Influential Leader of the 80’s: Princess Diana

2 Stars

Diana Francis Spencer, Princess of Wales has always interested me as a historical figure. She is probably one of the most beloved members of the Royal Family, even after her death in 1997. She was the first person to make the Royal Family personable and accessible. Even though she was from a noble family, she was only a lady, which is a lower rank within the nobility. This lower rank meant she was closer to the “common-folk” which really made her a princess of the people. She also had the “fairytale” wedding: Big poufy dress, gorgeous crown, long train, horse-drawn carriages, fairytale kiss atop a balcony, and of course she married a prince.

Princess Diana was beloved by all who met her! She was known
for being shy, but she did not shy away from helping people. She always held
herself with such grace and was always kind to other people. When she became
Princess of Wales, she became the patroness of many different charity organizations
and continued to help them even after her divorce from Prince Charles.

The biggest thing I admire about Princess Diana is how much she cared about people. She was fully committed to her charity work and wanted to help people all over the world. Her main charities focused on helping children and people with diseases such as AIDS and leprosy. She inspires people all over the world and including me to be kind and help out your fellow man.

I enjoyed getting to talk about Princess Diana in this assignment. I love the Royal Family and it was cool getting to use that knowledge in an assignment.

I can move mountains, I can work a miracle

I have a lot of favorite historical figures. I figured I’d write about a dude who doesn’t get near enough credit: Martin Luther. This is the guy who called out the Catholic church. He literally made a list of his grievances, and attached it to their front door. That took a lot of courage. The church was very powerful, and his actions and personal writings afterwards showed that he was (rightfully) terrified. He was challenging The System, as well as most of Europe’s deeply held religious beliefs. And while he ran and hid, he never recanted. I admire that a great deal. Whether he changed things for the better or not, he stood up for what he believed was right. He called out corruption and hypocrisy, very much at the risk of his own life and safety. Regardless of whether or not I agree with his beliefs and writings (and many of them were not great, considering the time period), I respect his actions. It’s something I think people forget: no one is perfect (except Mr. Rogers), but that doesn’t invalidate everything they’ve ever done.

JFK in the Apocalypse

My favorite historical figure is JFK. I relate to him because we are both from Massachusetts. He is also my favorite historical figure because as a president i feel like he brought a certain swagger to the workplace. He also saved his crew in the Navy.

Now something weird…

To tie this to the topic of an apocalypse, I think JFK would be pretty badass in the apocalypse. He was always down for modernizing and new technology so he would be able to come up with new ways to survive.

Historifig

Write about your favorite historical figure, it could be anyone famous or not so famous from the past. Do more than just giving some biographical details however, describe WHY they are your favorite, how and why you relate to them, and why they inspire you.
