Ds 106 bumper

Ds106 bumper by Collin Gayle

This is my Ds106 radio bumper, for this I used universal studio intro to add a grand feel. When people hear ( Universal Studio ) they think big and spectacular so I wanted to bring accross that idea with DS106 radio. I also added the ( forever song by  Drake ) so because that was a very popular song which is recognized as outstanding. At the end I wanted something loud and hardcore so I added the ( MGM lion ), which is also very popular.

DS106 Radio Is The Thriller!

Preparing for the Monday’s Halloween themed ds106radio event, “The Horrors of Education,” I created this Vincent Priced themed ds106 radio bumper sticker and bumper. Looking forward to here your most scary experiences in education, as well as any other spooky stuff you can think of.

SoundCloud, Audacity, and Android 106

I’m really excited about the audio unit, even if I’m getting to it a little late.  I think it might be because I really love audacity. It’s a wonderful program that allows even those with no experience in music to make some very interesting audio projects.  For my first assignment, I started out simple with a ds106 radio bumper. Now, some background: for the group radio show, my character is Android 106, a sapient android of mysterious origin. I like the perceived personality I’ve given him in my mind, and I want it to shine through in ds106 in a broader way than within the confines of the radio show assignment. So I decided to make a bumper using Android 106. For more details on how I synthesized his voice, see my previous post on using eSpeak.

I used freesound.org to get the sound effect at the end. Using Audacity, I edited the laser gun sound at the end with a fade out and .5 second echo effect with .25 decay rate. Click here for the original sound.

I’m also very pleased with the ease with which I was able to register and use SoundCloud. It’s all very intuitive. I like that.

Black Ship Radio by loumcgill
As a family we are working on a radio show for the ds106 digital storytelling course. Our first task was to create two (one 30 second and one 1 minute) ‘radio bumpers’. Here are ours.

It involved a lot of laughing and some bribery, but we have all recorded bits for it. We are doing a pirate radio show – under the banner of Black Ship Radio – radio by pirates for pirates.

I have stayed up till 2.30 on Friday evening/Saturday morning to get them in by the deadline. My perfectionism has been my downfall again and I can still hear a couple of errors but just need to get them finished. I’m fairly pleased with the final outcomes though – the boys are both in bed so haven’t heard them yet. I wanted to set a fairly mellow tone so used summertime by ella fitzgerald for the short one and the young rascals for the longer one, with a bit of the sex pistols thrown in.

I was very wary of doing the audio assignments, but they have been fun and great to do collaboratively. I would probably put audacity up there as one of my favourite tools right now. I am hooked and plan to do some more mixing and playing.

However this weekend we’ll be busy finishing building a polytunnel and producing a radio show. Yikes as scooby says…

Audio Assignment – DS106 Radio Bumper

DS106radioBumper by edrummon

Using audacity again, for the radio bumper I threw in some static around the different song clips and tried to put in “DS106 for life” in the end using different parts of songs for each word (jim groom for “DS106″). The beginning is kind of hard to hear though might have to turn up your volume! Sounds used were:

Static by Jace
ds106tv 7-5-11 by rushaw (used jim groom’s voice)
Won’t Back Down by Eminem (feat. Pink)
Caffeine by Dillinger Escape Plan
Young Forever by Jay-Z (feat. Mr. Hudson)
25 to Life by Eminem (feat. )

DS106 Radio Bumper, Students

I made a #ds106 radio bumper, my first (already have an idea for the second)!

I kind of cheated, because most of the audio was recorded and mixed by a professional at a real studio back in 2001 (backstory and original audio clip here). Incidentally that was before I ever became a teacher. I don’t ever really sound like that in a college classroom.

All I did was drag that mp3 into a new GarageBand project, plug in my USB mic, and record myself saying “listen to your ds106 radio” on a new vocal track. To get the echo I added the Vocal Reflection to the recorded track. Then it was as simple as selecting Share > Send to iTunes from the menu bar. Since I had pre-set iTunes to import audio as a 64-bit stereo mp3, that’s what I got. In iTunes, I right-clicked the new file and chose Reveal in Finder, dragged it to my desktop and uploaded it at http://www.dropitto.me/ds106. I’ll be stoked if I actually hear it on #ds106radio!

Babycakes, Babycakes, Babycakes

I made this bumper for DS106 radio around the time of our audio projects, but had forgotten about it until my friend who did the voice for it, Gigi, reminded me.

The background music is from freesoundproject.org.  I wrote the link down somewhere, but can’t find it. :/

DS106 Radio Gaga

I had the idea last night to create a Lady Gaga-themed DS106 Radio bumper for this audio assignment, and here’s the finished product.

I used clips of Lady Gaga speaking at the National Equality March in 2009, at the Monster Ball Tour in Toronto, as well as the “Pop Ate My Heart” intro from the Fame Ball Tour, and these songs:

  • “Dance in the Dark”
  • “Starstruck” (Demo)
  • “Speechless”
  • “Just Dance”
  • “Poker Face”
  • “Bad Romance”
  • “Paparazzi”

I used Audacity again and it was a lot of fun to make. What do you think?

UPDATE: Here’s the extended version of the bumper featuring a promo for our DS106 radio show airing Sunday at noon.

Force of Nature Radio Bumper

So, I made a radio bumper for ds106 radio out of an episode of star trek tng and a song and the google translator voice.

(Also, incidentally, I just added the wp audioplayer plugin to get that thing above this)

I think there is an easier way to grab audio from a youtube video, or at least there used to be, but I ran it out of the headphone jack on my laptop and through a usb pre-amp and recorded it into adobe audition (My preferred audio editor. could have used any audio editing program, audacity, etc.). The episode is “Force of Nature”

I added the rockin’ heavy distorted beginning of Broken Water‘s “Say What’s on Your Mind.”

I also used google translator‘s voice option for the ds106 station identification.
Fun tip: you can use the link below and add whatever you want it to say to the end, using a + to separate each word, then email the link to yourself and download the file as an mp3. (eg. http://translate.google.com/translate_tts?tl=en&q=Jim+Groom,+What+Jim+Groom?+Jim+Groom+Jim+Groom )
