Story Through Lyrics

Recently, I watched a playthrough of NieR (2010), and the soundtrack is out of this world amazing! I especially love the ending credit song “Ashes of Dreams” because it captures the bittersweet and somber tone of the story.

When I initially decided to do the lyric video assignment (4.5 stars), I wanted to do “Don’t Think Twice” by Utada Hikaru, but when I opened up the iMovie app and saw the ‘organic’ background, the first song that popped into my head was “Ashes of Dreams (New)”

To match the tone of the story as well as the quality of the singer’s voice, I chose the ‘Focus’ title for the text. Although the lyrics don’t fully present themselves completely in time with the song, I nonetheless still think it captures the atmosphere the song is trying to present. My purpose of this lyric video wasn’t to make it a perfect “sing-along” type of lyric video, but one that indirectly tells the story of the game. I did it for the aesthetic, really.

I also played around with the colors of the text based on the part of the song it’s at (verse, chorus, etc.). I wanted to maintain an earthy tone to match the organic background, but I highlighted certain words with specific colors to give the text more life.

Lastly, during the instrumental sections, I downloaded the ending video of the game, lowered the video’s opaqueness, and added extra filters. Overall, it was time consuming and battery draining, but I very much enjoyed this assignment.

Here is the lyric video! I hope I was able to convey the mood of the story!

Quick, Draw! FUN

AHH! This assignment was so much fun. I played it three times and it was more and more fun each time. I think it is cool how they can have a program like this that guesses the images as you draw them. I think that everyone should play it if they can!

Dream Room

http://pin.it/O1bz2Yh

My dream room is very…complex. There are a lot of components that I would love to have. First of all, it would be HUGE. It would have a walk in closet, maybe two stories tall. Then it would have a projector with a movie screen for a Tv. Another thing I would love to have is a small craft area. Here, I could keep all my painting supplies. Check out my board from the link above and see all the different parts of my dream room!

I have always wanted to go to Greece and now that my honeymoon will be coming up next year, maybe this is the perfect time to plan my dream trip. I will need to get my fiance his passport. Then we will have to find a hotel that is within our budget. Then book the flight, then off we go! Also, we would get travel insurance just incase our plans need to change. The language there is obviously Greek and  you only need routine shots to travel there! I really hope I get to go in 2018!

Writing Assignment – Different Point Of View – Same Place

I’m writing my character’s point of view of an event that Kyle Masala is responsible and known for. While he was a bartender, legend says he ended bar fight by shooting the hats off of both of their heads. Luke, drifting from town to town, was lucky enough witness this unfold from the corner of the bar.

Luke pushed the saloon doors, and his eyes began adjusting to the dingy room before him. He had heard the sound from down the street, but it felt amplified within closed doors. Walking towards the bar, he glanced at the bartender. A young man, mid 20s, yet Luke could tell he was hardened by pain. He asked for a whiskey, which was speedily delivered. He thanked the bartender, and retreated to a corner table, hoping to find some solace in this uproarious environment.

Luke quickly turned to his thoughts, building a wall within his mind to block out all the noise. It had been ten years already, but the memories, the sounds, still endured. He often found himself brooding about the past, especially during the spring. His life had so much more potential back then; as usual, regrets, and dreams, flooded back in. Luke’s journey towards sorrow had nearly reached the brink, when an earsplitting sound of broken glass pulled him back to reality.

He looked around, and saw a gruff man, about 40, on the ground. A young man, with an even younger face, stood above him.

“John, you sonnuva bitch, I told you I’d come back fer you! Should have left when you had the chance!” the young kid screamed.

The old man didn’t say a word. He stumbled back up, and quickly pulled out a revolver. The boy, quick on his hands, responded in turn. A standoff ensued, neither man moving a muscle. Luke noticed the bartender over to the side; he quit polishing a glass, dropping it on the bar, and let out a sigh. With lightning speed, he unracked a Winchester 1873 from under the counter, and fire two shots. The men remained standing, but their hats, that was a different story: the bullets had thrown them to the floor.

“I’ve had ENOUGH! Take your fight out of my bar, and out of my town!” hollered the bartender.

The men complied. The silence brought about by the scuffle turned into cheers, and the bartender went back to polishing glasses, as if nothing had happened. Luke’s habitual descent to darkness was prevented, tonight at least. He paid for his drink, with a hefty tip to the bartender, and pushed open the saloon doors, and walked into the night.

Design Assignment – Change Of Scenery

This assignment, Change of Scenery, has you place a character or characters into a different background. Since we had to incorporate other characters from our class, I went with Josh Whiting’s Donnie Rejj, who is a cyborg cowboy, namely because he had provided a picture I felt I could use on his page. To represent my character Luke, as well as giving an environment to place Rejj in, I used this painting of the Gunslinger (from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series) which was created by Michael Whelan. I had seen this picture years ago, and the look of the Gunslinger heavily influenced how I viewed my character.

The main work here was cropping out the cyborg cowboy, which I did with my trusty friend the pen tool. Photoshop_2016-03-17_20-30-51

After plopping the robo-cowboy into the gunslinger painting, I added a lighting and shadow effect, to try and match the painting. It’s obviously not as good as the painter, but it looks a hell of a lot better than before I did anything. The final result is below:darktower2

Design Assignment – Most Wanted Outlaws DS106 Style

This is my first collaborative character assignment, and I decided to create a wanted poster for Andy Slupek’s character Andy, who is a bank robber, and my character Luke, who’s a vagabond. The two worked for a brief amount of time after an encounter during a robbery, where an opportunistic Luke assisted in return for cash. wanted poster 2

The process was fairly simple. The photo is actually of Jesse James and Robert Ford; I used it because it was the best quality picture of two outlaw types I could find online. I overlaid it onto some old looking paper texture I have on file. The name of the bank was actually a bank that Butch Cassidy robbed. I was looking for an actual western bank name, and learned in the process that bank robbery was not as prominent in the west as it’s been portrayed. Overall, fairly easy, but it gives a hearty 3.5 stars.

A Letter To You As A Child

Dear Maybelline,

The first thing I would say to you is, don’t listen to daddy. He will tell you many lies and lead you to believe that he will pay for everything. Which he will, but then control everything that posses you. Keep going in your horse competition, because you’re gonna go so far. And you’re gonna love it, you are gonna love the future and you’re gonna have a great husband – one who loves you really well. You’re gonna have amazing kids, who love you and give you a million hugs. So while the future is hard, it will be worth it for the family you have.

*I enjoyed this assignment, but I do wish that I had done it for myself and not my western character. It was 2 and a half stars, and with that completes my ten stars of assignment banks.

Welcome To Paradise!

Well Yee-Haw, Western Belle here. Ive been dreaming about my dream vacation. If i could pick any place to go to I would choose Texas. I heard its really dry there and lots of cactuses. Heard there are lots of rodeos! Thats my kind of place, if I had to pick someone to go with I would choose Andy the bank robber. I would take him because that way he can show me the wild life. Stealing, and robbing banks. Dog-gone I can’t wait.

*For this writing assignment bank we had to create our dream vacation but also incorporate two characters. I went on the characters page and picked a random one to incorporate it to my story. The bank was a little boring, but also very vague so very easy. It is rated 3 and a half stars. I think it depends on how in depth you go- how many stars it should gain.

He was so angry he needed to get his rage out 200

But his wife (another cowgirl) was confused and upset that he was acting this way 200-1

So whats gonna happen now with the lovely couple?

*I chose to do a western movie so it would fit with the class. Since my character is a western gal, looking for a man. So I looked for Gifs that had a boy and a girl and tried to incorporate some type of relationship. Then I looked up all the characters that the class created, and I decided to use just another cowgirl. The cowgirl is the one who was flirting with another guy. And the wife is my western character. That was five stars, and I would rate it five stars because it took me a while to put the gifs to work
