Diglet Ghost

I walked past the painting that sits in the basement like normal, but unlike most days this wasn’t normal. This time when I walked passed the painting it has a small silhouette. From what it looked like to be was a, diglet? Like as in the Pokemon. I was confused and continued to stare at it for a good while. It moved from the center to the bike. Like it was living in a sense. It was the weirdest thing that day. I thought I was just tired then, but the longer I looked it showed that it really was

Remnants of the Past

I was riding through a field when I thought about a year prior when we were warming up at a three-day event. This picture illustrates what it was I saw while at the event. The memories are so fresh in my mind that they start to come into focus.

Haunted Swing Set

This weekend I took a backyard photo safari.  As I assembled the images a story of my past life as a wife and mother of two young daughters revealed itself.  For DS106 Visual Assignment 426, Is that a ….GHOST! I decided to use one of the photos of an abandoned swing set to produce a new image of my daughters haunting their old playground equipment.

Little Halloween Ghosts

This was easy to make now that I have more experience with my photo editing software, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12.  Using an old family photo I had taken proudly showing off their Halloween costumes, I used the magic lasso tool to select what I didn’t want and deleted it from the scene. I copied the ghosts only picture as a new layer into the swing set photo.  I sized the girls appropriately for their ages in relationship to the size of the swing set.  Then reduced the opacity of the little ghosts down to 60%. New picture and assignment complete. 3 Stars for me.

Did you ever asked yourself how ghosts can appear in pictures? I can tell you now.

In Is that a… GHOST?! you can read that you either need to use a long exposure or combine two photos in a photo editing software. I did not need any of this but my camera presents an option where I can use multiple exposure.

First I freed my metronome from its lock and while it tick-tocked I took a photo. I left it like this but put my hand to the left of the metronome, shot, put my hand to the right, shot, and the camera made one photograph out of it.

Ghost Hands & Metronome

For me this performs trying to influence time, not very successful at all. Time goes on and on and on …

Hitchin’ A Ride

I usually don’t stop to pick up hitch hikers…but I didn’t have a choice today. Death was waiting in my car.

This is another ds106 visual assignment Is that a…ghost?! What I find interesting about this photo is that it looks like YOU are the ghost looking at your reflection in the rear view mirror while scaring the crap out of me…(forgive the bad acting. I’m a behind the camera guy). I got the idea from the Twilight Zone episode “The Hitch Hiker”.

The ghost image is from a movie I worked on as a Visual Effects compositor Ghostmaker (2011). Its the reaper that chases the main characters throughout the movie.

Damn Keys….

There you are you sneaky little...

See I knew there was a reason I keep losing them! Ever had one of those days where that what it feels like? Imagine that, just every time I set down my keys…or phone. Yet I seem to have made it this far in life. Exactly how, I have no idea.

Is That A Ghost?

This was originally a picture I took in Upstate New York. I used Photoshop’s new content aware tool to change the opacity of the subject in the center.  (Click the picture to see it larger, the details are great.)

(From Is That A…Ghost? assignment: Take a photo in which there is a ghost like subject by either using a long exposure or 2 different pictures in a photo editing software. 3-stars/10 current: 8)

This was taken at 33mm f/32, ISO-1600, 20 seconds with Sheila during a trying moment of the night where we all started getting a little bored and loopy.  The photo has not been digitally manipulated since.  Long exposures are easy to manipulate late at night under the light of a lamp.  Long exposures are so much fun!  I often shoot with aperture priority in the daytime and the shutter priority at night.

The ghost of ME!

Is that a… GHOST?!” …No its just me! This is visual assignment 426 (3 stars). The instructions were as follows:

“Take a photo in which there is a ghost like subject by either using a long exposure or 2 different pictures in a photo editing software.”

I chose to use two separate photos. And for an even stranger effect, both photos are of myself.

These are the two photos I chose to use:

I used GIMP to edit my photos. I didn’t have to research any to complete this project, I think that means I am getting comfortable using GIMP (or maybe this was just an easy project) :)

This was a somewhat simple project (and lots of fun!) First I added the 2 photos as layers in GIMP. Then I “flipped” the worried faced photo. I made sure that the photo I wanted to turn into a ghost was on the top layer. Then I decreased the opacity of my top photo (the worried face). Next, I moved the photos so I was happy with the angle and my final product!

I know this is a little creepy, but for some reason I really like it! Once I saw the finished product, I thought it looked like my conscious was looking shocked and disapprovingly at the dumb face I was making. I really like how it looks like the ghost is starring right at that weird girl! (oh wait, that’s me)  I originally created this as the funny faced photo being the ghost, but for some reason I just did not like it as much as this version!

I know I’m strange, but I hope you found this somewhat entertaining at least! You can laugh at me, I completely deserve it!  :)
