Cast Away

So this happened to be my third project, and I decided to do the Four Icon visual project. Simple enough, you had to simplify a movie of your choice into four icons/clipart that could define or symbolize in as many choices. I chose to do the famous Tom Hanks movie “Cast Away” where he ends up on shore of an uninhabited island with no way to leave, and spend years there before he reaches home to see life has moved on without him. Honestly the icons weren’t difficult to think of because the movie features very prominent parts and I was able to visualize those to describe the movie in the 4 icons I chose.

Here it is:

Zarar - Four Icon Project

“Do you like…cheese?”

This assignment is the “Four Icon Challenge”. One simply picks a movie and picks only four icons that represent the movie, that are all visual, and no text. This sounds really simple. However, I found it to be somewhat complicated. The execution of this assignment was not my difficult part, but rather the thinking process of it. I could not think of a movie that I could cut into four icons. When I had come up with a movie, I realized I took icons that resembled what I remembered from the movie. However, what I remembered from the movie…was simply only what I, myself remembered. So I then, took a different approach and looked at the movie as a whole. The movie I chose, is one of my all-time favorites! She’s The Man!

Iconic Aquatic

Here is my entry for the Four Icon Challenge, from The Life Aquatic. I got the icons from The  Noun Project and edited them in Photoshop. I tried to follow the example from the DS106 website where the icons have a basic, consistent color scheme. Below is the result. Let me know what you think.

Stardust: 4 Icon Challenge & other #ds106 photos

I ran into some problems in creating my video essay for the movie Stardust since I couldn’t get all the clips I wanted frrom the movie.  :(

As I continue to work on my video essay tonight, I decided to leave you with a 4 icon challenge I created for the movie. This will prepare you for what I will talk about in my video essay which will also briefly cover  the novel written by Neil Gaiman,  which is the basis for the movie. Neil Gaiman is an amazing writer who I am currently studying right now in my Fantasy class at UMW (we read the book Neverwhere and watched part of the series; currently reading Stardust now) and who I studied last semester in my Graphic Novel class (we read one of the books in the epic Sandman series).

Looking forward to finishing up my videoessay!

Also, here’s some photos taken while I and others were  working on the project:

4 Icon Challenge

Tim Owens posted Kyle Tezak’s  challenge “Description: Reduce a movie, story, or event into it’s basic elements, then take those visuals and reduce them further to simple icons.”  Here’s my attempt with my favorite movie…

4 Icon Challenge

So this is my first attempt at one of the Submit an Assignment challenges, and I chose the movie version of the 4 Icon project.  Nacho Libre has been my favorite movie forever, and in my opinion it’s incredibly underrated.  I had a ton of fun doing this, it felt more like goofing off and thinking about movies than actually doing work.  Unfortunately I’m not good enough on a computer so it’s hand-drawn, but I think the point still comes across.  Couple more Submit an Assignments to follow, stay tuned…

designpick II

this was the last movie i saw so…..

I think it turned out pretty good; the butterfly I think could have been a little better.  I had to use MS Paint as I am still in search of an equivalent program for Mac.  I did demo Sketchbook which is nice but still has limitations.   I’m going to try another program this weekend.  The process was pretty simple and the icon images were free-handed which was probably the most difficult part.

Four Icon Challenge!

I admit that I’m a bit late to jump on this bandwagon, but it looked like fun and I wanted to update with SOMETHING. It didn’t take that long, but I wound up asking Mauve and Twitterless Boy for feedback because, naturally, I got stuck on the last one. I knew what I wanted to impart, but I didn’t want it to be too complex or specific.

So here you go: Guess the movie.

I might just do another.

The Four Icon Challenge

I am a big fan of Bollywood movies, so it’s only fitting that I create a Four Icon post for a classic Bollywood film.  I am  betting that no one will get this, only because I don’t know how many DS106-ers actually watch these films.  But give it a try please.  I made my icons in Paint, and it was kind of difficult. I had to scrap my work a few times.–But don’t you just love it! Ok the images are as follows if you can’t tell by the drawing: a picture frame with picture, broken vase, sweet shop (aka dessert store), telephone.

Featured Film:  Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

If anyone needs Bollywood film suggestions let me know–I can help you get hooked!

Four icon challenge 2

After check the old 4 icons challenge, I decide to make a new one with icons drawn by me, using the idea of movie poster.
And yes, the same movie like the movie poster :)
