Them Song of Olivia

The final assignment I chose was one that included my character for the semester. This assignment was the last 3 stars that I needed to complete the 10 stars for the week. The assignment was to find a theme song from a tv show, and explain how it can be about my character. I thought this would be good to better show the depth of the character. The theme song I had to choose was from Drake and Josh. The song is called I found a way. Here is the video so you can watch and get a feel for it.

So you can also read the lyrics, here they are:

[Verse 1]
Well, I never thought that it be so simple, but
I found a way, I found a way
And I always thought that it’d be too crazy, but
I found a way, I found a way
[Pre-Chorus]
If you open up your mind
See what’s inside
[Chorus]
It’s gonna take some time to realign
But if you look inside, I’m sure you’ll find
Over your shoulder you know that I told you
I’ll always be pickin’ you up when you’re down
So just turn around
[Verse 2]
Now that I know that anything’s possible
I found a way, I found a way
No one can break what is so unbreakable
I found a way, I found a way
[Pre-Chorus]
If you open up your mind
See what’s inside

[Chorus]
It’s gonna take some time, to realign
But if you look inside, I’m sure you’ll find
Over your shoulder you know that I told you
I’ll always be pickin’ you up when you’re down
So just turn around
[Verse 3]
No one cares
What you give
You know you gotta live like you wanna live
When it’s time
To be free
You know you gotta be what you wanna be
[Pre-Chorus]
If you open up your mind
See what’s inside
[Chorus]
It’s gonna take some time to realign
But if you look inside, I’m sure you’ll find
Over your shoulder you know that I told you
I’ll always be pickin’ you up when you’re down
So just turn around
Ooo

This song seems like it would speak to my character Olivia right away. It’s basically saying if you just actually look around and look at yourself, you have somebody who would do anything for you. It says that “I always thought I’d be too crazy” meaning he always thought something was wrong with him and people wouldn’t be friends with him. That’s the way Olivia feels. Even though she puts up this front that she thinks she is the best and everyone loves her, she actually thinks nobody does or ever will love/like her. It also says you need to live like you want to live not just live the way others want you to live. Olivia is always trying to do stuff that will make her parents happy and proud of her. But they have such high standards that most likely she will never be able to do either of those things.

Guile’s Theme Mash Up

For the last star in my Audio Assignments I decided to complete Going Halfsies. I used Guile’s Theme from Street Fighter 2 as my song of choice. The first half of my mash up is the original song while the second half is Smooth McGroove’s acapella version. The spot where I joined the two songs sounds a little rough but I couldn’t find a way to fix it. I really love this song, it goes with pretty much any action scene in any movie!

How to never fear again: REMIX A SONG W SPEECH

My theme song is a bit of a twist. I used logic pro x and garageband to create a beat, however in I Am Legend (the movie version of my book) Will Smith is the main character. There is this famous speech Will Smith gave that is this:

I used this speech embeded in my song to be more creepy and to put a twist on a narrative type of theme song for I Am Legend.

i edited beats within him speaking, and the goal was to make it creepy, but also fit the book.

I imagined this is the speech Robert Neville would give surviving the apocplse, which is why I decided to create a theme song type of remix on speech like this.

Check it out: it’s a bit long, but I think its cool:

Our Hero Needs Some Theme Music

For this 4.5 star assignment, I had to create a mixtape of songs. I chose to do this for our hero from the sound effect story. His music needed to be epic, telling that he is a hero worthy of being known. What had he done to earn his fame? Slayed monsters, saved princesses, or is his story one that is a little darker? A little more real. Human struggle tends to turn men into monsters, will our hero turn into a monster or continue to slay them? Let’s take a look at the songs.

I chose Ken Ken Ashcorp’s Ryder or Riot as the first song. It’s always had a fast paced feeling of “I can take on the world” just like our new hero feels.

Next is Glory and Gore by Lorde a song about exactly what it sounds, our hero makes a name as someone who can handle difficult situations that others would run from.

Third, we have some instrumental battle music with Incubus’ 1st Movement of the Odyssey, for all the times things start to kick off.

Fourth on the list is Breaking Benjamin’s Breakdown as our hero finds some of his ideals of the world broken and is thrust into a world a little darker and a lot more dangerous than he previously knew.

This new knowledge sends him to a dark place and he starts doing some things he’s not entirely sure are heroic, in our fifth entry we have Champion Sound by Ill Factor with its heavy beat.

Sixth is Dorothy with Wicked Ones and our hero meets up with some dangerous folks, but for good causes.

Our penultimate song is Human by Rag’nBone as the hero realizes that the world isn’t some ideal but that’s okay as he’s only human and he can only do so much.

Finally, we get to Hercules by Sara Bareilles and our hero sees that the world doesn’t have heroes to come save everyone and that more often then not you need to be your own hero, your own Hercules.

Our hero stays a man and not a monster, albeit with a little darker view of the world and how it operates. He’s made some friends along the way, not all nice people but not everyone is.

Assemblying this playlist was quite fun for me. I just thought about the story this adventurer would have. Where he would go and what he would do. From there, I went to youtube to find songs to fit with the flow of the story. I knew pretty much most of the songs that I wanted and so I added them all together and started bullet pointing his adventures. I hope you all enjoy.

Making a Song

For this assignment, I picked 5 of my favorite most current songs and combined them based on the themes. The song begins with talking about facing all your problems alone and trying to impress an ex, next it’s about being comfortable on your own without them, then it’s about not wanting to know what your ex has been doing, then it moves on to talking about how you still love them, and it ends with the person acknowledging that they don’t talk anymore and it how it isn’t worth it to continue on with them.

This assignment was so much fun . 5/5, would do again.

Ya like jazz (spy theme music)?

The Pink Bond, or the James Panther?

http://youtubedoubler.com/?video1=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dye8KvYKn9-0&start1=7&video2=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DHhHwnrlZRus&start2=1&authorName=Chris+Markham

So for this, I thought it would be fun to pick the two most cliche spy theme songs: James Bond and Pink Panther. Both had very similar sounds, which made them blend together pretty well. The two both have jazzy-sounding music, with the Bond one had a much higher temp and the Pink Panther being much more mellow and smooth. I think this has potential to be Our theme song for our radio show.

Name That Song!

Archives

For this assignment, we had to pick a song, take the lyrics out, and record a short (30 seconds or less) audio clip. The clip needed to be enough that people would be able to guess the song from it. I’ll be honest, a big part of why I chose this particular assignment is because it seemed like one of the few in this category that I was capable of doing. Not to give any hints, but I also thought it would be a good assignment to use to tie in the “mission106” theme!

The hardest part was trying to pick a song! Once I decided on the theme, it wasn’t too bad. I chose my song and proceeded to try and find an instrumental version on  YouTube(I’m sure there is a way to simply removes the words from the actual song but I’m just not that tech savvy!).

I ended up pulling the track up on my phone and playing it while I used SoundCloud on my computer to record the clip. I did end up recording a full 30 seconds because once I started it, I realized it might be a hard one to guess if you’ve never seen the movie that made it popular. In the end, I think it came out pretty well.

Here’s the finished product!

Name These Songs

For this assignment, I mashed together five songs into a 10 second slot. The real challenge is for you guys to name all of the songs (and artists)! Some of them should be pretty easy, but let’s see if you can get all of them!

This project was a lot of fun to make. I have become very fond of working with audio over the course of this semester, since it’s pretty easy to edit and rework. I downloaded most of these songs from YouTube using the MP3 Converter and uploaded them into Audacity, where I cut them down to fit in the requisite 10 seconds.

I tried to make the audio flow together pretty well, although most of these songs come from very different styles (except two, which I think will probably be the easiest to guess). I also went with kind of a theme to make the track make sense, which is pretty evident in the clip. So, while you should try to name the songs, also try to name the artists that go with each part! That makes it a little tougher. Have fun!

Marlene Got A Theme

For this assignment, you have to find your theme song. I decided that instead of doing mine, I would find Marlene her own song! I chose this song because it starts off kind of dark and mysterious and then gets fast paced, which is what Marlene’s life is doing now. When I introduced her, I mentioned that she works in a saloon and all that and alluded to something going on behind the scenes, but didn’t specify what. The plot thickened some in the sound effects story, so I thought a theme that followed these trends was only fitting. I used Audacity and added the violin to the song (from that free sound website) and played around a little with the guitar later on, but I thought for the most part, the theme was pretty spot on. Enjoy!

Name this song!

This audio assignment was worth three and a half stars contributing to the total 8 stars worth of audio assignments we had to complete this week. I chose to complete this assignment because I thought it seemed like a pretty fun idea. When songs come on the radio I like to guess what their title could be. So, I thought it would be extra challenging if someone had to guess a song if it was playing in reverse.

In order to complete this assignment I used the audio editing software called audacity. I imported the song I had chosen. I then used the select tool to highlight the file. Once the file was highlighted I was able to apply certain effects to make the song reversed. I was surprised at how different the song sounds in reverse. I found this assignment to be very useful because it allowed me to continue to work with audacity and learn how to create new and different effects.

Here are my three clues to this song:
1. It was the theme song for a major sporting event held in 2010.
2. It is a pop song.
3. It is a blend of Colombian rhythm and traditional African music

So here it is! Good luck!
