You Wrote Me?!!

I decided to do a 4 star assignment entitled Line Remix. The assignment was to

Take a famous line from a movie and remix it. to create an entirely new story from just this one line. Get creative, but make sure to have a good balance between what you add and keep to make sure that the line is still regonizable, but tells the story completly differently.

I started my downloading a YouTube video of The Notebook Kissing Scene. I thought it would be funny to take the scene where Noah tells Ally he wrote her and change it into more of a stalkerish feel, than a romantic one.

I then converted the YouTube video to an MP3 using a YouTube converter. This will allow me to better manipulate the different sound in the video. This is also how you get a video from YouTube to Audacity. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this for so long and then my roommate said why don’t you just use a converter

NB 2

I then uploaded the mp3 to Audacity.

NB 3

In order to remove the background noise (rain and music) I used Noise Reduction. That left me with a very quiet audio as you can see in the wave lengths below.

NB 4

Then I used the Amplify tool to make the audio louder. You can only amplify it so loud. So like below the OK button is faded and you can’t click it because the amplification is too high.

NB 5

After amplifying the a=wavelengths were a lot bigger as you can see below.

NB 6

I then cut the empty spaces out so there wasn’t long dramatic breaks. I feel like long dramatic breaks work better for the romantic feel where when your scared it’s shorter sentences and shorter breaks in between. Below you can see the difference in the length compared to above. I did this by selecting a section and then pressing delete. You have to make sure that the file is stopped and not running in order to delete or do any effects to do any alterations to the file.

NB 7

I wanted Noah to sound scarier and Allie to sound more shocked so I changed the speed, pitch, and tempo.

NB 8NB 9NB 10

I also played around with Equalization tool. This allowed me to change different points within a selected amount of the audio clip and change the dB and a certain Hz. This tool was very helpful in changing the way the sentences were said.

NB 11

I decided to check out some of the blogs while doing this assignment and found that most people just rearranged the words and made different sentences using some of the same words. This seemed easier than what I was doing of trying to change the tone of their voices. I looked at a Mean Girls, Princess Diaries, and She’s the Man one and they all did this. There rearrangements were very funny!

I would have kept the same line:

Young Noah: I wrote you 365 letters. I wrote you everyday for a year.
Young Allie: You wrote me?
Young Noah: Yes… it wasn’t over, it still isn’t over.

If I had done it this way I would have remixed the line to:

Young Noah: I watched you 365 times. I watched you everyday for a year.

Young Allie : You watched me?

Young Noah: Yes… it wasn’t over, it still isn’t over.

Double Bogey

As the title implies, this is actually a double-feature of sorts, considering I had two separate, yet equally powerful takes of one line, and if you know the name associated with the second half of this entry’s title, then allow me to congratulate you for actually knowing something about movies that can’t be relegated to the pages of TV Tropes.

Admittedly, though, I never actually saw Casablanca. I wasn’t even a gleam in one of my grandparent’s eyes when the film came out in 1942, although I have heard several of the its lines in passing over the years, to the point that I now know for a fact that no one in that movie ever really said the words, “Play it again, Sam.”

This brings us to a four-star Audio Assignment, that I took during my mid-term period, wherein I had to do the following:

Take a famous line from a movie and remix it to create an entirely new story from just this one line. Get creative, but make sure to have a good balance between what you add and keep to make sure that the line is still recognizable, but tells the story completely differently.

The line I selected was the final line uttered by Humphrey Bogart’s character, Rick Blaine, as he and Captain Louis Renault, played by Claude Rains, walk off into the fog: “Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” As for my remix, well, allow me to point out that the film took place between the 2nd and 5th of December, in 1941. Guess what happened later that week.

Suffice it to say, I think my edits to the quote have painted a far more dramatic picture in the original’s place, so I’ll just let you know that both of these entries are available for your listening and dancing pleasure, on SoundCloud.

Mean Girls Remixed

I got super excited as I was scrolling through the assignment bank and found this! Basically, the assignment is to take a famous line from a movie, tweak it only a little bit so that it’s still recognizable, and rerecord it. So naturally, I went scrolling through all the Mean Girls quotes I could find. It’s looking like every week here I’ll be doing something with Mean Girls (I just love it that much).

Anyhoo, I settled on the quote:

“Get in loser, we’re going shopping!”

Here’s the original recording of the quote to refresh your memories!

I decided to change the quote up a little, and settled on:

“Get in the car Cady, we’re going shopping!”

Even though I love all of the original quotes from the movie (let’s be real, it wouldn’t be the same without them) I still decided to go ahead and make this one a little nicer. Maybe Regina George is kind of sweet after all? Hehehe definitely not. But anyways, here’s the remixed recording!

The making of this assignment was really quite simple! First, I downloaded a quote from www.moviesoundclips.net and uploaded it to my Soundcloud, so that I could present the original. Next, I came up with a new version of the quote I chose. Lastly, I recorded myself saying the new quote, as a nicer version of Regina George. That’s all for this assignment!

The Smallest Change Can Make The Biggest Difference // 3 Stars

I chose an assignment this week that is very inspirational. Many of us look to quotes from movies to remind us of inspiring moments or to help us in our own lives. Well we remixed a famous one here that will tell a bit of a different story than the original. I hope you enjoy it and see the resemblance.

“I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I’ve ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life.”
? Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

The copy for the sound clip above – “I love you. I am who I am because of you. But you are every reason, every fear, and every nightmare I’ve ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are apart is the greatest day of my life. ”

Please enjoy and let me know what you think in the comments below. Again the photo was taken from wikimedia through Google Images’ “labeled for reuse” filter.

Assignment Bank: REMIX! “I have a lot of money”

For my third audio assignment this week, I decided to do a line remix worth 3 stars!

“Take a famous line from a movie and remix it to create an entirely new story from just this one line. Get creative, but make sure to have a good balance between what you add and keep to make sure that the line is still recognizable, but tells the story completely differently.”

I think most of us at least know that “Taken” exists, even if you’ve never watched it. Liam Neeson is FAMOUS for his role as the kick-ass ex-operative who risks his life and destroys Paris to save his daughter. There are also two additional spins-offs as a result of his time in the City of Love. I picked this line because it’s the defining point of the entire franchise; his daughter has been kidnapped and he must decide what he’s going to do.

The task was to create an entirely new story using this one line, and by stating that he has money and no skill, I most definitely did just that. Creating this was as easy as googling which movie quotes were the most famous, picking my movie, and opening up audacity to record myself saying it. I was able to get it perfect in one shot, export it to my computer and upload it to soundcloud for your enjoyment here.

Happy Storytelling!

Princess Diaries Remixed

For this assignment (worth 3 stars), we were asked to use a quote from a movie and remix it to create a completely new story line.

When I was looking at assignments to do, I came across this one and it caught my eye immediately.  I saw the image of Buddy the Elf as the cover for the assignment and I knew it was going to be fun.  Elf is one of the most iconic movies of our generation and I was excited about this assignment before even knowing what it was going to ask us to do.

To be honest, I thought this assignment was going to be easy but I was quickly mistaken.  I went back and forth debating on what movie I should use.  I googled “most quoted movies” and a lot of good movies came up.  I wanted to do a movie that everyone was familiar with and had good quotes, so I chose Forrest Gump.  I created a remixed version of “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.”  However, I looked back at the instructions and my recording didn’t follow the prompt.  I decided to scratch that recording and start fresh.  I couldn’t think of anything clever with Forrest Gump, so I decided to look for a new movie to quote.  I went back to google and searched for “teen movies from 2000″ – those were the movies that I knew best.  I scrolled through a list from Buzzfeed and found the perfect movie – The Princess Diaries.  I don’t know how I didn’t think about using this one because it is one of my favorite movies of all time!  I went back to google and searched “princess diaries quotes” and found this site.  I scrolled through until I found a quote that stood out to me.  I wrote down the quote and thought, “what if I change it to make it seem like Mia was a bad person?”  Then a light bulb went off in my head, “Mia is going to dethrone the queen!”  I got really excited because I knew this was going to work.

To do this, I used SoundCloud to record my altered quote.  I googled a picture of The Princess Diaries and uploaded it as the image for my recording.

Here is the original quote:

“Dear Diary, today is my first official day as Princess of Genovia. We’ll land in a few hours, and I’ll meet Parliament and the people before beginning my royal duties.”

-Mia Thermopolis

My version:

“Dear Diary, today is my first official day as Princess of Genovia. We’ll land in a few hours, and I’ll meet Parliament and the people before I begin creating my plan to dethrone the queen.”

-Victoria Le

Re-re-re..REMIX!

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/line-remix/ (3 stars)

I did this assignment because my favorite movie is Elf and I love the buddy the Elf and everything that he stands for. My favorite holiday is also Christmas and I love love Christmas movies and everything about them. I used the famous quote “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing aloud for all to hear” in order to do my assignment, but changed the words a little bit. I changed them to what I did because I cannot sing for the life of me and so I don’t really think I would be spreading Christmas cheer with my singing, but when it comes to cookies, they make people smile and puts them in good spirits!

Line Remix

This assignment is worth 3 stars, It is one o my favorite audio assignments. It is about picking a line from a famous movie or show and remix it. This line is one of my best lines. Not only funny but inspiring. I like how it takes me out of my sad mood and makes me happy. I hope you can recall this line from How I met your mother. The line was one of barny’s famous quotes.

You Talkin’ to Him?

This is the line remix assignment, worth 3 points.

This idea immediately came to mind when I read the assignment. It’s a pretty natural transition that sounds surprisingly similar to the original.
