Let It Sing While You Read.

Video Assignment Week 4 – # 2 Lyric Video Snippet

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/lyric-video-snippet/

You can find the lyric cards that I used here: https://www.canva.com/de_norm.

I decided to take Hasley’s Castle (Huntsman Version) and turn it into a music video. Firstly, I needed to acquire the song and converted the lyrical video available online into a mp3 using this website. After that, I reluctantly started up Windows MovieMaker and created my opening slides. It consisted of the assignment name and the name of the singer. After pressing “add music” and adding the music, I went to Canva.

Canva is where I make most of my graphics for most of my work. It is very fun to use, has a large range of graphics to choose from, and comes in many forms. I took to the presentation set up and decided to go with a black background while using clipart for certain words.

I’ve been planning for this for some time, actually, and already envisioned how I wanted the lyrics to go. I didn’t want much going on in the background, so I kept to a black background and white words. I clapped my hands a lot in beat to make sure that the images flowed. My process seems very explanatory in the video, with my reuse of slides in order to have the lyrics go along. It’s cute, I think.

Firstly, I opened up Windows MovieMaker and created the title card, naming both the assignment and song I chose. I made sure that they lasted about eleven seconds while the song began.

Afterwards, I worked on the slides in Canva. I made sure to position them in a way to show off the lyrics. I can’t really explain how I went about it, but it just felt right. Sometimes you just have to go along with that feeling and create around it. That’s kind of how I decided to go.

For most of the pictures, I decided to tell a certain story. A young woman who wants to be a revolution. The kingdom is locked up and the old king is cruel. A woman shouldn’t say this and a woman shouldn’t do that. It’s a tale as old as time. She’s got her pride, she’s got her life, and she’s ready to bloody her pretty mouth, even if the world tries to sew it shut.

A good story, I guess.

She gets the castle and the world receives a new queen.

I then added the credit music, which was Hey, Juliet by LMNT and a video in the background that I sped up to 1.5x. I’ll be using the video with my credits for my second video as well. I cut everything off at 5 minutes.

I then downloaded it as a video by clicking “Save Project As” which allows you to convert the file into a multitude of video viewing options.

After watching the video back several times to make sure the timing was right, I uploaded it to Youtube and embed it here.

I decided against doing a snippet, mainly because I couldn’t decide where to cut it, and since the song repeats, I just reused the same slides. It was a fun video to make, including the credits. The credits I have used before and decided to make it my signature this week. In the last video, I will be making this week, I plan to use that as my credits as well.

I hope you enjoy it.

Lyric Video

Stars: 4

This assignment was probably the most challenging I have done. I did a similar assignment back in high school with power point. This time I used iMovie and it was challenging to line everything up perfectly. I think that if I were to do it over again, I wouldn’t do an acoustic version but instead do the original.

Dancing Queen Lyric Video Snippet

The task: Take a short section of one of your favorite songs, and turn the song into a video using only lyrics.

The Video:

I chose to use the song Dancing Queen for this assignment for a couple of reasons

  1. I LOVE the movie Mamma Mia (and most other musicals…). I know basically every word to every song.
  2. I went to my cousin’s dance recital last night, and one of the songs in the performance was Dancing Queen. In case you were wondering, it has been stuck in my head ever since. (We’re going on 24 hours now.)

Too bad large groups of people don’t appear out of nowhere and burst into song with me when I sing it. Sad face.

How it was made:

I started off by selecting a song. I went with Dancing Queen by ABBA, and I found a YouTube video of the song.

I used a converter to download an mp3 version of the song.

Screen Shot 2016-06-12 at 4.34.58 PM

I copied the YouTube link into the conversion website and then clicked download to save the file to my computer.

I used the Superstring program to create my Lyric video. Once the program is installed on your computer (it is free!), it is pretty easy to use.

Screen Shot 2016-06-12 at 4.32.13 PM

When the program opens the first time, it will take you through a tutorial. Once the tutorial is completed, choose the add to library button in the middle of your screen. When the menu pops up, select choose songs, and select the mp3 file that you just downloaded.

Screen Shot 2016-06-12 at 4.32.20 PM

Once the audio file has uploaded, you will be able to type in your lyrics. Each box will appear individually in the final product, so break them down as you want them to appear. Double click in each box and begin typing. (tip: you can tab from box to box)

Screen Shot 2016-06-12 at 5.07.42 PM

Now, you can click on the top and bottom of the boxes and click and drag them. Dragging will change the size of the box (which is the amount of time the lyrics within will show in the video). The larger the box, the longer the lyrics will show. The times to the left represent the total time the song has been playing to that point.

Now, you can adjust the formatting using the tools to the right. (tip: highlight all of the lyric boxes before making any changes, unless you want each box to be different).

Once you are done with the formatting of the video, you can export the final product by going to Control?Export and saving the file to your computer.

It is all about inspiration

I have chose to answer some of the questions about me in the interview and one question really got me and made me do this assignment. As a kid I have always loved Sade. Sade’s style of music is amazing. The themes she usually uses in her songs is romance. Classic music is her thing and her voice is the inspiration. For my, the deepness and softness in her voice implies what life character she is. Sade is an independent women who is also very sensitive and emotional. When she sings, her songs imply Joy and commitment.  Sade’s voice remains unique for ever and ever to me. This is one of my favorite songs for her and I want to commit this for Sade who I have never seen, but her character definitely  is engaged in my life up to this day.

A Part of the Wish I Have for my Babies

Here is my Lyric Video Snippet assignment worth 3 stars. I used Audio Copy to clip a segment out of one of my favorite songs that always makes me think of my babies and transferred into iMovie. Then I imported the same blank picture several times into iMovie to put the lyrics on to make the slides for the video. Once the song was loaded I adjusted the slides to the flow of the music to complete this assignment and to continue my love affair with iMovie.

A Part of the Wish I Have for My Babies

This is a segment of lyrics of the song “I Wish” by Rascal Flatts. I added lyrics to slides in iMovie and then clipped the segment of the song using Audio Copy and imported into iMovie and then adjusted the slides to the flow of the music.

Lyric Video

For my second video assignment this week I decided to do the lyric video snippet which was worth three stars. This assignment was to “take a short section of one of your favorite songs, and turn the song into a music video using only lyrics. The lyrics video will manipulate the size, color, font, shape, and movement of the lyrics showing on the screen to emphasize a theme, rhythm, pattern, meaning, or musical mechanism of the song.”

Like I promised in my post Movie by Numbers the song 22 by Taylor Swift is back for this assignment too. I love this song and clearly got carried away with using it this week.  To make my lyric pictures for this assignment I simply used PowerPoint.  I had previously downloaded a ton of cool fonts (because when you are in elementary education you always need cool fonts to make worksheets) so I used those for this assignment to really make the words pop out.  I divided up the words into separate sections of how I wanted them to show up and made a separate slide on my PowerPoint for each one. For some of them I had all of the words show up at once:

12

For some I had certain words become highlighted:

16

17

And for others I had words show up one at a time:

8

9

10

11

I wanted to keep a theme between them all so I kept the background the same and kept the color of the font with in one family of blues and just changed it slightly.  After making the slides I took screenshots of each slide and saved them to my computer as picture files.

I then uploaded the pictures to iMovie in the order of the song (weirdly enough I had 22 pictures for the song 22).  I then uploaded the song 22 into iMovie and cut it so that it wold begin and end where I had started my lyrics.

The hardest part for me came next where I had to cut each of the lyric pictures so that they fit the music perfectly.  It was fairly annoying to get it just right (because I was kind of a perfectionists about it) but when I did I was quite happy with how it turned out.

What do you think?

Six stars down and only ten to go!

Lyric video Snippet

  • Lyric video Snippet, in this assignment we were asked choose a small part of our favorite song and turn it into a music video using only the lyrics, and here is the link. I looked at the Katy Perry example given to us to get an idea of how to do this assignment.
  • I chose this assignment because I got to pick my favorite song and make my own video from it. I used the song Call Me Maybe which is a popular song and the background is of a wishing well as she makes a wish and ends up finding a guy by the wishing well.
  • A lot of people enjoy videos with the lyrics added to them, so that it becomes easier to sing along and remember the lyrics.
  • I took an image from Google of a fountain. And uploaded into windows movie maker. I think added the text to go along with the song and to follow where is should go. I recorded the audio from my Itunes playlist into Audacity and uploaded that audio into WMM. Then I felt like playing around with the effects. I used the wave to make the fountain image move around in and out to give it a little bit of a ripple effect as thats what happens in wishing fountains.
  • My suitemates saw this video because they really like this sing, and they loved the ripple effect on the image. They could follow the text to sing along.

T-Swift Lyric Video. What what.

Video Lyric Assignment with a Twistt. I took a short section of my current favorite song, and turned the song into a music video using only lyrics.

Man oh man this video assignment took a lot of work but it was definitely my favorite one of them all. Taylor Swift’s hit single, We are never getting back together, is playing in my car pretty much daily so I thought it was only fair to use her song for my video week.

I choose to do all still pictures for this assignment. I first thought of the idea to use sharpies and hands.. it’s kinda my thing. I then took a series of photos adding words of the lyrics as I went along. This task proved to be very challenging. I used my hands, arms, and paper. I did as many unique things as humanly possible including making the words color, or even writing the words in a circle. The photography part of this assignment was definitely hard but my favorite part.

I then uploaded all the photos to Windows Live Movie Maker. This is where the assignment took a turn for the worst.. I spent nearly an hour making sure the photos of the lyrics lined up with the lyrics of the song. I used the timing on each picture to get it just right.

I really enjoyed making this Lyric Video Snippet and I hope you enjoy it. (:

All I Have To Do Is Dream – Lyric Video

For my lyric video snippet, I decided to go back to the classics and chose to do a snippet from “All I Have To Do Is Dream” by The Everly Brothers. What I basically did was get an HD Cloud looping video from youtube to have a dreamy like theme to suit with the song. Afterwards, I layed the audio track down and applied the text for the lyrics. I added some fade in and fade out effects as well as added a slow zoom in effect to the text – trying to keep it as slow, light, and dreamy as possible.
