Connected Clips

For my connected clip I decided to clip every scene in Avatar the last Airbender where Zuko says the word honor. A reacurring theme in the show is the character, Zuko, trying to redeem himself. He says the work honor a lot but not as much as I expected.

How You Doin’?

The task: Take related clips from your favorite show and make a video out of them!

My creation: a compilation of Joey Tribbiani saying “How you doin’?” with the theme song of Friends, I’ll Be There for You by The Rembrandts.

One if my all time favorite TV shows is Friends, so I chose to use the show as the basis for this project. When I started thinking about a way to link clips of the show together, I tried to think of a character that had some sort of a catch phrase – which led me to think of Joey Tribbiani and his use of the phrase “How you doin’?” All of the friends characters crack me up – the show NEVER gets old – and I have my favorite moments for each of the characters. Fun Fact: My all time favorite moment from Friends is when Phoebe explains how Ross and Rachel are lobsters.

And, music doesn’t get any better than Smelly Cat.

Always remember: PIVOT. It’s a moo point. And, they don’t know we know they know we know.

How it was made:

Once I decided to make a compilation of Joey Tribbiani, I searched YouTube for videos of Joey saying the phrase (I used videos of him saying the phrase one time per video, not a completed compilation.

Then I used the save from net site to save the videos to my computer.

Then, I opened iMovie on my computer and imported the downloaded videos my clicking the import button on the top left hand side of the screen.

Once the videos were done loading, they appeared in a box towards the top left of the screen. You can click at the beginning of each video and drag to the end of it in order to select the clip. The video will now have a yellow outline, and a small plus sign will appear in the bottom right corner of the video image.

Click this plus sign in order to add the video clip to your video. Once you add it, it will appear along the bottom of your screen. Continue to highlight and add your desired clips. You can click and drag each clip once it is in the bottom to change the order of the clips. To delete a clip, click on it and press the delete button on your keyboard.

You can use the menu on the bottom left of the screen to add transitions, titles/credits, backgrounds, and music.

Simply choose what you would like to add, and menu will appear towards the top left of your screen. For example, if you select backgrounds, the following menu will appear.

Select the background you would like to use and click and drag it to the appropriate place in your video at the bottom of your screen. Follow this process to add music or transitions to your video.

You may need to adjust the length of your title, credits, or music. In order to change the length, click the right hand edge of the yellow box around the item and and drag it to the left to trim the item, or to the right to extend it.

Once you have made all of your adjustments, you can save your video by choosing share at the top of the screen (two buttons over from import) and them choosing a social media network or file (if you wish to save it to your computer).

Oh Officer Barbrady…

In the TV show South Park there is a bit character called Officer Barbrady. He is officially the police chief in the town of South Park and is known as a bit of a ditz. While he has his moments of triumph he is better known for his stupidity.

In looking at the assignment Connected Clips, I figured this reoccurring gag of Officer Barbrady acting like a fool would fit in well. I found a couple videos on Youtube that lined up pretty well and another which I figured would need a little trimming. I downloaded them using KeepVid and then uploaded them to Windows Movie Maker.

In Windows Movie Maker my task was fairly simple albeit with a few hiccups in the editing. The size for one of the videos was a bit too big so I had to condense it down to 480 by 360. I then split a few extra seconds off where the video did not relate to the segment.

Overall, I think the video fits well and highlights the absurd moments which Officer Barbrady can produce. I would have liked to include more scenes however, I tried multiple ways of downloading videos from Hulu and South Park Studios to no success. I think it would be funnier had there been a little bit more content on Youtube.

Family Guy Connected Clips!

Original Assignment (4.5 Stars)

The next video assignment I decided to work on is the “Connected Clips” one. This initially was tough for me because I had a hard time deciding what show to do that had a good amount of reoccurring themes. Then I realized the show “Family Guy” was the perfect show to use for this assignment.

I chose Family Guy because it is one of my favorite shows and I have been watching it for several years now. For those of you that have seen this show numerous times, I’m sure you guys can come up with several reoccurring themes from each episode such as Cleveland falling out of his house when taking a bath, to Quagmire’s signature “Giggity” phrase. But for this assignment, I decided to use the reoccurring theme of Meg being abused by Peter and other characters throughout the show.

Here are the five clips that I used for this assignment (I didn’t want to embed each one because I didn’t want my blog post to be dominated by these five video clips):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i9p65BvOu4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ_Vn8thIW4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TboCCJntYk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2mZFfFR8Gs

I had to scale down all my videos to a 320 x 240 format because at my first attempt in compiling them, the videos all had separate sizes and had weird things going on in the background. Only then, I was able to compile all my videos in a smooth video.

Now all five of the above clips are relatively short, as they are just certain moments throughout a specific episode, so my final product is going to be relatively short as well. Here is my finished product:

A bunch of baby ducks send them to the moon

When I was looking through assignments last week to be prepared for this week the assignment Connected Clips (4.5 stars) really stood out to me. The goal of the assignment was to connect some clips from your favorite show together where the same topic is being discussed or there is some kind of recurring theme. I did not want to just to a bunch of clips of me recording myself so I decided it would be cool to piece some clips together.

I chose Regular Show because they have a lot of recurring themes on the show and it is one of my favorite shows which some of you might know already from my earlier work in the semester. I was looking up some of the inside jokes and it appeared that a lot of people had already montages of some of the jokes from the show already. I decided to make a montage for the Baby Ducks. They are characters who show up on the show every once in a while but it is usually pretty funny when they come on and they usually end up kicking somebody’s ass which is just awesome.

I had a lot of trouble putting this video together because I used four different videos that I downloaded using savefrom.net. Regular Show- Step off, A bunch of Baby Ducks preview, a bunch of baby ducks, Bird Battle. I had trouble mainly because when I would try to combine the clips on MPEG streamclip the video would end up with a bunch of different sized clips. So what I did was scale all the video down to 480×360.

After I scaled all the video it was as simple as trimming the clips down to the parts I wanted and copying and pasting the clips together. This did require me to keep saving and opening different files over and over but eventually the video was all put together the right size and all. I have to say that I am proud of this work and I am glad I got it done after all the frustration that I suffered through to create it.

The Game

For this assignment, I took related clips from The Wire and put them together. Of course when I thought of something that reoccured in The Wire throughout all season is the game.  So here, I focused on people talking about the game.

Process:

I searched for youtube clips to upload into iMovie

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cryMVK1PwuQ
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwogM2DL99o
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaA0nmn8_fk
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSXm4FUmE5g

I then uploaded them into iMovie and trimmed down the unnecessary parts to the clips. This was so simple and straightforward to do.

Then I added a title slide by clicking the title button down in the left hand corner and added the title slide.
