Video Assignments

Why So Serious?

Why should movies be so serious? Take a clip from a movie that is supposed to be serious and remove the audio.  Then, replace the audio with that from a comedy movie.  Try to line up the speaking from the audio clip with the movements and actions in the video clip.  This creates a hilarious effect that we all enjoy.  Try using well known movies and clips so that we knwo what the actor should be saying.  It makes the clip all the more funny.

Have a Conversation With yourself!

Have a conversation with yourself! Film yourself talking, then change clothes, hair styles, etc and then film the other half of the convo. Edit this in any movie editor program (I used Pinnacle movie maker) To overlap the two scenes so that you are talking to yourself! Play around, to figure out the most efficient way! Also, timing is everything in this! Make sure when talking to leave breaks for your other self to respond!

Have fun with this!

Animal Dance Off

Find any song and mash up a video of some animals dancing.  Try to get the animals to move to the beat.

Where do you want to go?

Where is somewhere that you have always dreamed of going? I really like travelling, and I often think about where I would go if I had all the money in the world. Do a video montage of images and/or video of the places that you would like to go, and add music that is native to the that area or just something fun.

Vine it!

I know you probably have a smart phone so take advantage of your apps! There’s a new(ish) app out there called Vine, it’s super cool and I love watching super cool Vines (not super crappy ones!) Show DS106 what you did today! Show us what you ate for lunch, show us what you did when you woke up, show us what you did while you were making another DS106 assignment (hey 2 birds one stone!) get creative! It’s only a 6 second video!

Show Off

So you’ve come to the end of the season of DS106 (yes the season, because DS106 is #4life) and you want to showcase your work! Go through all of the work you did for DS106 and showcase it as you see fit with audio and video.  Ideally this will combine your audio, visual, design, and video.  Show us what you’re most proud of and display it in an awesome way!

green screen it

Make yourself go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go…. using a green screen! (Sheets work well too). Tell us a story while you’re “visiting” this special place.

Shoot yourself in front of a green screen or a sheet (hang it up so that it takes up the whole video screen.) Use a tripod to keep the camera steady. Video yourself… make it believable.

You can use any video editing software, but I used pinnacle movie maker, so that’s what this tutorial is going to show you how to use.

Download a video from YouTube or something of what you want the background to be.

Drag both videos (green screen video  on top layer, video  on bottom layer) so they are in sync.. You may have to cut some of one of the videos out so that they are the same length.

You will want to use Chroma key for this. You want to enable it and apply to new clips. For “Presets” select green screen key.

Move the green screen layer to the bottom row, and the video to the top one.

Play with the transparencies to make it more realistic.

Have fun!

Video Your Mood

In a particularly festive, foul, or fleeting mood? Capture some video during the experience, then remix, time warp, or alter the raw video to attempt to recapture the essence or mood of the experience. Only video and audio from the original recording are allowed.

Hangover Assignment

The movie The Hangover has a scene at the end of the movie with the characters finding a camera with pictures capturing the crazy moments from the previous night. Use props to create a set to stage a crazy night. Get enough photos to have a 1-2 minute long video and add music that syncs well with your photos.

Movie talk and show

We all have a movie we love the most, so why don’t we talk about it. First you need to introduce and talk about your favorite movie and why you like it. Show us some of your favorite scenes in the movie. Make sure the clips are not too long though. Say why you like these scenes so much. Is there a major complaint about your movie? Counter it here.  Explain why the complaint isn’t valid. When finished filming and editing, upload your video to youtube.
