Audio Assignments

Music Tag

One of my favorite type of assignments is audio! Lyrics and songs are great ways to tell stories. Have you notice similar themes extend genres… lyrics overlapping. Your task is to create a story by using audio snippets from songs. The trick is you have to have the last word of your clip, be the same word that starts the next clip. Use at least 5 different songs, try to include different genres or decades.

Find all the YouTube videos of your songs and position it to play a little before the part you want to capture.
Use Audacity to record the clips
Edit the Clips Together
Export Your New Story

Dialogue Mashup

As demonstrated by the Movies Mashup episode of the radio show The Truth, take two different movies and extract the dialogues scenes of actors form each, then re-edit them to create a story as if the characters from different movies were in the same conversation.

Listen to examples from the show including The Terminator and Legally Blonde (“Terminally Blonde”) and from the TV shows that become “The Sopranos in the West Wing.”

Onomatopoeias!

I want you to tell a joke, or create a longer comedy skit if you please, with sound effects! http://www.freesound.org/ should be able to help you find sound effects. So for example when you get to the punch line, I want to hear laughter from the “crowd”. Or if you fall down I want to hear a “thud”. I want sound effects! You should include at least 3 sound effects in you skit.

Jingle Jangle

Write a jingle about a product that you like and then use your imagination. Extra points if you use an instrument.

The One-Man Play

Act out a scene from a play by yourself, using different voices for different characters. Have fun with this!

Make Music DAMNIT

Play the first song you have ever learned through any type of musical medium. Do it in a way that conjures up your memory of learning that song, or somehow fold the song into a larger story.

Familiar Sounds

We all have sounds that are familiar to us, but strange to others. Examples include the creak in the stairs, the ticking of the clock, or traffic if you life on a road, etc. Record some of the sounds that you hear daily that may be unfamiliar to others and build it into an audio story.

Loud Mouth

Tell a story using different lyrics from music by different artistes in different genres. It should be at least 3 minutes long and should make sense. You can listen to my version at http://soundcloud.com/abbiebuadiwa/soudn-story. Check out the tutorials as well. As long as you have audacity and ur brains, this assignment should be easy.

Poetry Reading

Poetry is meant to be read aloud. Select a poem – it can be a personal favorite or one you find randomly – and read it aloud in a way that itself makes it a story. Then at the ending of that poem extend it or connect it to a story — this has to be more than just reading a poem to be a story.

Hear It Here

This is an audio assignment where you will need to use homophones – words that sound the same with different meanings (hear/here, bee/be, dear/deer, etc.). Using as many homophones as you can, write and record a brief story or poem.
