Animated GIF Assignment: Sports Heroes

Kobe Bryant

This GIF is simply of one of my Sports Heroes, who is no longer here with us, Kobe Bryant. In many people’s eyes, he is a legend and a basketball icon . This GIF is meaningful, because being a basketball player myself, it sort of hits home. My first ever real basketball jersey was a Kobe Bryant jersey, when he played for the Los Angelos Lakers. He a wore the number, 24, which was my number when I played basketball in high school. From his foundations, basketball academy in California, to his highly rated sneakers, he has made a great impact on the world. Even if people do not care for basketball, they have some type of knowledge on who Kobe Bryant is. This process is was very fun, I like to make GIFs and especially for these type of assignments. I think this also, allows me to become more comfortable with this form of digital art. I did not think about digital creativity in a form of a gif, until this class. I think creating these GIFs, will be useful in future endeavors as well.

Michael Jordan Game Winner GIF

Sport Hero GIF Assignment: “Make a GIF of your favorite sports hero!”

My GIF: Michael Jordan Game Winner GIF

The Story

Michael Jordan has and still is my favorite sports player. Growing up as a kid I would tie my shoes everyday and whisper to myself “Make me like Mike”. When shooting the basketball in my front yard I would count down from five and shoot a fade away shot as if it was a game winning shot. Michael Jordan was always known for always hitting game winning shots at the last second. I would watch highlights of him and try to always reenact them. I would have to lower my basketball hoop to do the dunks. This GIF captures my sport’s hero in a nutshell.

The Process, Narrated

Right from the beginning I knew I was going to use Michael Jordan as my sport hero. I wanted to pick a video of him hitting a game winner and I found this one to be the best. To make this GIF I first found a website called Make A GIF and it allowed me to easily make a GIF. First I uploaded my video from Youtube to the GIF. It allowed me to change how long the GIF was with a max of five seconds. It also allowed me to change where the start and end time was. For my GIF I picked to start at twenty-six seconds and end at thirty-one seconds.

Peyton Manning Keep away!

For this Gif Assignment, we had to make a gif of a sports hero. I chose Peyton Manning because I am huge broncos fan.  There was one moment I remembered in particular from this past NFL Season.  It was when Peyton Manning broke the record for touchdowns.  He reached 509 tds, and that was only 4 games in.  This was against the San Francisco 49ers.  After the touchdown, his teammates decided to play keep away with the record-setting ball.  It was actually quite funny.

What I learned from this assignment is that gifs really aren’t my forte.  I think I have Gimp set up, but not all the way or something.  It is quite confusing.  So while I try to figure it out and understand it, I just googled online gif makers.  That was fairly easy, but when you embed it, it doesn’t animate.  So I posted the link where it is in motion.  What I did was went to youtube and googled Peyton Manning Highlights, or something along the lines of his record, and found a perfect part of the video. I made it about 5 seconds long.
