At Least It’s an Ethos

Take the line from the film The Big Lebowski “Say what you will about National Socialism, Dude, at least it’s an ethos” and change National Socialism to a different -ism, like, for example, [[Veganism]]. Here is the GIF for you to use as a template to change National Socialism to a different -ism. Now here’s the trick, after that you need a GIF to setup the punchline. So Walter Sobchack is referring to Nihilism in the scene we are quoting when defining National Socialism as an ethos, my idea for this (now convoluted) assignment came from Tom Woodward’s unsettling animated GIF of me eating Roy Rogers chicken, which could only lead me to the following punchline…

Sound Scapes

Compose a sound piece using only found sounds. Edit and mix the piece on any sound editing equipment and upload to soundcloud.

Sardonic Mashups

The concept is to mashup something along the lines of a public apology, a commercial, a pandering politcial speech or anything you’d like to mock for the public good.

Here are the steps-

1. Pull the audio as an mp3 from YouTube using Zamzar or something similar.

2. Import it into audacity or any audio mixer you have

3. Import the music you want to layer behind the audio

4. Edit to taste

5. Upload to soundcloud

6. Share the link

Graphic Gift

Find or scan an old advertisement (high resolution) and create a piece of cool clip art by extracting and cleaning up a particular element. Be sure to use a PNG file type to preserve transparencies, and try to make a high and medium resolution version. Inspired by Phil A Go’s awesome Toyota Corona Graphic Gift.

Movie Book Cover

Movies are often based on books. Not this time. Design a book cover that is based on a movie. DO NOT use an image of the actor/s. Try to find or create imagery that captures the essence of the movie without using the actor’s picture.
