerals and vitamins in it. The website I used allows you to insert different textboxes and fonts, which made it convenient to put different types of information on the box.

I was pleased with the outcome of it. I think the cowboy mascot makes it memorable, because there’s nothing like that on the shelves. It’s the Best in the West! Lol!

My Cereal Box Cover!

I chose to complete this design assignment because when I was smaller I really liked to eat cereal and the way the box appeared did have a big impact on me. For example, if the box was brightly colored or displayed cartoon type characters I had seemed to be drawn to them rather than the more bland colored boxes.

I used this site to create a cereal box cover that I would most likely buy and would hopefully appeal to others. First, I chose the background color for the box to be a yellow/gold color. Then I thought of the name for my cereal, “Frosted Golden Stars”. I have always like cereal that is frosted (generally in sugar). I also have liked the saying “shoot for the stars” meaning go for your dreams and don’t let anything hold you back. To tie in the color of the box and the usual color of stars, I used the word golden. I then added in other information like a key slogan of “They’ll make you shine bright” because every good cereal has an appealing motto and of course, nutrition is important too. So, I added “The new health cereal, provides daily vitamins and fiber.” Lastly, I added an owl cartoon because as I stated earlier I like cereal boxes that had a cartoon character associated with it. I chose a yellow owl because it fits the brightly colored background and owls are usually known to be pretty smart animals and are nocturnal fitting the theme of the cereal. So, would you buy my Frosted Golden Star cereal?!

This design assignment was worth 4 and a half stars adding to the requirement of completing 10 stars worth of design assignments for this week’s work.

Design your own cereal box

Here is my fourth assignment called design your own cereal box worth 3 stars. This assignment was to create your own cereal box cover, pretty simple.
Murder os

Here are my Steps:

  1. Went to the ds106 page and clicked on the Design Assignments page.
  2.  Went to page two and clicked on the assignment called Design you own cereal box cover.
  3.  I went to paint and created an all red background then saved it.
  4. I opened Photoshop and uploaded the all red background I made.
  5. I found pictures I wanted to use and uploaded them to Photoshop.
  6. I clicked on the letter T on the left side side of Photoshop, which is a tool that lets you write text.
  7. Finished my picture , save it and uploaded it to Flickr.

I chose the title and theme I used because my friend and I had been watching horror movies all night. I also figured this would be a good cereal cover for October as Halloween is coming up. The guy on the front of the cereal box is Ted Bundy , a serial killer who was thankfully caught. I chose him though as a friend said he is very well know for the crimes he committed. My favorite picture on the box cover is the little knife though, he has such a dorky face I think it helps alleviate the the seriousness of the topic. I had fun creating my own cereal box but I never thought this is the kind of cover I would create. Again this reminds me of crafts I used to do when I was really little. Hope you enjoy my cereal box cover!

ds106 – Assignment Bank – July 24, 2015 – Design – Design Your Own Cereal Box Cover

Assignment:  Cereal Boxes are often overlooked when it comes to design. But think about it, they have some of the most iconic and memorable characters all over the world. Make a mock cereal cover with a mascot- it can be anyone or anything. Go crazy in any editor such as GIMP, Pixlr, or Photoshop with the type of cereal you are advertising and the overall theme and effects of your cereal box cover.

fruit and veggie cereal

This is my cereal idea. Veggies can also prove to be tasty in combination with fruit, so why not have a fruit and veggie cereal. The mascot for this cereal is from Disney Jr.’s “The Bite Sized Adventures of Sam Sandwich!”, the character is ‘Salad Lad’. I thought what better mascot for my cereal, than a character made from veggies!

Week 2 – Assign 3 – Cereal Box

Week 2 - Assign 3 - Cereal Box (3) Tag DesignAssignments, DesignAssignments1735

Totally enjoyed this assignment! Love eating cereal, still even as an adult. My favorite characters are peanuts, so I was inspired to use them for this assignment. Again, I created this in publisher, saved it as a jpeg, uploaded it to my flickr, and then embedded it into this blog posting.

Enjoy!
