Assignment Bank: Menu Design

Back in the 1980’s, personal computers did not have a graphical user interface, but instead had users type directly into the console. The assignment was to create an interface/menu, and this does so by recreating a typical 1980’s personal computer interface. I made it in MS paint by typing text in the Fixedsys font, which is not often used and looks archaic. As a computer programming major, I’m fascinated by computer technology, going from huge bulky machines covering walls to portable devices which can fit in pockets, and the 1980’s was an important era for introducing the personal computer, which are now used every day.

Menu and Valentine’s Placeholder

Here is my menu so far, scroll down for an original spin. Decided I would start off by listing my favorite foods: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1z3_9rcDU8jqq4_AGPnykK08ZH_ojOyCTdwayj3apGBM/edit?usp=sharing

Excited to edit this in the near future!

Planning on making some meme Valentine’s and 80s ones, too.

Personal Menu

Directions: ” For this assignment, you are going to design your own menu! You can use any layout software (I used InDesign) but anything will work .”

Behind the Story:

Narrating the Process:

The Mad Hatter

How about a menu like none other? The cards will give you the prices! Too bad it is not for real, as I would definitely try the Braised Beef, Queen’s Tarts and Absinthe.

Menu

Filled with all of my favorite dishes, this is what I would serve, if I had a restaurant.

Design Assignment

Looking around at some of the design assignments, I saw one about menu design. This got me thinking about a long backlogged personal project of mine, developing my own blogging platform. This was a good reason to get started! Here’s some progress I made on the main site menu bar. The slide out search bar is a personal point of pride.
