Fond Memories

For my second assignment from the assignment bank I chose to do the “Recording a memory” assignment. This is one of my best friends Emily and I asked her about one of her favorite memories. I used my iPhone to take this video and used Airdrop to send it to my computer. From there I uploaded it to Facebook. Emily had a fond memory of a time when she volunteered at a summer camp and jumped into a river at the hours they should have been in a cabin. I loved getting to hear her story and seeing her face light up when she was talking about it. We chose this room to take the video in because it feels homey and has good lighting against the wooden walls.

Happy Memories

For my next assignment this week, I did Recording a Memory. In this assignment, I was tasked with asking my friend or family member one of their favorite memories.

For this assignment, I first had to ask around and see which one of my friend would be willing to help me out. My roommate Julia was very willing and was a great sport about it! It was so much to be able to work on this project together.

I first just told her to think of one of her favorite memories that would be cool to talk about for this class. She had to think about it for a little bit, but finally landed on the time that she went parasailing in upstate New York.

She did a really good job telling this story and gave some detail to which was nice!

I really enjoyed working on this assignment.

A Recorded Memory

For this assignment, I created a video capturing two of my friends retelling a memory that they remembered. My friends were willing to retell their memories for me which made creating the video a lot easier. My first friend tells the story of her and a few others falling down the an icy path and almost falling over a cliff. My other friend Jake retold the story of him chipping a piece of his femur while sitting in a chair when he was younger.

Assignment Bank 2 (Week Eleven):

Recording a Memory

For this assignment, I was instructed to capture on video a friend, family member, or stranger recounting a favorite memory. I decided to capture my boyfriend recounting his favorite memory of us. Below is the finished product and how I created it:

This has been one of my favorite assignments thus far in the class. I began by asking Thomas if he would mind recounting his favorite memory of us for one of my videos. He typically doesn’t question what it’s for anymore ever since he knows I’m constantly doing tasks involving some form of media. But of course, he agreed to do it. I figured it would be easiest if I just set my laptop up for him and left the room so he could record in peace without me laughing and giggling in the background.

  1. After I got his permission, I set up my laptop and left the room to go make some green tea while I waited.
  2. Once I got the clear from him that he was finished, I went back to my room and began the editing process.
  3. I immediately wanted to add one of my favorite songs, “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” by Twenty One Pilots, to the background of the video.
  4. Then I wanted to add more of a personal touch after Thomas’ portion of the video cut off. Thus, I decided to add some of my favorite pictures from our trip to the end of the video. I loved how this video turned out!

Least Favorite Memory

This video is a video of my roommate recalling her least favorite memory while living in our current off campus house. The incident she talks about in the video happened about 2-3 weeks ago. We have always known that our neighbor was a jerk, but never knew he would take something like a friend using 2 feel of his driveway to make a 3 point turn into such a massive deal.

This video was filmed on my phone. I was then able to send it to my desktop where I downloaded it and embedded the video into this blog post. It was actually sort of fun to make this video with my roommate because we talk about this incident all the time and make a lot of jokes about it so we were able to have a good laugh over having to recall this memory.

That Time We Fell Out of a Canoe

That Time We Fell Out of a Canoe. This was a memory from my girlfriend from a little over a year ago. I convinced to go on a canoeing trip with me and promised her that nothing bad would happen. You can probably guess from the title that something bad happened. Here’s the original assignment: Recording A Memory Assignment. It was worth 2 1/2 stars. I chose this assignment because as I was talking to my girlfriend (an ex ds106 student) about the possible assignments I could do, I mentioned this one and it’s description and she told me that she had the perfect story. This story took place over a year ago now but she never lets me forget about it. To her credit, it was very cold.

Lena’s Memory of Scott

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/recording-a-memory/ (Two Stars)

For this assignment I had to take a video of someone recounting a memory. I chose to video Lena Meyers talking about her memory of going to see Scott and meet his family in Scott’s hometown. She met with Scott to follow up with him after the radio show and see his business and what his life was like. She also attended his family barbecue and got to meet the people in his life. This was a good memory for both of them.

Recording Dani’s Memory

So I kind of cheated a bit on this one (so I hope that’s ok!) but I really liked Dani’s memory so I had it sent from 5000 miles away via the interwebs. In fact, I made him re-record it a few times because I had to have him do it the way I wanted [...]

Five Seconds of Fame

Assignment.

This is Meg Roll’s Five Seconds of Fame. Here she demonstrates her “Man Gettin’” Face (aka, the expression she uses to pick up dudes–genius, if you ask me. She took this video, and emailed it to me. I then edited it, and uploaded it to YouTube. Enjoy.

A Not So Fond Memory

Assignment:

Here is a memory from one of my derpalicious friend’s Juliet. She talks about her memories from summer camp. I recorded it on my laptop, and used iMovie to edit it.
