Hangover Assignment

I had so much fun with the Hangover Assignment (4.5 stars). When I read it, I knew my night out in Clarendon with my best friend would be perfect! I started my day bright and early with a cold, rainy muddy rugby game at VCU. We won! (And I scored!) Then I rushed home to change and headed to Arlington where we went to the Clarendon Halloween Bar Crawl. After sorting through about 100 selfies, I put together this video montage of our night.

I used Windows Live Movie Maker to create the slideshow and added the song Fireball by Pitbull. It was really simple to create, the long part was spending a whole day taking pictures.

Enjoy our foolishness!

The Complete Package – A Video Assignment Idea

Binge watching of television shows is so popular nowadays with the help of Netflix and Hulu and that is what inspired my idea for this video assignment. Pick a show that has already completed it’s run on tv and then make a montage of video clips of the show. The video must be at least 2 minutes long and uploaded to your YouTube or Vimeo account once it’s finished. Then write a short blog post about how you made the video. This assignment could be worth 4 stars, maybe even 5. What do you think?? Sound like something you’d want to do?? I’ve already made a montage so check it out and let me know what you think!!

A Mashup of Baltimore

I couldn’t help but mashup a trailer for two shows filmed in Baltimore. Clips that I downloaded from YouTube of Homicide: Life on the Street and The Wire were combined with the theme song of The Wire and pictures with text that I made with an app on my phone to make this trailer. My new favorite digital love iMovie helped me to combine everything together. It’s been years since I’ve watched Homicide: Life on the Street but after doing this 5 star assignment, I might just have to re-watch it once the semester is over.

Crash Will Never Be A Royal

Since I tend to use my kids and my dogs for a lot of my projects for this class, I decided to exploit my dog yet again for 3 1/2 stars worth of video assignments. I used my iPhone to do slow motion recordings of my dog and then used iMovie to put them together to the tune of “Royals” by Lorde. It was my first experience with iMovie and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to use. I even figured out how to mute the background noise so that the song is the only thing you can hear in the video. Then I uploaded it to my youtube account created for this class. Crash won’t ever be a royal; hopefully, you can.

Omar: Chipmunk Style

I followed this great tutorial for the Chipmunk Style assignment

(2.5 stars, but I think it should be 3 since it took me a while)

Process

I used MPEG stream clip to trim the scene that I wanted. I chose the one where Omar is talking about how he almost got an old woman killed in a shooting. I picked this scene because I thought it would be funny to make such a serious scene sound silly.

I downloaded Camtasia to record my screen.

cam1

I exported the audio from the recording into Audacity. I used the change pitch effect and increased it 40% to get the Chipmunk effect.

cam 2

On Camtasia, I deleted the original audio and added in my new audio with the chipmunk effect.

I uploaded my finished project to youtube and here’s what I have!

A Video Created for My Boy of Fall

I used an app on my iPhone to create this 5 star video assignment. It’s pictures of my son and his teammates over the last two seasons set to the tune of Kenny Chesney’s “Boys of Fall” song. Makes me so happy that my son can have the experience of being part of a team like the Yellow Jackets of The James Monroe High School.

Charlie Chaplin: The Lion’s Cage Foley Sounds!

As my birthday is in February, I was tasked with creating Foley sounds for the actions between 00:30 and 01:00 in Charlie Chaplin’s The Lion’s Cage.  Some of the sounds were tough to create with just my body and the items I found around me,  but overall I feel like I accurately recreated all the sounds of the clip.

I identified seven main sounds that I needed to create for the segment: the handkerchief swish, Chaplin’s footsteps, the door opening, the tiger’s roar, the door slamming shut, the lion’s tail swishing, and the water spilling.  The first sound, the handkerchief, was definitely the most challenging to recreate.  I tried several things, such as shaking scarves and other clothing items, but none of them created a sound that I really liked.  The final sound for this action that I settled on was created by rapidly rubbing my hand on my jacket sleeve.  The footsteps were made by hitting one of my shoes against a table in rhythm with the video.  The door opening sound is literally a door opening-I tried to find the squeakiest door possible as the door in the video looked like it would have some kind of squeak.  The tiger’s roar is a very sad attempt at sounding ferocious by me.  For the door slamming shut I went with dropping a flip flop on a table, as it created a better sound than an actual door closing.  The lion’s tail was probably the second most challenging behind the handkerchief in the sense that it was difficult to think of a sound to make.  To make this sound, I simple slapped my hands together a few times.  Recreating the water spilling was probably the easiest sound to make.  I took a cup of water outside and poured it on the ground.

After all the sounds were recorded, some editing was necessary in Audacity to match them as closely as possible to the film.

How I made chaplin

Try watching the film while listening to the sounds to see how close they match!

For reference, this assignment is listed under video assignments and is worth: 4stars

Wolf clip

Part 1 | Part 2

I hope you liked my creepy video.  It originally wasn’t supposed to be in the story but as I was writing I realized it had been awhile since I added a new media.  Once again, I didn’t choose anything in the assignment bank, I just created my own video assignment.

I wanted Red to encounter something really creepy while snooping around and I thought I needed another wolf reference, so I went to YouTube and found a video of what looked like wolves eating a man.  I downloaded it using savefromnet then I uploaded this to Windows Live Movie Maker and clipped it down, because I didn’t want the video to be too long.  After I did this I made the video black and white and took the volume off.

I thought this was boring like this so I thought some nice scary music would really set this off, so using freesound, I looked up scary sounds until I came to this verrrryyyy creepy humming sound.

Now that I had my perfect video and perfect music, I used Audacity to clip the humming sound down to fit the length of the clip.  I thought the sound needed to be a little louder so I then adjusted the volume a little higher.
humming

Once done, I uploaded the music to WLMM along with the clip.

Again, I thought it wasn’t complete.  What would make a clip even scarier, I thought.  DUH! Having it suddenly end! I went to YouTube and found a video of tv static, uploaded this to the clip and now finally, I was satisfied.

Part 4 | Final Project

Just Vine It!

I chose to do this assignment because I love the idea of Vine. I had an account until Instagram updated its system to have video creations like Vine. I wanted to capture a typical Monday for me when I don’t have any internships or homework. I go to work for ten hours, go home and try to relax if I can.

I created this six second video by downloading the Vine app into my iPhone 5s. I created an account. Then, I begin to create a video by clicking on the video camera icon on the top right in the third picture. Lastly, I begin recording segments by pressing on the screen.

As you record, the bar on the top will fill up with a green color. When your video is ready, it will allow you to proceed to the next page where you can choose to keep or discard the different segments you recorded. When you are satisfied with your video, it’s time to press the check mark with the green circle as shown in picture 3 below. You will be directed to the Share page. Pick a great title and connect to Twitter and Facebook. Wala! That’s how you create a vine.

Four

It’s been a while now since I realized my lucky number is 4.  I see this number everywhere I go, no matter what format it’s in.  Not only that but I was born on 4/14, April 14.  Hmm.

I decided to do the Movies by Number assignment on the number 4 for these reasons.

I found all the pictures for this video by simply googling certain words and picking the pictures that represented four of something.  I didn’t want to do this so literal by having the number four repeatedly in different fonts, so I chose symbols instead.

The music is just a piano instrumental I found on Youtube, which I downloaded with http://en.savefrom.net/.  I then used an online converter to turn it into a WAV file to upload to Audacity.  I also found the heartbeat from freesound.

Once I collected all my pictures I placed them in Windows Live Movie Maker in a random order and looked out how long it was.  I then uploaded the piano music to Audacity and trimmed it down to fit the length of the movie and the heartbeat sound.

Back on movie maker, I placed the sounds where I wanted them to be, and made each picture one second long.  I chose this length because I didn’t want the pictures to drag on, I wanted them to be showed fairly quickly.  After I got everything done I uploaded it to youtube.
