Can I make this any more obvious?

Okay so I’m taking on the putting disney in focus assignment. I saw somebody else had used a photo from a trip to France and I jumped at the bit to use a picture from my trip to disney world.  So an important symbol from the movie Tangled is the sun which is on the flag on the kingdom. So I snapped this pretty pic of the flags they had out. While some people had things that were’t as direct from disney, I went with straight from disney world.

The Window at Notre Dame

This Visual Assignment was called “Putting Disney Into Focus” while blurring out what is surrounding the object in the photo I took. I chose to take a scene from the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame when Esmeralda is singing “God Help the Outcasts” in the cathedral. I chose this window because the song it is a part of has great animation and lighting and developed Esmeralda as a character we should care about.

Notre Dame Window

When I took a trip around Europe after I graduated from high school, I was able to go to Notre Dame and took this picture. After I downloaded the photo onto my laptop, I edited the photo in Paint and Photoshop by blurring the edges and darkening the background to make the window pop out from the wall. I then uploaded the edited photo to Flickr and embedded it in this post. I also embedded a video of the song from Youtube so it is easier to see the similarities between the photo and the movie.

Princesses and Villains Oh My!

Veronique Absinthe is, as you all know, a writer of trashy novels. But that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have an acute appreciation for other types of books as well… like murder mysteries. She loves looking at the plots and the devises in which the murders are committed… Not saying that she would ever actually commit a murder, but, as pragmatic as Veronique is, a girl needs to know certain things. It’s dangerous out there for a dame! She also has a soft spot for Disney stories. While Veronique may have more in common with Disney Villains like the Evil Queen in Snow White, she likes to think of herself as a bit more innocent. She sees herself more in line with Alice in Wonderland, an innocent girl out in the big, wide, crazy world. Mad hatters around every corner trying to seduce and entice her. But she drinks her potion and gets out of trouble with her wits, and oftentimes, her gun. She wants to fly under the radar. Visit banks in peace. But sometimes, even against her will, she’s spotted by bigger fish.

—*—

This assignment mainly had to do with taking a classic piece of Disney memorabilia and looking at it in a different way. Ok, so, I figured that a tea cup is pretty standard for Alice in Wonderland. But, that’s why I wanted to pair  it with the book picture, and weave some sort of narrative about how Veronique wants to view herself as Alice in the story, but is more akin to an incredibly vain villain who is jealous of that innocence.

So the criteria for this assignment was to take a picture of something Disney related and focus on that particular object then blur the surroundings. I used instagrams blur feature to sort of streamline the process.

The focus is on the Skins this year

Redskins

Hope there to hear back from some fellow #ds106 Redskins fans.  I decided to do my “Putting Disney into Focus” post on the Skins cause I know we all have big expectations for them next season.  I also assumed their have to be a few Disney movies about football… Let me know if you can think of any besides Air Bud: Golden Receiver.

I found an app that helped made this focus assignment particularly easy.

It is a free iPhone app called SynthCam that allows you to select several focus points in a picture and take a short video.  As you select your focus points and begin your video you slowly rotate your phone in circles around the main point.  The longer you record the more blurred your background will come out.  Check out this video if your interested. SynthCam

Enchanted Rose: Beauty and the Beast

This rose is supposed to symbolize the enchanted rose in the Disney movie, ” The Beauty and the Beast.” I took a picture of a large rose I have, changed the color from pink to red and blurred the surrounding areas.
