It had a bunch of different things going on while still having a sick beat to it. This is the kind of music I love! The … Continue reading “A Collection of my Favorite Sounds”

My Favorite Sounds: Peace and Animals

The third assignment I chose this week is to make an audio clip of my favorite sounds, choosing 4-5 sounds. This assignment is worth 2 stars.

This assignment was an interesting one as it caused my to wonder what my favorite sounds were, and think of the 4 that were my most favorite. First, since my recent vacation to the beach (as in the soundcloud post’s picture), I knew one of them had to be the ambient sound of waves crashing. There’s just nothing more relaxing than that, and it reminds me of vacations and being at peace. Next, I knew my other favorite was a cat purring, since I love my cats so much and hearing their happy purr when I pick them up always makes me happy and relaxes me. Similarly, I chose the sound of chicks chirping, which is a sound that also makes me happy because I used to have chicks and ducklings, whose chirping sounds the same. I loved those pets as well, and they were always cutest as chicks. Finally, i chose a more mundane sound, the pouring of morning coffee; the sound of it pouring is one I think is satisfying and I’m sure there are many other people who will agree that there’s nothing better than a good cup of coffee.

I used freesound.org to find all these sounds and then I edited them together in Audacity, adjusting their volumes so no one sound overpowered the other. I decided to use the ocean waves as a background noise for the other sounds, setting a peaceful tone. I think the final result shows my love of relaxing and my love of animals at the same time. I’d highly recommend this assignment, as it was one of the most fun audio assignments I’ve done.

My Four Favorite Sounds

This audio from the assignment bank is to pick some of our favorite sounds and put them into an audio file. I was able to get 2 stars from this assignment!

Here are 4 of my favorite sounds: Odd music, wind, glass shattering, faucet running.

My 5 Favorite Sounds

Here are 5 sounds that I like grouped together in one audio file.

Favorite Sounds

For this assignment, I immediately knew which sounds I was going to use.

I went to Freesounds.com and searched for a baby laughing, rain, waves, and a kitten purring. Once I had downloaded those sounds, I went into Audacity and placed the sounds to play one after the other.

This assignment was fairly easy, which means that I’m learning something! At the beginning of the week Audacity confused me so much, but now I have no problems using it.

A Collection Of Your Favorite Sounds

The refreshing sound of a carbonated beverage pour…

The satisfying noise of solid contact in baseball…

The sound of a good tee shot…

A crisp drink being opened in a can…

These are a few of my favorite things (sounds)

For another one of my picks out of the assignment bank I chose to do “A collection of your favorite sounds”. This one was super fun! I thought of a list of my favorite things and then what sounds I could use to portray them. I used a number of different free sound banks but the main one I used was ZapSplat. I used 5 favorite things: Coffee brewing, A dog barking, Rain, People Talking, and A WoodWick Candle Burning. I decided to use Garage Band since I was already familiar with overlapping sounds. I first recorded the sounds and then overlapped them. After this I exported it to SoundCloud. Here’s the finished product”

ā€œThese are a few of my favorite things!ā€ I mean, soundsā€¦

For this assignment we were tasked with coming up with 4-5 different sounds that we like hearing. These sounds also played hand in hand with sounds that are relaxing to me. A lot of wind instruments always seem to relax me. I also love being outside so I only found it fitting to include some birds chirping. If you listen closely you can also hear a faint harp. There is also come piano playing in there as well. Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment mainly because I was relaxed through the whole thing. Which is a first for an assignment in college. One final thing. Can you all guess the origin of my title? It is part of a movie the part in quotations.

ā€œThese Are A Few of My Favoriteā€ā€¦ Sounds!

For this assignment from the assignment bank, I was to create an audio recording of four or five of my favorite sounds. This really got me thinking because I’ve never really thought about what sounds I actually like. I know what sounds IĀ don’tĀ like because every time I hear them I want to either pull my hair out or scream. Some of these are: nails on a chalkboard, metal scraping against metal (or a fork scraping loudly across a plate), fire alarms, alarm clocks, and so many more! As you can tell, I’m kind of picky and a lot of sounds tend to set me off.

This assignment was fun because I could think about different things that I like to hear! You don’t really realize it but sounds are constantly being created. Right now, I’m listening to music in my headphones and I’m listening to my fingers tap on the keys of my keyboard as I type this post. I finally came up with some sounds that I think are nice or comforting to listen to. I was able to go to freesound.org and find each sound I included. At the end of the recording, I combined all five sounds together as an “experiment” to see what it would sound like. To be honest, I felt like a child mixing everything I could find into one container and then shaking it up! You can hear each sound clearly in my recording, but just in case it’s difficult to decipher what each sound is, I’ve listed them below!

1st sound: Thunderstorm

2nd sound: A summer night outside

3rd sound: A cat purring

4th sound: A car driving down the road

5th sound: Someone playing the piano

I don’t know if you agree with my choices of sounds, but let me know if you also like listening to some or all of these, too! Let me know what you think!!

BEHIND THE SCENES OF THIS POST:

For this assignment, I really had to think about what sounds I like to listen to. It was difficult because I realized that I don’t stop to think about sounds that I like, but I do love music.

I went to freesound.orgĀ Ā and found numerous sound effects or recordings that were free and available for me to use them in this project. Once I compiled some of my favorite sounds, I used Audacity to combine them all together into one recording. I tried to leave some of the recordings in their original full-length to give the full “effect.” However, one of them I had to trim down quite a bit because it was almost half-an-hour long. This was a lot of fun to do and I hope to get to do it again in the future!
