Make your own meme: 2 Stars

Kicking Thyself- 2 Stars

Caught my buddy Daniel Zimmerman off guard here. His blog is linked here: http://danielzimmerman.net .

I love to joke around with him, known him for a while. Sometimes he takes it better than other times :p. Anyways, I used the site cheezburger.com to make this meme. I took the photo with my iPhone 4s. Figured I would snap a photo and make a funny meme. By the way, he said he would disown me for this one; oh jeez :/

2 Stars- What’s the Meme?

Meme

Yes, internet memes.  The bottom rung of the comedy ladder.  Nevertheless, for 2 stars, I’ll gladly suck it up and make a simple one for you all to see.  This… actually wasn’t that simple.  I had a hard time trying to get the outline around the text in gimp right.  I used this tutorial which taught me how to do it.  Of course, I went through about 3 or 4 different tutorials before I found a decent one.  And still the quality of my image came out kind of poor.  I expect I’ll still get better in the future.

Anyways, here’s the meme.  It’s an older one that never fails to crack me up.  If you’re bored just try saying it out loud.

9/10 Stars down. 1 to go.

Media Mediate Relationships

Classes are done and reports are written so I finally have some time to do some ds106 work. Yeah!

A few weeks ago, we were asked to watch a video of Michael Wesch speaking at UMW Faculty Academy. After some difficulties (see previous post) I was able to see the whole thing. In listening to him I garnered a few ideas that I would like to include in an upcoming workshop that I am planning for teachers.

I had already planned to start the day with participants reflecting on their personal beliefs regarding teaching and learning by determining how much they agree with some educational theorists (or not!) Our IB programme is decidedly constructivist and inquiry-based so I thought that I would define constructivism and then engage the participants in the type of inquiry that I am hoping they will at some point facilitate for their students. Inspired by Lane Clark, at the moment, I am planning to base the remainder of the day’s activities on:

  • exploring resources about inquiry
  • determining what they could do with this information to make a difference for themselves or others
  • determining what they still need to learn/ find out
  • reflecting on the skills they used in the process
  • sharing their ideas with others
  • selecting their communication tool
  • creating their product
  • celebrating their work

As a teacher, teaching in this way is incredibly challenging and I want to acknowledge that with my participants. The rewards are numerous but it is not easy because, according to Michael Wesch:

  • kids don’t believe this is what school should be
  • as a teacher you need to start over every year
  • Tip: “just love your audience and they’ll love you back” – this allows you to  you focus on what they need

I thought that I would illustrate one of the video’s messages using a meme. I know that it’s not funny but the picture seemed appropriate for the text – even though I believe the text can also be purely positive and not necessarily negative.

I created this using quickmeme.com Just click on “make a meme“, select a photo and replace the captions. For those of you making animated gifs, you can also upload those.

Meme Assignment

For this visual project which is called What’s The Meme instructs me to find a previous picture or to create my own and put captions in it to make it funny. I myself love these types of pictures because they either include a funny caption(s) or a funny picture that make the whole Meme funny. Also I really enjoyed doing this type of visual project because it helped me find the Meme creator website I’ve been searching for on the web. This particular picture on the other hand is the most funniest and entertaining that I found on Google today. DS 106 has yet to fail me in entertaining projects to participate in and publish, so even over the summer I’ll continue to use this program.

You Might be a Redneck If..

On my 3rd assignment I chose to make a meme. The object of this assignment was to use an image and turn it into a meme. I chose a picture I took of a trailer that I pass on the way to Jacksonville from Arab. If I had to guess I would say it would be in the town of Snead. I took the picture a couple of months ago and I think this was a perfect occasion to use it. I hope it can give all of you a laugh.

What’s the Meme?

THE STORY:

I have been waiting for awhile to find the right photo to use in this Visual assignment on Ds106 , and I happened to be riding the JR line in Tokyo on my way to CIS, and the train was very crowded, and it really smelled extra bad on this day. Well, the source of this awful smell is right there in this picture. I wasnt even standing directly infront of him before the picture and I could smell his breathe. I ended up getting forced into the spot infront of him because of the train being so crowded. I figured since I had to witness his awful hygiene I was going to get this photo! The train had just stopped at Ueno, and I wanted to take a movie and make fun of this awful smelling guy, but I found an iphone app which would allow me to take silent photos. So I quickly downloaded the app and captured the moment, he was snoring and smelled horrible and right as I captured the photo he opened his mouth to yawn and let me tell you… I almost died of some kind of poisoning…

THE PROCESS:

I used photo shop and just created 3 layers. The first layer was installed to add a backround for the text. I think that the green fade blends well because when I think of stinky gas or something, green comes to my mind and I definately wanted to kind of have a stinky theme. My second layer I dedicated to installing the Text, which states “Brush yo teeth man!!!” (Yo=your) I wrote this particular text because it’s what I wanted to say to him. Finally, my third layer, I decided to add green air brushed streaks as if his chemical/gas breathe was toxic, with little chemical/gas toxin entities also escaping his mouth.

Visual assignment cont.

Here are a few more pictures that i have experimented with by using iphoto on my mac-book. I have inserted text to each picture to display my quirky sense of humor through visual art.

Random Act of Kindness

It’s not everyday that people leave money taped to vending machines, so when i saw this i thought this was not only a generous gesture but a good side that i should give in to my fast food cravings. I added the words “Dollar menu? Here i come,” to show a contradiction. A person left a dollar for someone who wants a snack but i would go the nearest Mcdonald’s to spend my gift.

Swag

While searching through the DS106 visual assignments, I found this one which has become my favorite so far. For this assignment called, “What’s The Meme?” we had to take any picture and caption it with a meme, whether common or uncommon. Or come up with a personalized meme. i found this picture of Will Smith displaying his uncommon sense of style, now- a-day we call that SWAG. So i cleverly added that word across the photo to give it more character.

My Stance Obsession

I absolutely adore this car. Over the past year, I have developed an obsession with cars that sit aggressively low to the ground; otherwise known as “stance”, where the wheels and tires fit snuggly underneath the fender, with decent spacing and slightly negative camber. Call me crazy, but it gives me a feeling of being whole; as if I just finished a delectable meal, and can now sit back and revel over how good it tasted. The car pictured above; a Volkswagen Golf mkii owned by Jamie McToldridge, sports BBS E50 wheels custom built by Rotiform using pre-1978 centres and mounted to motorsport barrels is. This particular automobile is definitely on my list to own at some point in my life; and the combination of wheels, color, and suspension, makes it one of my personal favorites.
