Design Assignments

Create a T-Shirt

FOr this assignment, you get to design your very own t-shirt! Find a blank t-shirt template, then add a picture or some text. It could be a joke, a pop culture reference, a movie quote, or anything else you want.

Create Your Own Logo!

My assignment is to create your very own logo. You can make up your own unique item and make a logo for it or use an existing item and recreate the logo! Have fun with it, make it colorful if you want, and make sure it somehow represents the item/product you are doing the logo for. This assignment requires you to use your imagination and create your very own logo. For my example, I’m using Starbucks. I have invented a new logo for Starbucks; it’s simple but you’ll understand it when you see it.

Festival or Fundraiser?

Events, fundraisers, festivals, and other fun things to do happen around us all the time. Have you ever had two or even three events you wanted to participate in happen on the same day, but you could only choose one? For this design assignment you are tasked to create an attractive advertisement/flyer for some type of event. Be creative. Any event will do, but the point is to entice people to want to attend your event over any other. Your event could be a harvest festival with a petting zoo and pumpkin toss, or you could have bingo fundraiser to support the local SPCA, or even better yet something completely off the wall like a save the unicorns benefit. Be sure you also include a date, time, location and any other details specific to your event. Don’t forget to tag it.

Wedding Invitation

We are currently in the middle of the wedding season. With this being said so many people out there are tying the knot! For this assignment, I would like you to create/design your own wedding invitation as if you were going to be getting married soon! What would it look like? You could include pictures, date, time, place, or anything else related to this topic that you think would be fun to incorporate! Use your imagination! Be creative! To create this assignment you should use Canva. Upload your invitation to Flickr and tag it DesignAssignments.

Tattoos 4Life

Create a tattoo that can represent your personality type. Tell us about your tattooo, and what does it means to you. If there is any thing supersticious about your tattoo, share it with us. You can hand design your own unique tattoo on a plane paper, or you can use any photo editing software to design your tattoo. Once you design your own unique tattoo, make mutiple copies of that, and add different color effects to each copy. Each Color is unique, and can depict different mood. Use different effects and colors to represent the mood of your tattoo. Finally, make a collage of all the copies of tattoo you edit, and save it as jpg or png.

Design Your Own Cereal Box Cover

Cereal Boxes are often overlooked when it comes to design. But think about it, they have some of the most iconic and memorable characters all over the world. Make a mock cereal cover with a mascot- it can be anyone or anything. Go crazy in any editor such as GIMP, Pixlr, or Photoshop with the type of cereal you are advertising and the overall theme and effects of your cereal box cover.

We’ve Got You Covered

Create your own magazine cover! You’re responsible for the title, layout, font, and photos. Don’t use anything from an exsisting magazine and make everything from scratch. Put everything together and make sure you add few article titles on the front. *Bonus points if you actually write out one or two of the articles.

Something that would make you lol if you read it in a newspaper.

Step 1. Imagine yourself reading the paper in the morning.

Step 2. Think of something (a story) that would make you laugh and brighten your day if you read it.

Step 3. Using any resource availible to you, make a fake news article, that incorporates your sense of humor. Even if it is an inside joke that only you and a handful of people would get (laugh).

2 for 1 Movie Mate

What happens when you combine two existing movie titles to create your own movie? Movie Mate Parodies, of course. This project allows students to show off their creative side while demonstrating mastery using masking, non-destructive editing, adjustment layers, blending modes, filters, and the type tools.

Use your creative mind to meld two titles together. If you are stumped or have hit a wall – look at this version of a lesson plan for high school students in which several titles have been put together already for you to search and complete – reduce by one star if you use from the list. You will need to become an Adobe member to view resource files (free).

Increase by a star if you also turn it into an animatec GIF!

3D Magazine Collage

Take some of your old magazines and newspapers and create a 2D or 3D collage/sculpture of words and pictures that represent a common theme (ex: color, media subject such as animals or food, things you like, etc.). Explain why you chose your theme and what some of the individual pieces mean to you.
