Over the Garden Wall Trailer

In a strange twist of fate, today marks the 1 year anniversary of the end of Over the Garden Wall! So I suppose it’s fitting that I chose to complete the Complete Package assignment (4.5 stars) by making a trailer for OTGW.

This show, even though it’s only a 10-episode mini-series, is absolutely phenomenal, and I hope that shows through in the trailer. I wanted to tease some things without giving anything away, because there are a lot of twists in every episode that will completely destroy how you perceive everything in the show.

I also purposely neglected including a title and credits sequence, even though I know we’re supposed to include these in these assignments, because of the nature of this assignment and the video in particular. It would just feel strange to have something like that around the video, so I’m taking creative liberties with it. But to be safe, all the clips and music and sounds are from the show, which belongs to Cartoon Network, etc. etc.

Anyway, I know I’ve talked extensively about Over the Garden Wall before in a previous post, and so there isn’t…too much I can say about it at this point that wouldn’t seem redundant or like I obsess over the show (which I do, but that’s beside the point). So I hope you enjoy the trailer, and maybe if you were on the fence about watching it, or have never heard of it before, it’ll make you want to see it.

Process:

This was, so far, the most complex assignment I completed. I wanted to mix up clips, and have some audio extend onto other clips.

So first, I went to Clip Converter, and downloaded various clips in both MP4 and MP3 files. Since it’s such a small series, and Cartoon Network has tons of important clips on their Youtube, it wasn’t too hard finding what clips I wanted to use.

Then it was just a matter of chopping up all the different clips, arranging them in a way that I liked, using the “Fade to Black” visual effect for most of them, and then layering the audio (some voice sections, some music, and then some more chopped-up voice sections) underneath.

It was basically using all the knowledge from before, but in a more complicated way.

The Complete Package: Firefly

For this assignment, we were to make a trailer for a TV show that’s run its course. I chose the tragically short lived sci fi/western Firefly. Apparently you can watch the entire series on YouTube, plus it’s on Netflix. For anyone who hasn’t watched it yet, you’ve got some binge watching to do.

What’s the deal with this trailer then? Well, it’s a product of the evil wizard Nameijustmadeup. You see, Nameijustmadeup mind controlled all of the executives at Fox into cancelling the show early. However, Firefly is so awesome even someone as vile as Nameijustmadeup couldn’t help but be moved by. Thus, he made this trailer, hoping that at least more people would watch the current episodes.

First, I found the music I wanted to use. Then I took clips from the first episode and edited them into the order I wanted.

It was actually a fairly involved process. I spent a lot of time cutting out the right clips and playing with the volume settings. It definitely took a lot longer than I though it would.

TV show trailer -Will & Grace

For this assignment, we had to pick a show that has already ended and make a trailer.  One of my favorite shows – all time is Will & Grace.  This show ran from 1998 to 2006 on NBC.  It’s about the friendship between 4 adults living in New York.  The two main guy characters are gay, one always seemingly drunk women (but my favorite character) and an adventurous red head.  The song that is playing during the video is called “Love Will Keep Us Together” by Captain & Tennille.  I chose this song because I remember an episode where Will and Grace sang it to each other.  I thought it went perfectly with the clips.  I chose the clips that best represented all of the characters.  There were countless others I could have used but these worked the best.

I used iMovie again, this time I knew what to do so it didn’t take as long.  I found all of the clips on YouTube.  I already had the song that I wanted to use in my iTunes.  For some of the clips I took out the dialogue completely and for some of them the song was quieter so you could hear the dialogue.

This goes hand and hand with digital storytelling because I made basically a montage of the show.  You can kind of get a feel of what it is about and understand the hilarity that ensues!

Assignment Prompt

Lost trailer

This is for “The Complete Package” video assignment.  The objective was to make a trailer for a tv show that is already out using shots from the show.  So I decided to make one for my favorite show, Lost.  I thought it would be fun to make a trailer that spanned all six seasons of the show linearly, but as I moved through the first two, I realized wayyy to much stuff happens in Lost to make a short narrative trailer.  So I shifted gears and made it more music heavy, quieting down the sounds and speech from the scenes.  The focus became the survivors landing on this strange island, and slowly discovering its mysterious dangers.  I really like how it came out, but unfortunately the video quality took a hit in exporting the finished product.  I’m not sure why, but I think the codec I used just didn’t like the source files.  Regardless, it came out well and it was a lot of fun to make.

Enjoy

How I Met Your Mother Trailer- Video assignment

This is a 4 star assignment to create a trailer for a Tv show of my choice. I picked How I Met Your Mother. It is by far the most amazing TV show I have watched. I enjoyed making this video and trying to remember funny scenes, look them up, download them and cut parts and past it to create the trailer you will watch. I used I movie to edit, cut and add transitions. It took a long time but it was defiantly worth it. It is amazing how I still find these scenes funny and laugh over and over as I was doing this. Here you go and enjoy! :D

Robin Hood

I use imovie on my mac to make my trailer of the show called robin hood which I had watched on netflix. So here’s my small trailer I made of robin hood.

The Complete Package: Reno 911 Trailer!

My trailer for the The Complete Package video assignment is for the discontinued comedy show Reno 911.  The show is a “mockumentary” style show that follows a fictional police force operating out of Reno, Nevada.  The show is a satire of the police, and is extremely hilarious.  What makes the show so impressive to me is that much of show is unscripted, meaning that the actors improvise many of their lines on the spot.  Sadly, the show was discontinued for one reason or another, so all that is left of the show are highlight videos on Youtube and other websites.  It was from these highlight videos that I created this trailer!

I downloaded 6 separate videos from Youtube using the Savefrom.net, however, to keep the trailer at a reasonable length I only used 4 of the clips.  Links to the full videos that I used are linked in the order that they appear in the description of the my video if you wish to watch the full scenes!  After downloading the clips, I imported them into Movie Maker and began editing.

With the unedited clips imported into Movie Maker, the total length of the trailer was nearly 12 minutes long!

12 minutes was far too long for a trailer, so I had to trim the clips considerably to reach a reasonable length for the trailer.  I also was forced to omit two of the clips that I downloaded, as they would not make sense if they were trimmed so that only part of the scene was shown.  The movie with the final edits looked like this in Movie Maker:

With the trailer complete, I exported my video and uploaded it to Youtube!  Disclaimer: This trailer features some profanity as well as violence, so if either of those things bother you, I suggest not watching!

The Complete Package (True Detective)

Original Assignment (4 stars)

For this assignment, we were asked to pick a TV series that has ended, and make a trailer using clips from various episodes. Many series came to mind, like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and Entourage to name a few. I decided to go with HBO’s original series, True Detective. This was an awesome series, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. It’s been rumored that the mini-series is returning for another season with different characters. Rumor has it that Brad Pitt is supposed to join the cast.

There were so many great scenes to use, but I had to narrow them down accordingly. My trailer ended up being two minutes on the dot. I grabbed some HD video scenes and the HBO intro from Youtube and converted them to MP4 using KeepVid. Next, I knew I wanted to throw in an image representing the series towards the end. Thanks to Google, I found an HD image that worked beautifully.

Now I was ready to begin importing and editing. As I stated earlier, the most difficult part of this assignment was deciding which scenes to use. I did not put the scenes in any type of order because I did not want to spoil it for anyone who may want to consider watching it. Other than that, editing was a breeze (really starting to feel comfortable with it). Transitions (fade to black) were added at the beginning and end for a smooth intro/outro. Some of the clips were louder than others, so I had to tweak them to match the others as best as I could. Lastly, I added a “Credits” screen at the end to make it seem more authentic. Overall, I happy with my work, and can’t wait to tackle the next video assignment.

If you have not had the chance to watch this series, please do so (highly recommended). Enjoy the Trailer!

The Complete Package- Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad was one of the finest series ever to grace our television screens. I could have easily made this trailer a few hours long but I have many other assignments to tackle this week. I used Wondershare to complete this assignment, and used www.savefromnet.com   to download the videos from YouTube. I clicked and dragged the clips to the timeline and edited to the parts I liked the best. I tried to alternate between the “cooking” scenes and the scene with domestic business. It shows that he still has to deal with the wife as well as the drugs.

Below you can see the interface of wondershare.

Jay is in The Wire Trailer

Sophocles once said, “I would prefer even to fail with honor than win by cheating.” I would as well do the same thing. I do my own work clearly and first. I did a video assignment which I thought would be fun and creative to work on of my work.

I used Wondershare and took clips from videos to create my video. It was a lot of editing and changing the audio of the video and music a bit but I like the video so far. It’s great that it made me dance like this:

Anyways I hope you guys enjoy my video! Besides JAY is in this video! :D Here it is! Enjoy!
