Assignment

I decided to create a character with the archetype of the Neutral Character which is a character that is Unmotivated and indifferent to the situation, accepting of the negative situation with no desire to get out of it, fine with everyone eventually dying.

Alex Whitmore’s Resume

I decided to created a resume. I had so much fun doing this! My character’s name is Alex Whitmore and she is a teacher. I chose her profession based off my own interest in becoming a teacher. I also think that a teacher will bring a lot to the table during the apocalypse. Alex is smart, kind, and easy going. She is a great problem solver and has amazing communication skills. Who wouldn’t want her on their team!?

Also, besides the qualities listed on her resume, Alex is a badass. She isn’t afraid to take action and be a leader when a situation calls for one. She is brave and courageous and is always looking out for others. Whether it be zombies, aliens, etc…she is ready for whatever is coming her way!

Carson Gordon: Character Resume

I decided to create Carson Gordon an all around bad-ass, not really but he has seen things you couldn’t even imagine.  Being a Veteran of the US Army he was deployed multiple times and has seen things that will keep a person up at night.

Carson Gordon: Character Resume

When trying to figure out my character I wanted someone who was tough  in the face of danger, and had a skill set that matched this toughness.  It took me awhile to try to figure out my characters skill set as I didn’t want my character to be unhelpful in the fight against the Zombies.  Prior to looking at the Spreadsheet of Archetypes I start creating my characters traits and then looked for the character from the spreadsheet that was closest to these traits. Carson Gordon’s character is close to that of the Veteran in that he his well versed in his experiences, successful, mild tempered when not dealing with zombies.

I decided to create Carson Gordon an all around bad-ass, not really but he has seen things you couldn’t even imagine.  Being a Veteran of the US Army he was deployed multiple times and has seen things that will keep a person up at night.  In regards to the zombies, he laughs (hahahahaha) in the face of these sole suckers.  He is not only proficient in weaponry but can save a life or two in the heat of the moment.   He is a danger seeker which may put himself or others in immediate danger unsuspectingly, this may be a trait that leads to his demise.  After his stint in the military he became a freelance contractor, building multiple structures with his small crew.

After reading Elaina Finklestein website about her character I decided to use Canva as well to create this resume, I couldn’t figure out how to save the picture without them trying to make me pay for it so I screenshot it with Skitch, shout out to Professor Burtis for turning me on to this application.

Winston Henerly: Character Resume

I thought long and hard about who I wanted my overall character to be for this class. I wanted her to be someone who is laid back, but on a mission to stay alive. I wanted to have someone that was outside my comfort zone, but who was artsy fartsy just like me. Regarding the Archetype spreadsheet. Winston is one of those characters who ISN’T the hero, but is kind of like the sidekick to whoever is in charge. I consider her the Ron Weasley of the group- important, brings jokes and releases tension when shit is going down, but overall is just a sidekick.

I decided to create Winston Henerly- an aspiring actress from NYC who is living in L.A. I thought having a character who was a former actress could bring something new and cool to the vibe of the tribe. I also thought that it was push my creativity and make me work hard to learn more about her and to create her overall persona. For my resume, I used Canva, literally my favorite graphic design site, but I focused more on the research of who she was BEFORE the apocalypse rather that what her resume would be during the apocalypse. this is her resume as an aspiring Emma Stone wannabe in California:

Pikachu Ketchum

I had a blast creating Pikachu’s résumé especially because I literally grew up with Pokémon and Pikachu was my favorite. At first, I did not know what to write because I never thought about Pikachu having a job. Because Pokémons are similar to pets, we don’t usually think of them as having any jobs other than just living. I then started to write the ones I can think of relatively easier such as skills and accolades. As I researched for Pikachu’s timeline, I realized that Pikachu has been with Ash forever. This meant that Pikachu held a duty to be a leader amongst rest of Ash’s Pokémons. Thinking like that got me going and I eventually ended up having a blast completing Pikachu’s résumé! I was so happy to revisit my childhood. =)

Agent Resume

For some of my stars this week I decided to do that Character Resume (3 1/2 stars) and create a resume for my secret agent.

I created the resume in google docs but uploaded it as a PDF. I also decided that I would host the final product as it’s own page on my site to give it an extra effect. I started off with following some of the basic resume looks that I have seen before. I decided to do a split column format initially but then play around with it to create a center area for a profile with information in two columns below. I tried to think of jobs my agent could have had pre-C.I.A. and went with a series of part time jobs and internships. (I found it hard to try and think of what kinds of early jobs my character might have had since I never had thought about it before.) While I was filing out the resume I felt it was lacking a personal element so I decided to add my agents “picture” to the resume. I drew an outlined silhouette using GIMP and fixed it up to add it into the resume.

I used my actual ds106 site as her website and made up a fake email in her contacts section. I tried to keep the resume pretty minimalist, since that fits my character’s personality. I had a hard time deciding what name to use originally I had it as a resume for Agent Fawn however when I looked through the resume I realized that would reveal her regular self to the world. So I decided to use her real name and allude to her secret agent name with the email address and nods to other DS106 work I have done in character. One of those points was that I included the group radio show Agents on Air that our characters took part in. It also helped to give the resume a bit of a fun touch.
