Convo With My Twin

Original Assignment (5 stars)

Out of all the video assignments, this one in particular was a pain in the ass. It took many attempts to get it somewhat on point (still not satisfied with it). Timing played a huge factor in this assignment, and so was making sure the camera remained in the same position between the two takes. I used the green screen feature in iMovie to complete this assignment.

The video took place in my editing room, and there was no set script, just kind of went with the flow. Editing was pretty time consuming because I wanted to make sure the timing between the two clips sounded like an actual conversation (did not want any long pauses in between). Truthfully, I think this was my weakest video assignment out of them all (I just couldn’t get it to flow how I wanted).

The video itself is very basic, and is just under 30 seconds. I was able to add a fade effect to one clip, but not the other (the one that was green screened), which prevented me from having a smooth ending on the last clip. I hate the way the last clip ends abruptly, so I decided to add text (play and stop) on the first and last clip to make it seem like the video was being controlled by a remote (to kind of play off the sloppy ending).

There seemed to be a line that wouldn’t go away after I cropped the two scenes together. It was annoying because I recorded both of them back to back with the same lighting. That’s when I decided to saturate both clips and play with the exposure to cover up the line the best I could. Lastly, I wanted to spice the video up a bit by adding background music at a low volume. This is where my iTunes library came in handy. After sorting through some instrumentals, it was a simple click and drag right onto my video (super easy).

As I stated earlier, this particular assignment was a bit of a headache, but I know I wasn’t the only one struggling. It really is a cool feature to use for future projects, I just need to work out a few kinks and master it (all in due time). For now, check out this short convo between me and my twin.

Having a conversation with Myself

In this assignment,  we had to produce a video where we were talking to another form of us. We had too dress differently so it like two different people. This was the most frustrating assignment so far this semester. There was nothing easy about this the thought process and the timing of the videos together was very difficult. Then after finally timing up the videos together, it took me forever to find the right software to merge the videos together and make it look like one. After tons of YouTube videos tutorials I saw another classmate use “Camtasia.” I decided to try this software and it was the best thing I could find to help me merge the videos.

After lining up the videos and getting the timing right, I had to figure out how to visual merge them together. I tried to figure it out on my own, which was taking forever and I was getting no where. I finally found a good tutorial online on how to crop the videos together, and I was able to crop it as one.

Final Product:

convo

I decided to have a small conversation with myself about my plans for the rest of my Saturday night. I had the one side of me that is serious and has a lot of work, while talking to the chill side of me and not caring about anything except watching football tonight. To be honest this conversation is a real decision that I am having to make tonight, do I want to take a break from my homework and watch the game or do I keep trucking through and getting my work done.

This was a very frustrating and difficult process and really seemed so simple. Everything about this was challenging from beginning to the end. I really don’t like the visual aspect of it, the cropping part of the video doesn’t really look as good as I wanted it too, but it was the best I could do. I am very happy with the timing of the audio aspect of the video. This was the best I could do, I tried everything to merge it better but this was all I could get.

Have a Conversation With yourself!

Have a conversation with yourself! Film yourself talking, then change clothes, hair styles, etc and then film the other half of the convo. Edit this in any movie editor program (I used Pinnacle movie maker) To overlap the two scenes so that you are talking to yourself! Play around, to figure out the most efficient way! Also, timing is everything in this! Make sure when talking to leave breaks for your other self to respond!

Have fun with this!
