Optical Illusion

LOOK HERE!!!!

The Washington Monument is being held up by a boy!

I caught your attention, didn’t I?! HAHAHA! Just kidding though! It’s an optical illusion! The dude in the picture is of one of my best friends, Nathan.

We went on a Washington D.C. exploration day back in June of 2018. We took the metro and explored all around the city! We even went to the spy shop and bought trick gum. The kind that shocks you when you try to grab a piece!

After hours of exploring D.C., we finally made it to the Monument! The big pencil itself! And I told Nathan I wanted to get a picture of him holding it up. So he decided to be extra creative and held up the 100,000-ton monument with his feet! And there you have it! An 18-year-old teenager, holding up the mighty Washington Monument with only his legs!!!

Optical Illusion (visual assignment 3)

For this assignment, I wanted to recreate the famous leaning tower of Pisa. You know, when the tourists stick out their arms and pretend to be holding up the tower. I tried it with a Snapple tea bottle and a friend. However, I could not manage to keep the bottle “leaning”, but still managed to make a cool looking optical illusion. It took several tries getting the right distance and placement, but we had fun doing it. Here’s the Kind of Leaning Snapple Bottle. leaning-tower-of-snapple

Me Holding a Calender

Link: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/optical-illusion/

Alright, this one was in a rush, but here is me holding a calender. The lightning unfortunately is not too good (the photo was taken at 9:16pm. I chose the calender because it was one of the more interesting items to do this with in my room.

Pretty much the only things I used were a room light and a small lamp in the corner. My camera ended up switching to Twilight a couple of times before it stopped so that is why the color appears slightly washed out.

I wish I could say there was a ton of thought behind it, but it was just pretty much happened randomly. Wish I had more light, but it was at night time. :(

Let me know what you think!

A Squished Head is not a Happy Head

Optical Illusion

Take a photo that manipulates distance to create an optical illusion. For example, I created an image of me holding the Washington Monument in my hand.

For this assignment i took a secret picture from my desk and was squishing my friends head. There isnt much reason behind it other than to mess with her by taking secret pictures and then posting them on social media sites. Taking secret pictures is an ongoing media war, the most famous secret picture however is getting caught napping. Those can be some embarrassing pictures. Im not speaking from experience or anything. Oh and feel free to ignore my old art work that plagues the walls in the picture.

For this picture i just used my basic webcam in Mac’s photo booth. I adjusted the angle of my camera to include both me and her in the frame, i was able to adjust my hand accordingly and then I just shrunk my fingers down enough to get it to seem as if I was about to squish her head. The actual process of taking the picture and setting it up was quite simple, it was just a matter of my friend not knowing what was going on so that i could actually take the picture. After i took the picture, photo booth automatically saves pictures your desktop, so i just had to find it and upload it to both my flickr and to this post.

Optical Illusion

Optical Illusion

This image was for the optical illusion assignment. I took this picture in front of the side door of Willard Hall with a friend. At first I didnt know what to shrink but then I had a dream last night about me being chased by a giant (and then stepped on…) Morbid inspiration, but hey it worked!

Pisa

I decided to try the Optical Illusion visual assignment this week:

“Take a photo that manipulates distance to create an optical illusion.”

My photo is a picture of me and the leaning tower of Pisa! I choose this assignment because I already had the perfect picture from my trip to Italy last spring. It could tell a story about me saving a precious world monument, but really I think there is no saving this one. I read those big white signs you can see in the background next to the tower, and most of the leaning tower of pisa has already been replaced or reinforced to try to keep it from completely falling over. It seems to me like eventually there will be no saving it, there is only so much reinforcing you can do, so I’m glad I got to see it while it’s still intact.

I made this photo by:

Flying to Europe, taking a train to Pisa, Following the crowd from the train station, standing on a post and having my friend take a picture of me!

Optical Illusion

So I had to actually think about this one for a second. But I decided that I wanted to use my TV and hold it in between my fingers like it was a cell phone. So I was looking through my camera and held it with one hand and then slowly walking backwards while pinching my fingers with the other hand. I kept walking backwards until it looked like I was holding the TV in between my fingers.

Optical [head]llusion

This is an old picture I had that was great for the optical illusion visual assignment. My friend and I were finding ways to make optical illusions one night because we were just bored and thought we’d make funny pictures. I decided that I wanted to cut her head off with some scissors & it really looks like I’m chopping off her head.

I actually used no real photo editing or anything for this photo. I just put the scissors in front of my camera and moved back like 15 feet from here and put the scissors in front of the camera near her head. Shockingly, it came out perfectly and she was clueless to the fact she was about to be headless.

Process: Buy a bottle of green tea, and use a cell phone to  take a photo that manipulates distance to create an optical illusion.

Story: A bottled drink is always not enough for me. I can finish the tiny bottle in a short time.

Optical Illusion

For this blog post I decided to do an optical illusion off of the DS 106 website. As you can see I used my library on campus to create this picture of me holding it from a distance. I love taking pictures like this because it tricks peoples eyes and minds. If you take a quick look at the picture it seems as if I’m holding the building, but in reality I just placed my fingers over it. I really enjoyed taking this photo as well as talking about it during this project/story with all of my other friends in class. I can’t wait to start on the next project that I have coming up next week. When you research and prepare to do a project like this, if you don’t give your all you only won’t have a good picture you wont have a well organized meaning behind it. I’ll be looking forward to continue with these projects on the DS 106 website because they are entertaining and the hard work makes me push myself to do my best on it.
