Visual Assignments

ReCaptcha Illustrated

Include a screenshot of a word pair from a reCapctha (http://www.google.com/recaptcha or heck right at the bottom of this assignment submission form http://assignments.ds106.us/submit-an-assignment/) in an illustration or visual mashup that shows what the words might mean. Use your imagination to create something meaningful out of the random words.

When you write it up, provide some narrative that puts the image in context.

Picturing Prufrock

Choose an image from T.S. Eliot’s beautiful poem “The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock” and illustrate it through art, audio, video, or any other creative medium.

Paint a picture, put the words to music, make a mashup, photograph a scene, write a short story, bake a Prufrock cake… anything!

Oh, do not ask, “What is it?”
Let us go and make our visit.

Demotivate yourself!

Reimagined Road Signs

_cokwr: Reimagine the scene in a road sign. What is going on outside the iconic depiction in the sign itself? Find a road sign image online or photograph it yourself. Car Lust

_cokwr: So I wanted to submit a new visual assignment. All of us, most of us anyways, have a dream car. This is a simple assignment. Take a picture, or find a picture on the web of a car that you love. Then, write a description of how that car make you feel. That's it. Short and simple. This combines the visual of a car, with the story telling aspect, of how an object make you feel. , _cpzh4: Visual, _cre1l: http://blog.mg79mkiv.info/?p=239, _chk2m: MG79MKiV, _ciyn3: 123, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

Find Yourself

_cokwr: Find your name in the environment around you. Look for your first name, parts of your first name, or even the individual letters that make up your name in the environment around you. Take photos and crop them together. Share. Enjoy!, _cpzh4: Visual, _chk2m: Chris Randles, _ciyn3: 119, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

A change of emotion (in two panels)

_cokwr: Write and illustrate (photograph, sketch, video sample, etc) a two panel story that describes a change of emotion. For example. Panel 1: A man receives some suprising news about a loved one. Panel 2: He is deeply saddened. Panels can contain simple captions or annotation. Extra points if the emotional change is a 'mixed emotion'., _cpzh4: Visual, _chk2m: rowan_peter, _ciyn3: 19, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

We Don’t Need No Stinkin Badges Badge

_cokwr: Badges are everywhere, right. On policemen and women, in the gaming world, in the movies. Well, here is your chance to make a badge for our ds106 world. How does one earn a badge you might ask? Well, in ds106 we like to just do it to ourselves. We are a rather self-indulgent lot. Make 'em and pin 'em!, _cpzh4: Visual, _cre1l: http://awindowisatthecenter.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/cigs.gif, _chk2m: Todd Conaway, _ciyn3: 169, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

Cropped Signs

_cokwr: We think of creation as addition, but there is a form of creation by deletion (e.g. Newspaper Blackout poetry http://newspaperblackout.com/) In this assignment, you need to change, alter, enhance the meaning of a sign by cropping out parts of it. This should be doing in camera, but could also be done in post- crop out, but do not photoshop in any extras. Also, be sure to describe in you caption or blog post what the original sign said. For the example below, the sign said "No Canada Tennis Parking" but by removing the last word, it makes it sound more like a radical anti-tennis call for action., _cpzh4: Visual, _cre1l: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cogdog/5677012243/, _chk2m: cogdog, _ciyn3: 129, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:
