I’ve used iMovie in the past, maybe about 4 years ago. When I opened the application it was as if I’ve never used it… I was completely lost. After a few hours of playing around with it I finally semi figured it out. Here’s how I did it… Hopefully this helps and saved you time on your own sign language video.

To begin I thought of what word I wanted to spell out. Once I had that down I headed on over to YouTube to find a corresponding background song. Lucky for me I already had a song in mind so it didn’t take long at all. I chose an instrumental to the song You’re Beautiful by James Blunt. I then went on youtube-mp3.org in order to convert the youtube video into an mp3. Once converted the song automatically saved to my iTunes.

I then went on to google an image of the sign language alphabet. From there I opened up the Photo Booth application on my mac in order to record my video. I selected the comic book effect because I wanted something that wasn’t boring. I then went on to record and save my video.

After my video was all done in Photo Booth I moved on to iMovie. Ok so here things can get slightly complicated so hopefully I can explain it well enough for you to remake. Once I opened up iMovie I selected the CREATE option. It then led me to a themes screen where you can select the theme you want. I chose to opt out of this… I figured working with a blank slate would be easier. From there I imported the video that I recorded on Photo Booth onto iMovie.

I then selected iTunes from content library on the left bottom side. That allowed me to selected the music I wanted from iTunes. Once I found the song, under the edit option I selected append to background music. As expected this put the song in the background of my video.

The next screenshot shows a couple of steps in one. All of the following steps are pretty much up to you. All based on what you want your video to look like. I will try my very best to explain…apologizing ahead of time. I started by selecting a background for my tittle. These can be found under the maps & rounds option under content library. Under title you can select how you want your tittle to appear. The slide showing the credits is the same method.

To apply your selections into your video all you need to do is drag it down to the bottom half of the screen. From there you can drag left and right to lengthen or shorten it. After you’ve achieved your desired results select share and save it as a file.

After saving it go ahead and upload it to youtube. Publish it then copy the link to embed it into your post.
