Cooking Children With Spooksy (VideoAssignments212 2 Stars)

So I did a few new things with this video, I used Open Broadcast Software to record an active computer window (free program, easy to use, would highly recommend), and I added a title and did narration in movie maker.  The title was super easy, I’ll probably use that again, unless I decided to create a title plate in paint.NET, but the narration wasn’t so great.  It was difficult to work with the file after the narration had been done.  Every time I wanted to cut a scene, it tried to delete the whole audio track with it.  I eventually realized you have to split the audio track separately in order to delete a scene, which is a bit cumbersome.  Also, the quality is HORRIBLE.  Yes, I’m using the built in mic on my laptop for this assignment, but I’ve used it before in Audacity and it sounded much much better.  There’s a big hissy white noise sound going on in the background, and it picked up a bunch of ambient noise.  I may have to look into recording narration A) with the better microphone, or B) in audacity and importing, which I’m not even sure it possible.  Movie Maker is also starting to feel a bit limiting too.  It’s not as feature rich as I would like it to be, and I felt my cuts could have been more precise than the software allowed me to make.  I guess you can’t complain about a free video editing software though.  As for the content, originally I wanted to find a show with a child cooking and comment over that, but the whole idea seemed a bit too creepy.  I’m not opposed to making people uncomfortable, in fact, I think it’s a great device for story telling, and I enjoy it very much in the media I consume, but I am walking a thin line when it comes to creating content for a class.  While no one has set any specific limits that I’ve seen as to the content I create, it just seems like it would be a bad move to stray too far beyond the boundary of good taste.  Also, I enjoy the fact the Spooksy is very likable, despite his bad habits.  I feel like if I make those habits too real, he’ll lose a bit of the rapport he’s built.  If I’m going to do that, it should be in Spooksy’s final appearance.

A Trip to Fountainhead

I used to work at Fountainhead Regional Park.  Our park was pretty big and we rented boats so that customers could go out on the Occoquan Reservoir.

In this video I try to give an inside view to people who are visiting this park.  I took the video off of youtube using savefrom.net.

I then used Audacity to record my own commentary as I watched the video.  I then added the audio in to my video using Windows Live Movie Maker.

WLMM lets you select the time music or video start.  So I used the default “add title and credits” button.  I think it is just the title button, but it adds credits.

I changed the text by double clicking on the video on the left at the time of the video title.  I used this same process to add the credits.

The audio was already in the video.  I just voiced over my commentary.

Play by Play – Peanut Butter and Jelly

For this assignment, you are supposed to provide play by play commentary on a video. I thought to mix it up a bit and do something a little different, so I found a video on “how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich” since it’s one of my favorite foods ;) and add a different spin on it..see my video below..

I first downloaded the video using “pwnyoutube” then uploaded it directly into Windows Movie Maker. Once I had the video, I recorded my commentary in SoundCloud and uploaded that clip into Movie Maker as well. Finally, I added in a soundtrack to the beginning and end. The song is “Manners” by Klaypex.

Here is the original video..

Play by Play

For this assignment (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignmen…) I took a video from youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRlJ9r…). Using a software that my dad has on his computer (Pinnacle), I edited out the music and audio that was in the video originally. Then, I did a voice play by play that i recorded in Audacity. Then, Using pinnacle again, I put the sound back in, in place of the original audio. I think This actually turned out pretty well, considering I have never done anything like this before! I did a little preparation for this, by picking out the video and writing a script for what I would say during the play by play. This is worth 2 stars.

Play By Play Preperation

Another assignment I am doing this week is http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/play-by-play/

For this assignment I looked online and found a field hockey video of someone scoring a goal in a game. I stumbled upone this YouTube video of a girl scoring a goal in indoor field hockey.

I am just going to write out a little script of this play by play so that I am prepared when actually editing the video.

Script: The white team has a short corner, lets see if they can get a goal off this. She passes to the top, and the girl gets a nice hard push off the ball to the goal… and the keeper saves it. ok, now good steal from the white team and a pass to the top of the circle. She works it around the players, there are some fouls in there, but posession is held. hard pass across the circle, and a shot. GOALLLL

Interactive Spiderwick

When I was at art university and this way watched the world of art for some while, I expolored that artists may call themselves free and liberal, but they are not. I studied the Fine Arts and my professors very much critizised the ideas of their students and by this taught them the rules of the Fine Arts. Nobody did dare to contratict, but I quitted some day, a kind of outnumbered.
One issue was somehow arrogance concerning the content of artwork. If I have a great idea and clearly do artwork like a skilled painting, sulpture or printing, why not having pop culture as content? I ignored the rules by doing 12 big paintings on the Harry Potter movies. I’ve paid dearly for this; no aknowledement at all for this great paintings, except from people who were interested to show them children. I did not mind, just for little children the paintings might be frightening, because my idea was to bring to consciousness what big faces on a wall could cause, namely being overwhelmed or even frightened while being movies.

However. I had to fight this rules again for a ds106 assignment, in which you may comment while playing a game.
The most influential people in my life would not like to hear that I play any game anyway, except maybe together with other people and then a board game. This is OK, but I’m so excited of exploring different media, that base on a story in a book. This case the Spiderwick Books by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi.
This way, apart from commenting, I discuss the claim that the game is completely after the movie. Yet, I have to say that the game has mostly its own elements very different from book and movie. Even more important I find that the game contains ideas of the books, which are clearly not part of the movie.

?

Which I did not forsee was how much editing this will going to be.

I played the game for about 30 minutes and recorded it with a software called bandicam. I thought it might be more lively when I speake and record the comment the same time. Now I had 30 minutes of game play and 30 minutes of comment and I had to make it into a clip not too long. When I cut the material anywhere I had to find a piece which fit to this cut. In the above screenshot you can see what this meant. I’ve worked hours on this.
Apart from the cutting I added illustrations from the books, which I found on the Spiderwick Wiki and I put on scenes form the Spiderwick movie to make my point clear. To find sources for pictures and to scan the movie for appropriate scenes was part of my last week preproduction for this assignment

Another assignment I chose to do is the play-by-play assignment which requires you to do a play-by-play commentary of any video. One video I watched recently that had me laughing was this

To do a voiceover of this video I first downloaded the video using clipconverter.

Next, I used Audacity to record my audio. Here is a screenshot:

Screen Shot 2013-04-11 at 7.38.41 PM

I then imported my video file into iMovie, detached and deleted its original audio, and put in my own audio. I chose not to to an opening title screen and credits screen for this video because I did not think it was necessary for such a short clip, and I wanted the clip to go immediately into the action. Here is my final product.

Lulu on the go!

Play by Play was one of the assignments I chose to do this week.  The purpose was to “take any real life video and give us a play by play commentary on what we see!”

Lulu is a bearded dragon and she loves crickets.  She spends most of her time in her cage, but does enjoy the occasional walk under the sunshine.  I actually think that Lulu is a male lizard, but by the time we found out, I had had her for a year, and we didn’t want her getting confused with the sudden name change.

I had a video of my lizard Lulu that I recorded over the summer.  I took her out on a walk, with her leash of course.  I decided to use this video for this assignment because I kinda just wanted to show her off :) .  The video consists of me narrating what she was experiencing at the moment of her walk!  I thought this would be a good assignment to do because it would be so cool if we could actually hear our animals think and know what is going through their head at when their roaming around outside.

I’m not an expert on iMovie, heck I didn’t even know how to do anything so it took me a while to get started.  It took a lot of messing around with it to start being comfortable around it.  Luckily, when I imported the movie onto there I saw that in the middle of my screen there was a microphone and BOOM! a light went off.  My experiences with audacity really came in handy, and I remember that if I wanted to do a voice over I would probably have to lower the volume on the video, or mute it all together.  Luckily  it was fairly easy muting the sound from the video and recording my voice over it.  The wonderful thing about it was that iMovie is that it allows you to play the video at the exact moment you start recording so it really allows you to be precise on the timing.  One thing I couldn’t manage to fix was how slim the video was.  I wish I could have figured out how to make it wider.  I did some intense research and found that the reason it’s like that is because of the way I filmed the video on my iPhone. Regardless of that little mishap, I am pretty content with the overall product.

I hope you enjoyed my video. :)

Worth 2 stars.

Play by Play

The goal of this assignment was to give a short play by play of an everyday activity.  Well as most of you know by now, I love football and I love the redskins so I knew I wanted to do a play by play of the skins game.  Unfortunately, they were on by last week so I had to wait until this Sunday to do the assignment.  My roommate is a Giants fan so we always mess with eachother during the games, but we killed the Eagles this week so it was a great game to watch.  I often do some joke play by play during games so this was not anything different than usual for me.  I think I’m a regular Al Michaels, what do you think?  Don’t be surprised if you see me in the Super Bowl booth in February. 31-6 baby

Play by Play

So this assignment is to commentate a play by play for a video of something. I used to play alot of the game call of duty and my younger brother and I would record our game play for fun. So i managed to find this footage and decided to run with a play by play for it.  Hope you learn how to be a better gamer. The software used to create this was Sony Vegas. This assignment was 2 stars.
