By far my favorite assignment

When I tell you I absolutely LOVED doing this assignment, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I’ve probably watched this video a million times now, because it really is a memory that I love. I’m not too big on taking videos, so when the assignment said a 30 second clip, I was a bit hesitant in doing this (because most of my videos are from snapchat and they aren’t super long). Well then I remembered during spring break I took my dog to the beach and recorded us running around like fools (it was mainly so I could show my mom that I wasn’t just sitting around being lazy the entire week). But this video truly is a memory, and it’s a time I will never forget because my dog was SO happy, and ~cringey I know~ but I’m happy with my dog. She really is my Joy of Painting. My joy of life.

Now onto the nitty gritty part of the assignment. I made it in iMovie, so I started off by putting my clip into the software. Then I went to free sounds.org to find a nice piano sound to make it feel more relaxing (because this is a memory that makes me happy and relaxed). I then ran into some trouble because iMovie kept cutting the audio from my video, which I really wanted to keep because it adds more to the moment. After putting my clip back in and deleting it like 5 times, I managed to get it to work. I then lowered the sound of the piano, and increased the background volume, then used one of the filters iMovie had to make it feel more like a memory. I also had to zoom the video in because I took it portrait style, and when I zoomed in it made the quality TERRIBLE. But I think zooming helped fit the assignment more, and made it look more like an old memory. Though the assignment said a 30 second memory, and at first I was nervous I wouldn’t find a video long enough my memory ended up being a minute long, but honestly it doesn’t even feel a minute long because I kind of forget about time when I watch it.

Now let me stop rambling, because I just sound cheesy at this point.

This assignment was 3 stars ?

Absolute WORST Sounds

Another assignment that I created from the assignment bank was called “Auditory Hell”. This challenged us to create a sound involving multiple of our worst favorite sounds. I also used garage band for this because it was easier to mash together all of the sound effects. This was hard for me because I literally cringed at every single sound. For this I used 4 different sounds: Nails on a chalkboard, Aggressive Chewing, Snoring, and an Alarm Clock. I thought that we could use this assignment within our radio show for an audience check. What I mean by that is to make sure the audience is still listening and they may tweet in their answer of which of the 4 sounds is the absolute worst.

Compilation of Sounds

I decided to compile an MP3 of my favorite sounds for one of my assignments this week. This assignment definitely took some thought because when I think of sounds I enjoy, I immediately think of songs or tiktok sounds. (lol) But, I wanted to think hard about it and pick sounds that I enjoy and wouldn’t think of until I heard them. After I thought about this for a couple days, I finally had decided what sounds I would use.

Below is a list of the sounds and why I chose them:

  1. The sound of a cracking back because there is nothing more satisfying to me than cracking my back, it feels and sounds AMAZING!
  2. A ticking clock because I listen to hypnosis to go to sleep and there is a ticking noise, so the ticking clock reminds me of sleeping, which is one of my favorite things.
  3. I included water flowing in the mountains because I really enjoy being outside and hiking. Plus, the sound of running water is really relaxing.
  4. The crackling of a bonfire, in the woods, is part of the track because it reminds me of fun nights next to the fire with my friends or camping with my family, making s’mores. Basically, the sound just makes me feel nostalgic.
  5. The final sound I used is an old jeep running. I know it’s noisy and a lot of people probably think it’s annoying, but I used to drive a 1991 Jeep Wrangler. It sounded just like that and it was and still is my favorite thing to drive.

I hope you all enjoy, be sure to check out!

Recreate A Short Movie Using Only Sounds

My favorite movie, Saving Private Ryan, gave me the perfect opportunity to recreate a short movie only using sounds. I decided to use the Omaha Beach Scene!! Enjoy!

The sounds from heaven

Honestly, I saw this assignment and thought to myself, “Oh this would be easy to do.” I completely forgot how the only things that makes me happy is rain, food, and my two pets. The only sound that actually makes me feel just as happy as it’s presence is rain. For the rest: food crunching sounds weird, my puppy barks like a maniac, and when my hamster is chewing on food, it sounds like bones breaking. So yeah, not something I like to hear all the time! So the question became, what would my other sounds be?

I know I really all the natural sounds, like things that come from nature. That has always been something that calms me down even in my most stressful of times. I remember I used to fall asleep to ambient noise for months because of how calming it was, and it was the best thing to wake up to. So I found an audio clip of some ambient noise from outside with crickets, a fire pit doing it’s thing, and of rain and thunder (which I absolutely LOVE).

However, for my last sound, I picked something completely different. I decided to pick something I don’t normally listen to, but would love to hear regardless. And that was the ambiance of a synthesizer. It was honestly really nice to listen to, I thoroughly enjoyed the sound it made.

I then just put them all in Audacity, cut out parts of each sound so they were all roughly the same length, and made the beginning of each clip fade in and the end fade out. This wasn’t a difficult assignment to do, I feel that the most difficult part for me was finding and picking the sounds to be a part of this.

I hope you really like these sounds as much as I did!

Description: “To complete this assignment, pick 4-5 sounds that you enjoy hearing! Then, compile them into an audio file, and share!”

Sounds of My Life

3 Stars

For this assingment I had to record sound that I hear in my life on a regular basis. The first sound is my apartment door opening and hearing my roommate watching TV. The second sound is pages flipping in textbook and novels I have to read for my classes. The third sound is my personal favorite. Its my dog Scarlet snoring. Lastly, the fourth sound is typing. I spend a lot of time on my computer for classes as well as my jobs, so typing is a constant during my day.

My background noise came from Bensound. The hardest part of this assignment was figuring out what to include. There are constant noises going on around us, and its hard to pinpoint which ones are the most important to mention.

80’s Sounds

This assignment was a lot of fun I had to pick my favorite sounds and mash them up together to see what they made. I decided to pull in the 80’s theme here with my sounds. I included some engines that were from the 80’s and thought about what cities in different countries would sound like when before they became big cities so I was able to include different animal sounds as well.

I downloaded 5 sounds that make me feel good and put them into audacity edited them to fade in and out, silence different sections to give other sounds solos and mashed them all up together to come up with an about 30 second clip of pleasant 80’s sounds. The inspiration was definitely 80’s for me an thinking what kinds of things my parents heard growing up compared to what I knew growing up. This was a fun assignment that I enjoyed making and think I did a good job with because I am happy with how it turned out.

Favorite things

My favorite things are soccer, so i put the whistle, laughing because i like being happy, the beach waves cause it is my favorite place and birds because its calming. I made it on tiktok and uploaded it on youtube. Got the sounds off out freesounds.com AudioAssignments, Audi

Distorted Sounds

I was actually really excited about this assignment because I felt like it allowed me to learn more about Garageband, the app I am using for all audio assignments. For this 3.0-star assignment we were asked to
take a recognizable song or sound, and then turn it into a completely unrecognizable sound. Here is what I came up with, see if you can identify the original sound.

So were you able to figure it out? Well if you weren’t that’s good because the point was to make it unrecognizable! The original sound was actually two strokes on the guitar. I took the sound from Freesounds.org and then uploaded it to Garageband where I played around with the sound to make it distorted. Overall this assignment was kinda difficult to do because this was my first time really editing and playing around with a sound using Garageband, but I had a lot of fun creating different versions. Though, this one was my favorite.

Also, the story behind the picture on the soundcloud is something I recently did for another blog assignment in my digital arts class. I have been learning a ton about the digital world lately!

Recreate a short movie using only sounds

Take one of your favorite movies or scene from a movie and tell the story using sound effects! There can be no verbal communication, only sound effects! Record your own sounds, use audacity, or use websites that have pre-recorded sounds for you to download to create your audio movie. Post your ‘audio movie’ and share it with the class to see if they can guess what movie you are describing!
