My first mash up assignment I tackled this week was “I’m Ready for My Close Up.” I took a picture of my oldest and cropped it, used a filter, and adjusted the brightness to make it match the stone of Mt. Rushmore in the photo. I used Canva to put the two photos together, and then adjusted the transparency of my son’s picture to make it blend even more! I’m really excited with how this turned out! I tweeted the final product and embedded it below!

I’m Ready For My Closeup

With this assignment, I took 2 unrelated images and combined them using a superimpose app. I used a picture of Kim Kardashian’s face and I put it in place of a baby’s crying face. I had to put the background up and then take the second picture, cut it out, and put it in place.

I took James Bond and superimposed him with the background of an ocean wave. That is pretty ridiculous. My inspiration for this image is of course our spy theme in the class.

This assignment wasn’t as difficult as the last one. I am starting to get the hang of editing photos in gimp and using layers.

Assignment

Close Ups Are Awkward

This assignment, found here, is worth four stars and required me to use a dramatic close up of someone’s face, and then place it over a scene or landscape. Here is what I came up with.

Some people may recognize this face, but if you don’t it’s ok. This is the face of the ultra violence. This face is from the movie A Clockwork Orange, by Stanley Kubrick, and it belongs to a man named Alex. Alex and his gang of droogs go around and commit terrible atrocities, thus the name ultra violence.

It only seemed fitting to place his face over an image of flames, as he is an evil human being. Fire is often used as a symbol for pain and death so it was appropriate. It could be said that he also carries within him a burning passion for violence.

Like all the other images I manipulated I used GIMP. I took a photo of Alex and pasted his face over the fire. I then resized his face, cropped the image so it looked proportional, and then blended the corners of his shoulders so that it didn’t look so forced.

Hugh Jackman Really Hates Ducklings

The concept behind this Ready For My Closeup assignment was to take a closeup of someone’s face and put it together with something that contrasts with what their face is suggesting. In this one, I made it look like Hugh Jackman really hates ducklings.

I used Photoshop to paste Hugh Jackman’s face over a stock photo of some grass. All the ducklings in the background are from separate pictures of ducklings in grass that I added in. To make sure they blended in to the picture, I used the eraser tool and the opacity tool to make the edges as close as possible. I also adjusted the color and saturation to make sure the different grasses in the pictures matched the background grass picture I used.

Mac, Where are you?

For one of the mash up assignment, I decided to the Im Ready for my closeup, which is rated 4 stars.

I had a lot of inspiration for this one, I knew I wanted to incorporate my spy, mac into it but I didn’t know how. At first, I blew up her face and put it on the moon, but that didn’t make any sense, why would she be on the moon?  I worked with my moon inspiration and decided to have her in space, and then had the fantastic idea of putting her on a spaceship.

Here is my final product. Agent Mac on her 3rd mission, they sent her to space and she had to fight the evil aliens that were trying to attack earth. She wasn’t pleased (neither was patrick) this was NOT in her job description.

I’m Ready For My Closeup

In making this assignment, I learned more about Canva that I didn’t know about. I wasn’t aware I could crop and alter the transparency of images, which was exactly what I needed to do for this assignment. I took one of the most iconic spies of our generation, Carmen Cortez of Spy Kids, and superimposed her on the movie poster of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. While the two movies don’t share any characters, comparisons have been drawn between the two so much that some theorize that the two movies share a universe together. Here, Carmen is discovering the two superheros and is clearly not interested in making friends with them. Maybe she thinks Taylor Lautner is cute and is jealous of Lavagirl.

The first assignment I did for the mashup category was called I’m ready for My Closeup and is worth four stars. For this assignment I had to layer two images over each other and one had to be a closeup of someone and the other had to be a landscape. I chose to use http://pixlr.com/editor/ to edit the pictures together because I had never used it before and wanted to try it. I found a picture of Ginny from Harry Potter that I thought was a funny close up and a nice landscape and layered them together to make a closeup. I think it turned out really well and I enjoyed learning how to use pixlr for the first time.

Disaster and Impossible

For 4 stars I did the Ready for my close up mash up. I’ve been going real strong this week with keeping assignments on theme for the class so I wanted to continue with that trend.

So I know that this picture has been used a lot since it turned into a meme but I wanted to use the so called disaster girl photo as my reference for a close up. The picture is well known because of her expression which looks menacing and made people assume she started the fire. (She didn’t the photo has an article all about the image’s context and history.)

So even though it has been referenced by different people I thought I could do something pretty cool with it so I decided to. I brought this image into GIMP and cut out the girl then erased around her any left over pixels so she stood alone. Here I was cleaning up the pixels in the process of editing it.

I next thought about what to put behind her. I wanted something spy themed again to stay on topic with how close I have been doing this week. I also wanted something explosion related because it connected back to the origin of the original image but twisted it in a new way. I decided to go with an explosion scene from the 3rd Mission Impossible film. (Yes I have used mission impossible films a few times over the course of this semester but so far I have tried to avoid repeats since there are 5 films.) I went with this dramatic image.

Next I brought the image into GIMP I cropped out the black lines and rescaled the image so that it fit better into the way I was setting it all up. I also had to figure out where to put the girl. I decided to scale her down and keep her in the bottom right corner so that she seemed to be behind the car. This way she would be theoretically kinda shielded by the car and able to actually be turning back not looking as concerned as she should have been. It also didn’t break up the scene as much and left the context of the explosion.

So with this image I decided that the story behind it was that the young girl had played a role in the explosion being set off.  Getting out of another car out of frame but on the road she was looking to admire her part in the explosion and turned around to get away from the impending chaos.

Agent Smith – Close up

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/im-ready-for-my-closeup/ (4 stars) [4/12]

Greetings…fellow agents. I had some extra time on my hands so I did a mashup of one of my favorite shows….Breaking Bad. I took saul goodman and mashed it with meth images (from the show) and he’s thinking about whether to help Walter White with his criminal empire or just look out for himself.

Saul: I’m pondering whether to help you or not. On one hand, you threatened my life by trying to kill me before you coughed too much and I realized who you were. On the other….that will be a lot of money you’re making that you need laundering so…tough decision.
