Dear 16 Year Old Me

For this assignment, I was tasked with giving advice to my 16 year old self. When I was 16, I was in the beginning of my senior year of high school. I remember during this time, I was struggling (mentally). I was also so worried about what others thought of me and I was trying to keep this perfect image. I was never allowed to really let go and be free and it also took me a very long time to find peace with myself and to eventually love myself. So, I channeled what I was thinking and wrote myself a little script and found a quote that I thought was encouraging but let me know what you think or advice that you would give yourself at 16.

Advice to 16 year old self

I decided to do an assignment giving advice to myself back when I was 16. My life was different and I have already learned a lot in a few short years. This assignment was make a video speaking to younger self for 2 stars.

I had this inspiration thinking back to all the things I did when I was 16 and some of the decisions I made. I thought it would be fun to make a video with advice to help myself if I could go back in time. I enjoyed the project and thought I did a good job giving advice and showing some of my life through pictures I could get my hands on relatively quickly. I hope everyone enjoys the little bits of advice I give myself.

I made this video using pictures off of my social media accounts, and pictures I have downloaded to my computer. I imported all pictures into my photos app and arranged them how I wanted them. I used audacity to mix some songs together than exported that as a mp3 file to upload to my photos app. I also got to play around a little bit with different motions of the pictures, the 3-d effects and text with the pictures. I had fun exploring the new Window Movie Maker app.

Dear Old Elaina

Okay…so this assignment was really important to me. This video is super sappy and might make u cry lowkey bc i cried but i really wanted to give my all for this project. Here’s my video:

Dear Amanda

For one of my assignment bank assignments this week I chose to complete “Sixteen Year Old Me” where I gave advice to the 16 year old me. I did modify the assignment somewhat by choosing to give advice to my 17 year old self. That year in my life was pivotal and  I struggled to find a path to go down in life knowing that I was having a baby and needed to consider more than just myself.

I used Microsoft Movie Maker to record myself and added some background music to give the opening title and credits a bit more interest. I used Christina Aguilera’s On Our Way from her Back to Basics album because I liked the message it was delivered and thought it complimented the advice I had for my 17 year old self.

Advice to my Teen Self

I decided to do the Sixteen Year Old Me video assignment. This assignment allowed me to reflect on/deal with some of the things I was experiencing when I was younger. Teen Ashleigh was generally shy, extremely anxious, and she missed out on a lot of opportunities simply because she had very low self-esteem. Since I don’t usually take the time to think about how far I’ve come, making this video definitely got me in my feelings.

I wrote all my thoughts down and formed a brief yet meaningful letter. I went through tons of old pictures and collected a handful, which I imported into Windows Movie Maker. I tried to arrange them in chronological order to tell more of a story, beginning the video with images from my 16th birthday and ending with one that was taken only a month before my 17th birthday. I also tried to arrange the photos in a way that somewhat corresponded with the topics I covered in my letter.

I recorded my script in Audacity so I could adjust the quality and volume of the audio. When I was finished, I imported my narration into movie maker. I added background music that suited the introspective tone of my video, I adjusted the duration of clips to match the script, and then added the title and credits. When I was finished, I saved my project and uploaded it to YouTube.

Advice to My Younger Self

For mt next assignment I chose to give advice to my younger self with this 4.5 star assignment. Technically this assignment said sixteen year old self, but I decided to make it a little more general.

I chose a Polaroid theme with post-it notes to describe my more introverted childhood and the message of my video. Although Polaroids were not the normal form of photography when this pictures were taken, I feel that it helps portray the idea of going back in time to a different me. I ordered the photos so that they went from youngest to most recent with the last image being from Relay my Freshman year of college (May 2015). Relay was a big step out of my comfort zone and I thought it was a good representation of what I wish I had when I was younger. My advice was to be more outgoing and to stop overthinking. Since coming to college I have gotten better about stepping out of my comfort zone, but maybe if I had started working on being less of an introvert when I was younger then I would be more comfortable now. I did small things when I was in high school, but I feel that I could have done more. I have always been overly worried and that has kept me from trying many things in life. So not only is this advice I would like to give to my younger self, but it is advice that I give myself every day as I work on becoming a happier me.

16 Year Old Me Video

The first video assignment I completed this week was worth 4 1/2 stars and was called Sixteen Year Old Me. I chose this assignment because I think these kinds of assignments are really applicable to life. I love looking back and learning from my mistakes, and I feel like that is really what this assignment is about.

To complete this assignment I used the video editing program iMovie! I first wrote my script so I knew what path my video would take. Then once I had my script written I then inputted the images that helped to tell my story. Then I went back in and added some music, transitions, and text to help complete the story. Lastly, I recored a voice memo using the iPhone app and added the voice over onto my video. Then I shared my project to youtube! I hope you enjoy my video of advice to my 16 year old self!

Talking to 16-year old Fidget Spinner

For this assignment, I had to talk to a 16 year old fidget spinner. The fidget spinner was created in 1993, so 16 year old fidget spinner would put it in 2009. So, here in the year 2017, the fidget spinner would be 24. In the video I did, I discussed with 16 year old fidget about their rise to fame in 2017 and then the rather quick decline. I prepared them for this vast emotional roller coaster that is ahead. I did this through photo booth and then exported it and uploaded it. This is a 4 1/2 star assignment.

Talking to a 16 year old Mikey

For this video assignment, I did the Sixteen Year Old Me assignment. I had to address a 16 year old Mikey on his life and what to be prepared for in the future. I started off by addressing his core values at the time, what was the most prevalent things to meet at 16, those were baseball, god and my family. I began by giving him ideas on how to improve at baseball and focus more, that he needs to stay after for practice and focus more, put my heart and effort into it. I then tell him to keep his focus on christ, don’t lose it, the lord is always there for you. Then, I bring up college time, how he needs to stay focused and that Mary Washington is the best choice for him and give him some pointers. I tell him, how here I am in what is technically my finals week, seeing as this course is ending soon and I am to officially graduate at the end of it. With that being said, I have been through it all, I know what he needs to do to be succesful and not doing some of the things I did, is a good step in that direction. At the end of it, I wrap it by telling him to get close to Dean Rucker earlier than I even did and to keep an eye out on my little brother, who’s a bit of a trouble maker.

This assignment certainly means a lot to me, because it’s actually a video I wish I could send to a 16-year old me. There’s a lot of things, I know now, that I wish I knew back then. My life has been great, but there is always room for improvement.

For this assignment, I created it on photo booth actually and just imbedded into Youtube. Photobooth was the easy process for me, as I sat in my basement and worked on it. It a 4 1/2 star assignment, which I contemplated what I was going to say for a while. This assignment requires a lot less work than others, seeing as its just you and a camera, talking about what you need to do.

Dear Me….

Archives

For this assignment, I had to create a video of me speaking to my 16 year old self. This was actually a meaningful assignment for me. 16 was a big year for me and really stands out because its the year I lost my grandmother. In my video, I give my younger self a lot of advice, mainly involving the future and decisions I wish I could change. The best advice I could give me though, is to spend as much time as possible with my grandmother and let her know how much I appreciate her and love her. 11 years later and I still find myself dialing her number when I need someone to talk to……
