A Change of Tone

The Assignment

For Chipmunk Style, I had to take a clip from a movie and make it so the characters had chipmunk voices. To this, I downloaded a video from youtube. I found out how to do this through this article. Using the article, I was guided to download a VLC Player. I used the youtube link from the original source to open the video. The video was saved to my videos. Then I managed to email the clip to myself and even though it was too big, I was able to log into my email on my phone and then download the video from there. I placed the movie into iMovie and used it to speed up the clip as well as cut it down some. Since it was still too big to email back to my computer I uploaded to my website, redownloaded it, deleted it off my website, and finally uploaded it to youtube. There I was told it had copyright, I was fine to use it, but they would place ads on it, so I apologize if you get an ad while watching it. It was a fun assignment to do, except for all the moving the videos around since my computer doesn’t have iMovie and when I tried to use OpenShot, it only had 2X speed, which was too fast.

It was worth 3.5 stars.

Chipmunk Style – The Big Bang Theory

I did the Chipmunk Style 3 1/2 star video assignment on an episode of The Big Bang Theory. It’s season 10, episode 7, “The Veracity Elasticity.” Although mistakingly, I cited it as season 1 instead of 10 prior to exporting the video file. I did this assignment using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) and Adobe Premiere Pro. I simply recorded a YouTube clip from the episode, uploaded the mp4 file to Premier Pro, changed the pitch as an audio effect, and added an opening title sequence graphic. For context on the episode, I suggest looking at the description of this video below:

And this is my version below:

I’m gonna steal it

Today, I decided to turn give everyone yet another reason to laugh at Nicholas Cage by dong the Chipmunk Style assignment.  I took one of the most pivotal scenes in National Treasure, where Benjamin Gates is talking about stealing the Declaration of Independence, and I tweaked it a little by making Ben and Riley sound like chipmunks.  The process was significantly simpler than I thought it would be.

The first thing I did was download the scene from YouTube onto my computer using a free downloading website called SaveFromNet.  I then opened iMovie and imported the clip.  Once the clip was opened in iMovie, I exported the clip as a file and saved only the audio.  I took the audio from the scene and imported it into Audacity.

There, I was able to manipulate the pitch of the audio.  I chose to increase it by about 40%.  The scene’s score is quite loud and there is a good amount of background noise (others talking and walking) which meant that if I went any higher in the pitch, it would have sounded extremely distorted, and not in a fun, chipmunk kind of way.

Changing Pitch

When I was satisfied with how the audio turned out, I exported it as an MP3 and inserted it in my original clip in iMovie.  To ensure there was no overlap, I just turned the volume of the original clip all the way down.  Lastly, I added a title and uploaded the video to my YouTube channel.

I am really happy with the final product.  For some reason, having such a high pitch in the dialogue of the characters makes their mannerisms 10x funnier, especially Nick Cage.

Hope you enjoy!

Chipmunk Style!

For this 3 and a half star assignment, I had to take a clip from a film and either speed it up or change the audio to make the voices a higher pitch. I chose to take a skit from Key and Peele. Substitute Teacher is already a funny skit, when you make the voices a higher pitch, it’s even funnier!

Sped up version of the Key and Peele skit.

This was a very simple thing to create. All I did was download the skit off of YouTube. Then, I uploaded it OpenShot Video Editor. Finally, I increased the speed of the video 2X and bam! You have your final product.

Chipmunk, pronounced (sk-wor-el)

Today I did an assignment, (1246) which required me to take a clip from a favorite movie and turn the actors voices from normal-to chipmunk! While John Wick is my favorite movie, I would never defame it by making him sound like a chipmunk. So I went with the Wedding Crashers movie, and did the best scene of the whole movie which is the mediation scene. I enjoyed this activity and it was very easy to complete using iMovie then just applying the filter. I don’t think I would change anything if I had to do it again. Hope you enjoy watching!

Chipmunk Ben Wyatt and Ron Swanson

I chose to do the Chipmunk Style assignment and it was the best stress reliever I could have had this week.

I didn’t know what show or movie I should have done for this assignment, so I asked my roommate. The first thing she thought of was “anything Ron Swanson and/or Jean-Ralphio”.

So, these majestic videos were born (yes I made multiple, it was just too funny not to). I’m afraid Jean-Ralphio didn’t make it in, but these ended up perfectly nonetheless.

I used this video of every single time Ben looks into the camera on Parks & Rec. I edited it down to what I thought were the best moments, but props to the person who made this video in the first place.

I used Windows Movie Maker, since I only needed to do simple cuts and to speed things up. I didn’t want to get my videos taken down by NBC, so I mixed up the names to trick the system. Let’s hope they stay up.

I made the following two videos of Ron Swanson and his glorious self using the many emotions of Ron Swanson and Ron Swanson’s best moments.

James Bond Chipmunked

For the Chipmunk Style assignment, I decided to make it fit with our theme and to use a scene from Casino Royale. I wanted a scene that was pretty serious, but not violent. This was one of the most tense scenes in the film, where Bond wins a high-stakes poker game by the skin of his teeth. I especially liked seeing Le Chiffe (the villain, played by Mads Mikkelsen), who’s normally pretty menacing, talking like one of the Chipmunks. The music was also kind of a funny addition after raising its pitch, since it also ruins some of the tension. Making this assignment was pretty easy using iMovie. After uploading the clip, there’s a tool under iMovie that lets you change the pitch or effect of a certain video, so all together it took around 30 minutes to come up with the idea and edit the clip to my liking.

Chipmunked Taken

For this assignment, we were supposed to “chipmunk” (from Alvin and the Chipmunks) a video by changing the pitch of the voice to a high pitch. I used iMovie to turn Liam Neeson’s awesome and serious Taken scene into a chipmunk video. iMovie has a convenient way to change the pitch of the audio of a video, so I was able to easily change the pitch of his voice. It also helped that Liam Neeson is the only person in the scene. If I chose a conversation between multiple characters and only wanted to chipmunk one person, it would have been a lot harder, but this scene is already great and was perfect for turning into a chipmunked scene.

Video Assignment – Chipmunk Style

This video assignment asks you to take a scene from a movie and make the characters sound like chipmunks. I went with the ending soliloquy from Blade Runner, a scene that’s very powerful normally, just to see what it was like chipmunkified. I originally wanted to go with the “Do you feel lucky?” speech from Dirty Harry, but there’s a siren in the background of that scene, and it was painful to listen to at a high pitch.

This was very easy to do with Premiere Pro. There’s actually a cartoon mouse setting for the pitch shifter effect, so I just applied that to the scene.

Chipmunk Avengers

Helium may be in short supply, but a little digital tweaking can still leave your favorite actors sounding like the Chipmunks. Take a clip from a film and either speed up the action or raise the pitch on the audio track for some high-pitched laughs.

This assignment interested me because it reminded me of my sister who used to be obsessed with the Alvin and The Chipmunks movies. So when I saw the word “Chipmunk” in the title I immediately thought of my sister and decided to do this assignment.

I decided to go with the movie The Avengers because it was the first one that popped in my head. I then went on YouTube to find my favorite scene from that movie, which was was Iron Man tells the rest of the Avengers that he’s bringing the party to them, as he leads a giant flying creature towards them. When I found the clip. I used ClipGrab to download it.

Then I opened the clip in Windows Movie Maker and realized I can’t change the pitch within Movie Maker. So the next step was to use ClipGrab again, but this time change the format to mp3 to just get the audio from the clip. This way I could open it up in Audacity and change the pitch that way.

Once I successfully changed the pitch, I saved it and used the “Add Music” button on Windows Movie Maker to add the audio to the clip of the film that I first opened up. Then, on the video options, I clicked “Video Volume” and muted the video so the audio I imported from Audacity was the only one that could be heard.
