Journey to Ice and Fire: Iceland

In Iceland, it is all about water, whether it was cold or hot; a rainbow, waterfall, geyser, hot thermal springs, glacier or ocean. The air temperature in August averaged about 62 degrees and we always had some kind of windbreaker and water repellent jacket, and hiking boots. This was one of my most favorite photographic trips and I really enJOYed myself. It was a great chance to be around gentle people who enJOYed life and lived a more essential existence, not so cluttered with noise and nonsense. There were street lights in Reykjavik, but only there. The rest of the island country had roundabouts at their intersections, or simply stop and yield signs. The maximum driving speed was 55 mph (I really had to check myself and relax.) Of the 370,000 people, over 134,000 live in Reykjavik. That leaves a pretty sparse population for the rest of the country which is wonderful. We found everyone kind, warm, inviting and conversational. Bob Ross would have been in his element in Iceland.

For making this VisualAssignments1256, I already had the photos and a Google Docs account and had created slides on Google Docs but had never transferred a slideshow and embedded it in a WordPress blog. So I had to look up online how to do that. The instructions were pretty clear, to go to File, click on “Publish to the Web”, then “Embed” and “Publish” and that will get you the code to copy and embed in WordPress. And it worked! I saved it in my draft blog and did a Preview to see how it looked and I was a happy camper. Not fancy, but got the job done. For the slide show, all I did was insert the images and filled in the background with a solid color as the theme for every slide so there was consistency. I did not do a cover slide because the instructions said to have 9-12 slides and it said nothing about text over the photos. I kept it simple with just photos of my adventure in Iceland.

Journey To Somewhere: Roadtrip Edition

I chose to do this assignment because it allowed me to plan a dream vacation! I put so much time into planning this slideshow for this post, I want to take it!

Destination Honeymoon

Hey guys, Lena here!

I used to dream of vacations, but now that I’m married, I get to plan a Honeymoon!! Somewhere that I’ve always wanted to go is Aruba. My friends have told me that it’s amazing and I NEED to go. In order to convince El Jota that it’s worth it to go there, I put together this short little presentation! Enjoy (:

Journey to Somewhere

Journey to Somewhere – 3.5 Stars

For this assignment, I decided to journey to Berlin, Germany. I did a study abroad session there for two weeks during my sophomore year. It’s an amazing place, if you ever get the chance to visit, you should.

To complete the assignment, I rummaged though a bunch of photos I had and it was a bit difficult to narrow down the selection to just 2 images. I then used Windows Movie Maker to create a slideshow and added some music from a German house band called Seeed.

Let’s Go On A Trip!

Journey to Somewhere 3.5 stars

For this assignment, I decided to journey to St. Thomas. Much of my ds106 profile is centered around my trips to St. Thomas because I’m a frequent visitor. My family owns a timeshare on the island so we spend two weeks of our summers down there. It’s such a beautiful island, if you ever get the chance to visit, you should!

To complete this assignment, I first rummaged through my vacation photos. It was so hard to narrow it down to only 9-12 because there is so much to see! I then used Windows Movie Maker to put the pictures together. Finally, I added some music to set the mood of being on the island!

Journey to Somewhere

For the Journey to Somewhere visual assignment, I decided to get nostalgic, and tell the story of the study abroad trip I took this summer. The assignment said to use Google presentation, but I decided to use Knightlab’s Storymaps. I had used this website for a previous project and it was really fast and easy. The hardest part about it is that to embed it on a wordpress post, you have to have the Knightlab Timeline plugin installed and activated, and set to the right parameters for the map you created. You then post the map through this plug in, otherwise the map will not be embedded right and will only show up as a link.
