For my second remix I remixed one of the assignments I did this week. For I’m ready for my close up we had to close in on somebody’s face and put it in a random place where they shouldn’t be. For the original assignment I put Arnold Schwarzenegger in space. For the remix  I had to “Dr. Seuss” it. I found a close up of the cat in the hat and put him space. I did the assignment the same way as the original. I used MS paint to crop the cat out of its original picture and placed it in the outer space picture.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was walking down the street one day when a group of young kids began doing a bunch of poor Arnie impressions. “GET TO THE CHOPPER”, “I’LL BE BACK”, they yelled. This struck a chord with Arnold and he said that he has had enough with all of the cliche impressions that people would not let go of. No matter where he went, he couldn’t escape it. People wouldn’t even have a serious conversation with him, they would just say quote after quote. He became engulfed in rage and screamed at the top of his lungs. His rage propelled him through the atmosphere into outer space where he could finally be free of all these bad impressions. Finally, Arnold was at peace and could enjoy life in the solitude of outer space away from all this bad acting.

In this assignment we had to take a close up of a person’s face and place it over a random background image. I wasn’t sure who’s face to use until I saw this picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger screaming, which I thought would be perfect. I figured that outer space would be a pretty random place for him to be since, well, it’s a random place for anybody to be. I found the pictures on google and used the paint.net program to crop the images together.

I made this graphic on Microsoft power point. I always enjoy utilizing Microsoft Powerpoint because the program has has a really cool feature with pictures AND videos assessable to anyone who has the program. Under “Format Picture” there is an option to “remove background”. This gives you the option to cut from any photo. I like using powerpoint because I don’t have to worry about things like margins or overlay.

Woho!!!! Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up ya’ll! Its that time of year. This is my holiday mashup. My three favorite holidays are Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas! I created this graphic in a photo shop app on my iPad called Faceover. It was on one dollar too! Santa’s sleigh is being steered by the easter bunny, who has a trunk full of turkey dinner!!! yum!! lol. I hope you enjoy my creativity!

This assignment entailed taking a close-up photo of a face (in my case, of a camera-shy friend), and pairing it with a background.

Process: The photo of my friend was taken on an iPhone SE and sent to my MacBook for editing in Photoshop. The background is a stock photo off of a Google search. Slight image editing was done to increase the brightness of the portrait so as to keep it relatively bright when compared to the background.

I confess! I have become an illegal Girl Scout Cookie dealer!

And Steven Seagal is coming for me!

Funny thing is, I’m probably one of the few people you’ll meet who DOESN’T eat Girl Scout Cookies.

It all started by accident. A friend of mine from work has her daughter in Girl Scouts and when cookie time cam around this year, she (by her own admission) over-promised the amount of cookies she would be able to sell. It didn’t help that she got sick during cookie selling season and couldn’t take he daughter out.

So, left with a spare room full of cases of cookies, she did what any self-respecting mother would do: she used her “connections” to “get the word out.”

Like most workplaces, we aren’t allowed to solicit among each other or post non work-related flyers anywhere. But, if you have the will, the information will get out.

Being a good daughter, I hooked my mom up with a couple of boxes of Thin Mints (her favorites) and brought them to her church congregation. Well, someone saw me slip them to her and the word got out. Next thing I know, I have church ladies sidling up to me and saying “So, I hear you know somebody who has some leftover Girl Scout Cookies…” or something like that.

Every Sunday since then, I find myself bringing bags of cookies and slipping them under peoples’ chairs in Sunday school. My friend loves me as I’ve helped her offload most of her cookies and she can now see her window again.

It makes me nervous though. I feel like someone out there are going to bust me and ship me off to Cookie Jail. I know it probably won’t happen. The Girl Scouts has their money and my friend is only charging the authorized price for the cookies to make her money back. Everything is above board except for the fact that we’re selling the cookies “out of season.”

Just do me a favor. If you see Steven Seagal lurking around the corner anywhere near me, please let me know. That way I can throw some Peanut Butter Patties and Lemonades at him and get away while he is distracted.

This week, when looking over DS106’s Mashup Assignments I tried searching for something that I could relate to education. I once again landed on something I feel like I could remix in order to use it with my own students, and I used a terrible “teaching” related movie in the meantime.

I can’t totally explain why, but I chose to mashup a picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop, with a bear. Based on what I was seeing from many of the mashup examples I figured-hey, the cheesier the better. Also, most movies about teachers/schools are cheesy and terrible, so I figured I would go with it.

Mashing up these two images was for Mashup Assignment 1945, I’m Ready for My Closeup. The assignment asks that you take a dramatic close up of anyone’s face and superimpose with a landscape or scene. I found a picture of Arnold running away from the children in the movie like he was running from something that was about to eat him, and landed on the bear picture.

In order to create this mashup I layered my two photos using the PhotoshopMix app. I’m still finding it easier to do most of my DS106 assignments on my phone, instead of my desktop. The apps seem easier to use. I landed on PhotoshopMix after trying out some more confusing programs on my desktop. However, I tried hard to follow Remi’s advice and not agonizing over making it perfect, and instead tried to have some fun with the mashup, and here is what I came up with:

The Assignment: Take a dramatic closeup of anyone’s face – an actor’s, a friend’s, your own – and superimpose a landscape or scene over the face. Since this is a mashup, get crazy with it. Take two completely unrelated images and put them together, then try to make a story out of it!

John McClane (from Die Hard) gets a little help from the Tooth Fairy (played by the Rock). In what is possible the first Action Movie Cross Over to be Kid Friendly, this summer’s block buster is predicted to be FAIRY HARD. In theaters everywhere July 6th.

For the mashup assignment I chose to do I’m Ready For My Closeup MashupAssignments1945. The assignment was to take a closeup of a face and create a new background/story. To get this image I first googled closeups from movie and did not get anything I really wanted to use. I slept on it for a night and decided it would be fun to use an image of a person listening through a door and have it be something weird on the other side.

I found this image of Kevin Spacey from the movie American Beauty (which I have not seen in a million years). 

I then opened the image in GIMP and cropped out half of the picture taking out the wall. I then wanted to put a scene from the Avengers on the other side. I found two images I liked. 

I tried putting both on the other side of the door in the Kevin Spacey picture but it just did not look right. I went back to the internet and typed in listening pets. I decided to go for a simpler picture. I found this image of a cat and I liked it because he was leaning towards the door listening back.

I cropped the image in GIMP and layered it on top of Kevin Spacey’s picture. So now all you have to wonder about is who is listening to who?
