Missing Lens

I added my hockey photo to a 1962 photo of a hockey game Blackhawks verses Maple Leafs. During the game a player lost his contact lens and they stopped the game to look for it. I chose this because it is not your typical history picture and I have pictures of me playing hockey. I also wear contacts so I can relate. This is the first time I have ever edited myself into a picture. I did it on my iPhone with a free adobe photoshop app. I think it would be easier to do it on the computer.

All You Need Is Love

For this “Forrest Gump Project” visual assignment, you have to include a picture of yourself in something historic. As I’ve said earlier in my blog talking a little bit about myself, I love music. One of my favorite bands is The Beatles, and I have always said to my friends, “If there was one concert that I would go to if I could go back in time it would 100% be The Beatles.” I look at videos from their concerts and it is crazy how crazy all the fan girls are and just how good they sound. I decided to put myself in the picture that was taken of them when they came over to America for the first time because I would’ve enjoyed to be there so much, especially walking off the plane with them. Obviously had to choose a picture with my cell phone in it because who wouldn’t want to take a picture in that moment to document it!?

Visual Assignment: Selfie with Albert Einstein

Visual Assignment from the DS106 Assignment Bank:
The Forrest Gump Project…or…My Selfie with Albert Einstein

*I am currently working my way through my fourth semester of the Information and Learning Technologiesmaster’s program at University of Colorado, Denver.  This is the first post within a series of Creative Assignments that I’ve been tasked with completing for a course titled Digital Storytelling.

The visual assignment that I chose from the DS106 Assignment Bank is called the Forrest Gump Project:  “Good ole’ Forrest Gump.  He always manages to find himself at the center of history, and using photo editing software, so can you.  Find a historic photograph and place yourself into the scene, just like Forrest Gump.”

I’ve always thought that Albert Einstein must have been quite a character.  He’s definitely on my “People I’d Like to Have lunch With” list!  So here we are…taking a selfie together after we’ve just had lunch.  He cracked me up throughout the entire meal.

Red Reaper at Gettysburg Address

Incorporating some of our host characters into assignments this week lead me to do this assignment.  It is entitled The Forest Gump Project because it must incorporate someone into a picture of a historical moment much like Forest Gump kept ending up at.  I chose to include the Red Reaper at the Gettysburg Address.  A little out of place, don’t you think?  He certainly doesn’t blend in!

Let It Be

Admittely, I’m not a fan of the 1994 movie, Forrest Gump, for too many reasons to list here. One flaw I can list, though, is because the message it tries to convey – life is about the journey, not the destination – has found itself lost in translation over the years; even the original book’s author warned readers, “Don’t never let nobody make a movie of your life’s story,” on the first page of his sequel novel, Gump & Co.

So, my second Visual Assignment for the week just had to be inspired by this piece of historical fiction, as we had to insert ourselves into a historical picture. Since one scene in the movie involves the titular idiot savant, played by Tom Hanks, inspiring John Lennon to write his signature solo song, “Imagine,” during a talk show appearance, I decided to turn the clock back a bit further, and put my face on a color photo of the band that first gave Mr. Lennon the global acclaim he has to this day: the Beatles.

"The Fab Five"

This was as straightforward a task as you can find, as after finding an available picture of John, Paul, George and Ringo on Bing Images, I cropped part of the self-portrait I’ve used since the start of this class onto the photo using Photoshop, uploading the finished product onto Flickr once all was said and done.

When thinking of what to do for this assignment, my first thought was to place myself onto an image of MLK, Jr. Why? When I was little, I was often said to look a lot like him (I never saw the resemblance…). This isn’t my best work, but I think it turned out fairly decent. It’s decent enough to make me laugh, at least.

I spent quite a bit of time trying to find two images that would work well together and, despite my inadequacy with most photo-editing programs, I managed.

Here’s the final product! And, yes, I did try to remove those weird splotches on the side of my face.  Enjoy:
