This is VideoAssignments2117 it is worth 4 stars. I had to create a video in which my superhero (SuperNova) overcomes a challenge. I was able to use my room mate and my boyfriend to create a video. Erika and I are old friends meeting in a coffee shop when there is an earthquake which turns off the power. Super Nova comes to the rescue.
This is VideoAssignments2148. I had to create a vlog for a day. This was worth 5 stars. I had to talk about my day. I also added in my boyfriend and and friends. This was a fun one to do. I learned a lot about the importance of camera angles and how to talk to a camera which is awkward.
This is VideoAssignments157. In this assignment I had to recreate a horror scene. Of course I recreated the Psycho shower scene. This was my favorite video assignment I created. I used my boyfriend and roommate Erika again. I filmed and directed it. It was 3 and a half stars.
For this assignment bank activity, my roommate helped me reenact the famous bathroom scene from Psycho, however in our kitchen. We had a lot of fun with it, up until the knife accidentally grazed his head and I ended the video. No injury was caused, but I was very much scared. Don’t play with knives, kids.
Well, I was returning home from a long day of work the other day (I was taking care of the dogs I walk during the day), and it was fairly dark out. I’m usually not scared in these instances, but something felt eerie this evening. It seemed to me like someone was following me, so I started to pick up my pace. I put my head down in order to stay calm, but then I saw the shadow of what looked like Bev.
I’ve been fearing this moment, and I know that Bev is not out to get me, but I was so startled I had to run. I’m not sure where she went — or if it even was her — because I sprinted it out of there as fast as I could.
This video assignment was definitely something that I had fun with. I knew that it would be great for my character because fear and suspense is such a major aspect of noir film. I also loved having the chance to work with some urban landscape and unique usage of light and shadows here to throw in as much noir aesthetic as possible.
Additionally, I liked the chance of working from a POV angle for this video. After reading about all the different type of film last week, I was itching to try out some different techniques, and I thought this worked best for a scary/suspenseful scene.
The final thing needed, of course, was suspenseful music. I found a great chase song on youtube, converted it to mp3, and threw it into my iMovie file. I then cut it down and moved it around so that the song’s suspenseful aspects and crescendos matched up well as it could to the actual scene.
For this assignment (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/make-a-scene-from-a-horror-film/) I was to create a horror scene. I made a script in preperation (http://kelliwisbauer.com/assignments/making-a-scene-from-a-horror-film-preperation/). For this, my mom played the “Mom” and I played the child, Kelli. My sister Katie taped this video. It was kind of hard to do, but I think we finally got the hang of it. I had to do a lot of editing, but I did it in Pinnacle a movie making program. I then added the sound effects and the credits. I think it actually turned out not so bad, considering I have never used video editing software before. This is worth 4 stars.
To help me witht the making of this movie later in the week, I need to prepare a little. First I will think about and layout what the video will be. When I was a kid, I always hated going down to the basement at night when everything was so dark, expecially when I would have to go to the laudry room, and attached to that is even my dads workshop! so, needless to say, at night and in the darkness, going downstairs was, and is always very creepy. That is what I am going to make my scene out of. I plan on having help from my mom.
For the script:
Mom: Hey kelli, can you go downstairs and get something from the freezer?
Kelli: Ok, mom I guess I can *starts to walk* *Thunder* *lights flicker, and then go out completely*
Kelli: MOM?!?
Mom: Yes ? the power just went out, this storm out here is getting pretty bad.
Kelli: But mom, Im scared, can you PLEASE go downstairs with me?!
Mom: No, honey, You can do it on your own!
Kelli: ok…. *walks downstairs very slowly, looking around. goes into laundry room*
*banging around in shop*
Kelli: WHAT WAS THAT?! *opens door very slowly* *woman is standing right there waiting, and says “BOO!”*
*runs up stairs but the lady grabs her leg and she falls*
When I was looking through the video assignments I saw this and was hesitant because I do not watch scary movies like at all, but I was reading these out loud in my friends’ room and they were like it would be extremely fun so I decided why not. So I did the make a scene from a horror film. Since I was not sure what horror film to do I asked my friend Ashley what she thought and she said the iconic psycho shower scene for anyone that does not know what this scene is here it is:
I had to look that up as well haha but anyways to start I went to the library and rented a video camera (I did not know they did that). We went in to the shower and made the scene it took a couple of times but we ended up with a beautiful recreation of how the scene would be done in a college shower with friends. My friend did her own shower sounds and I thought they were pretty realistic mainly because she wanted to and I could not say no because she was helping me make the video. On the other hand I took the killing sound from YouTube which was called the Psycho Violin screech. I went into audacity and cut the screech sound to make it longer and put it on repeat. Lastly I made it in black and white so it would be more of what the time era was back in the 1960s. With all that said here it is!!
I was not very happy with the end result of this one. The goal was to recreate a scene from a horror film, so I immediately thought of “The Shining” and hereeee’s johnny and all that jazz. Well I had originally intended on having some friends help me with this, so that we could do it with real people, but apparently my friends don’t like me enough and wouldn’t do it. I tried thinking of other ways to do it from me doing all the parts myself (I tried it, it was terrible), to making like a picture slideshow, but I didn’t like how any of them turned out. Luckily I acquired some legos and I figured that they would make a good idea, as kind of puppets I guess you could say. I filmed it probably 20 times because of a combination of me messing it up and my computer not cooperating. I guess it’s kind of clever to not actually use real people, but I still think it would have turned out better had I done that instead. Just to make it clear, the guy with the axe, hacking away at the wall is Jack, and the girl with the knife jumping around for dear life because she is terrified is Wendy.
The purpose of this assignment was to either create a horror scene or re-create a scene from a horror movie. I wanted to be creative therefore; I considered creating a horror scene of my own. Thus, the first thing I did was writing the script for this assignment. The movie I created was 45 minutes long but I selected 17 scenes from the movie.
The reason I considered this video assignment was that we had Halloween recently; thus, I can use some Halloween costumes to make this video. Secondly, I chose to do this assignment because there were many examples and tutorials available for this assignment.
For this assignment I reviewed some previously done examples; I really liked looking at what people did for this assignment. Seeing their examples was a great help for me; because I got some ideas that helped me in creating mine.
The first example I reviewed was The Closet; I found this example very helpful because there was a great tutorial available for it. Secondly, the process of doing a horror movie was well explained.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t open any other example ‘s video for this assignment; because it showed an error on those blog pages which did not allow me to open the video. Fortunately, the first example I reviewed was very clear that I did not find the need for reviewing any other. but even though I couldn’t open any other example’s video but still I found the explanations of the process very helpful.
I selected my desired scenes, from the movie I created, with the MPEG StreamClip and I put them together. I then downloaded Columbia Pictures logo from YouTube to begin my movie with. Since the title of my movie is The hand thus, I considered a hand‘s wallpaper; to represent the title of my movie. I used Windows live movie maker to put the intro and the title of my movie together. I then used AVS Video Editorfor putting the sound tracks and background music to my movie. For each scary scene I put a horror sound effect such as Aahat, Creepy sound, ripping-paper sound, The grudge-croak-sound and the night sound as a background music; the sound effects were downloaded from free sounds.org .
Here is The hand, enjoy:
The process of creating this movie was a little challenging; because it is important to consider the Light, sound, speed, angles, and camera positions to create a good movie. But it was fun creating because I think this was a great personal success for me. I really enjoyed making this movie and I hope you all enjoyed it- will really appreciate any feedback
For this assignment I had to create a scene or film from a horror film. This assignment took a TON of time. By the time I got to editing, I had over 25 clips. I had a mood in mind that I wanted to create, and shooting for a scary movie… is well difficult. Lighting, sound, speed, and angle are really really crucial- moreso than in other genre’s I believe.
I think this was a great personal success though. I can feel the emotion, and hope you can too!
TUTORIAL:
1. First I shot scenes , usually only a few seconds in length. If you don’t have a light on your camera, use a small lamp to light a room (make sure it’s BEHIND the camera though). You can also light a room down the hall or next door (I did this in the hallway scene at the beginning of the video). Experiment with panting, screaming, and shaking the camera to create moods as desired. I used candles as well in a lot of my scenes.
2. The opening scene, I held the camera myself and lit a candle. I recorded myself panting and shaky, and just walked to the closet slowly.
3. The hallway scene was shot in a dark hall, I had a room down the hall (behind me) lit. And then used the bathroom lights to create a flickering effect by turning them on and off.
4. I simply had someone stand next to the candle out of line of sight, and blow the candle out to imply an erie presence once the closet was open.
5. The scene where the closet monster/ghost walks by, I used my younger sister in a black hoodie. She just walked past the camera creeply.
Now that you’ve shot a few clips, upload them onto your computer. You are now ready to edit them into a scene…
1. I opened Window’s Live Movie maker
2. Went to the upload videos and photos button and uploaded the scenes I wanted. You can move them around to order them as you please. Use the split button under the edit tab across the top to cut scenes up into pieces.
3. After ordering and splitting scenes as desired.. you can use the animations tab to have scenes fade in, or animate in in a certain way. That is how I got some of my scene changes to blot out.
4. Using title and credits buttons under the home tab you can ad whatever titles and credits you please, and customize them in terms of font, color, size, and even how the enter and exit the screen.
5. Finally use the add music button to add sound from a file to the video, at whatever desired location in the video. You can fade the sound in and out (I faded mine out at the end) by going to the music tools options tab. I searched and downloaded my sound clip from freesound.org , and you can edit them using audacity if you choose. I did not edit the sound clip at all for this assignment, I liked it and just simply put it into my video.
This is a screenshot of the home tab… I have the things I wrote in bold circled, it’s very easy to navigate.
Also… don’t forget to have fun, experiment with it, and share!!!
So Me and my friends back home have dabbled in making some short film type things. Being a huge George Romero fan and zombie fan in general, Me and my friends made a first person take on a stand alone zombie infestation that was caught on tape but was never released to the public. Its not the best video ever but has received a decent amount of views on you tube over the years. We have more likes than dislikes which i am proud of as well. Making this was fairly basic using a digital camera and then using basic video editing software that came with the camera I added the text at the beginning and the end which could probably be done with more ease using I movie. I just thought that this was appropriate to share based on the DS106 assignment Horror film.
