High Afternoon on Monday the 31st of March

The salty air whipped through his lungs and he breathed deep, letting it fill him to the brim. Exhaustion blanketed him, pressing him down. He sank into the sand, burying his hands into it, the warmth from the fine white grains seeping first along the pattern of thin scars still healing, then into his calloused palms and aching fingers, turning it all into a heat haze. Now that the projection was done, the tattoos that had flared into prominence on his hands were fading slowly, returning back to his own original skin tone, leaving the pinkish marks in its place. He closed his eyes in simple rest bite, letting the sunlight emanate through his eyelids. The waves roared their approval, their pride in his accomplishment. This was the first time he had tried to call on anything with the markings on his skin, and he made it, he was here—

“¿QuĂŠ haces aquĂ?” a voice asked. He looked up to see a woman silhouetted against the falling sun. She wore a loose shirt flapping in the breeze and pants with the legs rolled up. Hints of colorful embroidery curled around the sleeves and cuffs, like thread vines curling around whatever it pleased. She wore a hat low over her features.

“Nada, señora,” he said politely. She frowned.

“¿CĂłmo llegaste a esta playa?” she asked.

“No me vas a crees,” he said. He moved to stand up but she moved back and held out her hand in a warning.

“¡SiĂŠntate!”

He stopped and slowly sat down again. “Lo siento.”

“¿En serio, por quĂŠ estĂĄs aquĂ?” she said, “dime rĂĄpido.”

“Necesito visitar un hombre,” he said, “él estĂĄ aquĂ, su nombre es HĂŠctor?”

“¿Héctor? ¿Qué quieres con él?” she asked.

“Quiero hablar,” he said, “solo hablar.” She hesitated for a second but relented.

“¿Te llaman Eric?” she asked.

“Sí, me llaman así,” Eric said.

“Bien. Sígueme,” she said, turning. Eric stood and bid the beach farewell as he followed her inland, the swell of the waves fading with each step.

I used the last remix to expand on my final project idea, and that went very well, so I wanted to do the same thing with this one. Because I only have a few assignments about the final project story, I decided pretty much by default to remix Monday the 31st of March.

This remix prompt immediately spoke to me because I am taking Spanish right now and I loved the idea of trying to write dialogue in Spanish. So I gave it a shot. Because the characters have some more advanced sentences than what I am learning in class, I sent the story to my Spanish professor for him to read it over, and he gave me some corrections, so shoutout Prof. Campos Dintrans!

Two New Characters for the Price of One!

For this remix, I wanted to tell more of my final project story, and figure out more of what is happening. So when I saw this remix, it just fit! But instead of one extra character, I added two for the price of one, but just their voices.

To make this, I wrote out a script, recorded the lines, and spliced them all together in iMovie. It was pretty simple, which was a fantastic and much need break from the more intense mash-ups I have done this week.

Spanish Music, English Video Remix

This music video was one of my favorites to create. The powerful song paired with the two videos I chose almost made me cry every time I watched it during production. This work is based on a remix of the “Audio and Music Video Mashup” using the remix card “In another language.” The general idea is to use an existing music video and place a different song with it. Let me break my process for you.

I decided to use a Spanish song for the language requirement of this remix. I chose the song “Regresa A Mi” by Il Divo. It was a bit difficult to find a video to fit with this song since the song is almost 5 minutes long. Eventually, I chose the music videos for “Before You Go” and “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi.

For the most part, I used the scenes from “Before You Go” and the singing scenes from “Someone You Loved.” I also tried to pair the music video as best as I could with the song. For example, at one point late in the song, there is a really strong chorus as the song reaches its climax. I chose to pair this with scenes of a funeral from “Before You Go.”

When I reached the end of the video, I was a few seconds short of the end of the song. I really wanted the song to end while looking at the woman from “Someone You Loved” looking back at the singer. I screenshot the image and pasted it into the video with a slow fade to black. Unfortunately, the proportions didn’t fully line up so you can tell that there is an image there instead of the video. However, the effect that I wanted was captured so I ignored this problem (especially since I couldn’t find a solution).

I really enjoyed working on this assignment. It is similar to some I have worked on in the past, but this time, I limited myself to only using the two videos instead of a long movie with lots of clips to choose from. Even though the videos were completely different, they somehow meshed well together when placed to this song.

Week 12: Mashups and Remixes

Remix It: Put a ‘stache on it.”
Song: Tequila by The Champs
I had to create myself in the animoji app and then I found the facial hair section and chose the classic mustache. Its basically Christmas now so I had to put the Santa hat on.
Remix It: Cancer Sucks
Rambo First Blood Poster turned into Cancer Awareness Poster! He’s coming!
Im a big fan of Sylvester Stallone movies especially the Rambo series. I thought the quote under the red bold STALLONE fit well with people battling cancer. It’s a sad but true statement about what people with cancer go through. I made this poster in Canva which made it very easy.
Favorite Movie Clip
After their plane crashes in Alaska, six oil workers are led by a skilled huntsman to survival, but a pack of merciless wolves haunts their every step (IMDB). Im a big Liam Neeson fan because of his high action movie roles. The last seen on the video I find very powerful and moving, the way Liam Neeson acts in it blew my mind the first time I watched this movie. The clips were cut up in iMovie.
The Contest Nobody Could Win (Video-Mashup Edition)
In the past couple of years these shows and movies have become some of my favorite to watch on repeat. I did the same thing I do with all my video clips, I download them off youtube and then cut them up in iMovie, in this case it was 2 second clips.
Inappropriate Laughter
The Avenger Endgame movie had a lot of hype this year and I believe it delivered. The final battle is a very serious moment and every marvel comic fan knows what will happen to a mortal who snaps their fingers with the Infinity Gauntlet, so this cartoon laugh is very inappropriate for this final scene. This was also cut up in iMovie and the cartoon laughter was downloaded off freesounds.org

Remix 2

For this remix assignment, I remixed the Superhumans in everyday life assignment. The remix required me to add Where’s Waldo into one of my assignments.

To make this assignment, I used my original Superhumans in everyday life assignment design. I opened the image in Canva and then added a picture of Waldo I downloaded onto my computer.

Remix 1

For this remix assignment, I used a graphic design assignment I made earlier in this semester. I hit the remix button for the Logo Switch up Assignment. The remix told me to use any previous assignment and to just make the text hard to read, add unnecessary or random images, etc. This is my final result!

To add all these random images and change the text, I used Canva again. I just scrolled through their selection of images and uploaded random ones. I changed the text as well to make it a little bit more difficult to read.

Lights Out (Assignment Bank #14)

Cartoon You [Remixed]: What’s The Prequel?

Remake you (or someone you know and love) into a cartoon character. Draw you on a piece of paper, on a tablet, take a photo and use software to convert it to comic book style, or use online programs to create a cartoon version of your character. Extra bonus points if you can come up with an origin story or add comic book elements to your final image.

REMIX CARD: What is the backstory? Prequels are the Hollywood rage as followups to movies, so for this remix, develop the prequel story and generate it in the same format as the original. Bonus points for explaining a disturbed childhood or an early force of development. Just leave out Jar Jar Binks.

BEHIND THE SCENES

I chose this particular assignment from the assignment bank because I will take any opportunity I can to draw–especially my character! For our assignment bank assignments this week, I had to mention my character in the deliverables at least twice. I thought what better way to do so than to design her–and her younger self to boot! I did the poster in the style of a stark, chic, movie poster–complete with a tagline!

MAKING OF THE ASSIGNMENT

— Opened up my art program (Clip Studio Paint)

— Drew the thumbnail, then drafted and lined the finished piece

— Used stylistic shading and stark black and white contrasts, then included typography.

— Saved as a PNG then uploaded to my website

That’s really all there was to it! It was a fun, easy assignment that I wouldn’t have qualms with doing again. Thank you for the opportunity!

Emoji Remixxx

The third and final assignment I did for the week was mashing emojis and friends! Regularly you would take an emoji and have a friend mimic that emoji, but with the remix I am supposed to introduce Dr. Seu
ss into the assignment. So my idea was to take the iconic grinch from Dr. Seuss and have my girlfriend stand like him (her favorite xmas movie) to create a new emoji and a mimic to go along with it! Here is the image I selected:

And here is my wonderful model:

Mashup and Remix Assignments

This week we were to complete 12 stars worth of Mashup Assignments and 2 Remix Assignments on the Assignment Bank site.

Mashing Friends and Emojis

For this assignment we were to take a picture of one of our  friends or just a person that is in the moment doing something exactly like an emoji and then mash them together for comparison. For this assignment I had one of my friends pose like one of his most used emoji. I put the two photos next to one another for comparison using Collage Maker. This assignment is worth 4 stars.

A Changing Character

For this assignment we were to pick any character and follow their progression that they have had … TV or Movie actors/actresses.  We could use video clips to show how the character has changed and grown up over time…. showing the progression of their work. To create this assignment I used iMovie to put the progression and videos of Jennifer Aniston’s career together. I went on Youtube and used a mp4 converter to get the clips onto iMovie. This clip is too long to post onto my blog, but can be viewed on my YouTube page. I will attach the link to the bottom of this post. This assignment is worth 5 stars.
Actor Transformation

For this assignment we were to find a famous person and use clips to show a metamorphous…. a change in their career… on clip at the beginning of their career and one clip at the most recent image. I used iMovie to create this assignment… I also converted the two clips from YouTube using a mp4 converter tool. I used Miley Cyrus’ career for this assignment because I believe her career has changed so much from the beginning till now. This assignment is worth 3 stars.

REMIX

“Stache it”

For this remix card.. there was a urban dictionary definiton of a mustache and says to add a mustache to something that is something you care a lot about… I care a lot about dogs and this image looked perfect for this Remix.

“DS106-ersizing”

For this remix card we were to use the assignment itself… making a collage of your favorite animal… and turn it into a advertisement for ds106 radio. I used Collage Maker for this assignment and added dogs as my favorite animal and a image of the ds106 radio station poster in a collage.

Focus On One Color [Remixed]

remix it assignmentThe focus on one color assignment looked really cool, and I had never done something like it this whole semester so I figured it would give it a shot. I immediately knew what I would take a picture of and I decided it would be a picture of half of my shoe collection. A lot of the boxes are opened because I recently wore the shoes and haven’t put them back yet, oh well! ? The majority of my shoe boxes are orange or have orange in them seeing how most of my collection is NIKE and that’t their color. So I used a photo editor online, (fotor.com) and used the color splash feature, which turns the whole picture black and white and you have to choose with a brush which parts you want to reveal. That was simple enough. Because this photo editor didn’t have the feature to add another photo, I had to use another (piZap.com) which I am already familiar with. From their I added the “Wreck it Ralph” Character onto one of my shoe boxes as if he was standing on it. I chose him because that pose is how I feel when I look at all my shoes, I feel accomplished, I don’t know why I enjoy them so much. I uploaded the photo to Flickr and transferred it onto my amazing blog!:) I  have some photos below of me using both the photo editors I used to create this masterpiece.
