Once upon a time

flatness morbid eyes abnormally careless tense pounding vast predatory bumble

The little rabbit was tense when he saw the wolf coming out of the woods.  The wolf could smell the rabbit, moving to his predatory stance.

The rabbit looked at the flatness of the meadow and decided to cross the vast area. The wolf started pounding after the rabbit in is careless pursuit of him.

The wolf ran near a tree that housed a bumble bee nest. The bees were abnormally active for this time of day. When the wolf ran near, his hind end hit the tree when he turned. The bees swarmed down upon the wolf.

The rabbit looked back in morbid relief as the bees went for the eyes of the wolf.

After a few minutes, the rabbit hiding, the wolf got into the pond next to the meadow. Leaving the bees to go back to their nest

Short Story Using 10 Random Words

This is a short story assignment about an animal using ten random words from a word generator. I don’t think it will be published by a professional but it is a good effort…These are the words: fighter, swallow, rush, counting, magazine, volunteer, vital, salary, faithful, and million.

Being a volunteer fire fighter John was struggling to find a woman who would be able to deal with his vigorous schedule and lack of salary. To cope with his depression, he got a Labrador retriever named Buster. Buster quickly became a vital component of John’s life. John soon found out that Buster was one in a million and could not be replaced. Buster’s only downfall was that he tried to eat everything that John owned. One day as John was on duty, Buster went into the bathroom and started to eat a magazine that was sitting in the basket. It was something that he did all the time but this particular magazine had  sample cologne that Buster decided to swallow. John had to come home early due to food poisoning and he found Buster sick on the floor of the bathroom.  He knew that Buster was counting on him for his survival so he rushed him to the vet and saved his life. Buster was extremely faithful to john and his belongings after that day and they lived happily.

In the Jungle, the Mighty Jungle

I decided to do the writing assignment:

Short Story with random words and animal(s)

It was dark tonight. The shadows danced throughout Boston’s alleyways. Propaganda lined the city’s walls proposing that the police should be driven out. It’s been like that for a while now. No one trusts the Boston Police Department anymore.

Forensic technician Emma Callaghan just appeared to what seemed to be a suicide. It seems that a young black man had hung himself from the biggest branch of an Oak tree in one of Boston’s parks.

“What was I called here for? It’s an open and closed case.”

Before anyone could respond another police cruiser showed up. Her husband, detective Brian Callaghan stepped out. His lips curled up minutely at the sight of Emma. “Hello, love.”

“What are you doing here? Lord almighty, don’t tell me…”

“He’s been connected to the arson that happened last week. Someone’s had it in for him, sugar” Brian’s partner lewdly looked over at Emma.

“Whenever you’re done being a pig, Larson, maybe we could start doing our damn jobs.”

Brian snickered at Emma’s snarky remark. Grunting, Larson stepped around the couple to look at the body.

“Callaghan, you’re going to want to take a look at this. It looks like his mouth is all bloody. Like he tried to take a bite out of someone.” He sniffed around the body. “Good night, it smells like he’s been binge drinking for the past week.”

“Let me get some pictures before you drop the body.” Emma pulled out the camera the police gave her and started to snap pictures of the young man. As she snapped the last picture a black cat appeared at the top of the branch. It watched the police officers for a minute before it jumped down the trunk and walked up to Emma. It began meowing and begging for food. “I don’t have anything for you, sweetheart.”

The cat eyed her suspiciously and then disappeared down a nearby alley.

“You know that’s seven years bad luck, sweet cheeks?”

Glancing at the alley way the cat went down Emma responded “I think that cat already gave his bad luck to our friend here.”

Short Story with 10 Random Words and an Animal

I used the random word generator and my words are:  pieces, officer, amber, prime, awful, fool, loop, abstractly, blaze and parallel.  The animal I chose is a cat.

When I woke up this morning my cat was laying on my face.  I felt awful and I knew it was going to be a rotten day.  I drove to work as usual and was stopped by an officer who made me feel like a fool because instead of speeding I was going too slow.  I told him the the blaze of the sun was the reason, and he laughed and gave me a ticket.  When I got to work I felt like I was in a parallel universe and everything thing I did made me look like a fool.  I picked up my paperweight, a piece of amber given to me by brother, and it carelessly slipped from my fingers,  it shattered into a million pieces.  The pieces formed a abstractly shaped picture of a cat and this seemed so unnatural.  Suddenly a loud noise woke me up and I realized that this was all a dream, but the cat was still laying on my face, so I felt like I was stuck in a loop I couldn’t get out of.  I just hope that this day goes better than the one in my dream.

The Pug and the Horse

This is the “Once Upon a Time…..The End” prompt. The words I got were liquid, sadness, autopsy, hoofs, federation, finger, forest, hospital, crossfire and periodic.

One night, a fawn pug had gotten out of the his master’s house and my now roaming the dark forest. He was sniffing a large tree when suddenly a federation of hoofs stormed into the forest. The pug looked up and saw a large amount of white horses covered in metal armor. He heard loud growling and looked to his left. Their was a mass of bears with wooden weaponry. They came charging towards the horses. The pug was caught in the crossfire and trampled. As the battle ended, the animals left the dark forest. The pug lay unconscious on the forest floor all alone. The master, hearing the loud noises came rushing outside to see his pet on the ground injured. His eyes began to drip liquid sadness and he rushed his pet to the animal hospital. In the rush to get the pug treated for his injures, his paper’s were switched with an animal getting an autopsy. The pug lay on the operation table about to be cut open when a large white armored burst through the window. Startling the doctors, the horse grabbed the pug off of the operation table and waved his finger in the air. The horse felt great grief once he had found out his federation had injured a neutral animal during their battle. He felt it was his duty to use his powers to go back in time and save the pug’s life. He placed the pug away from the battle and his life was saved. Now, periodically the horse and his federation come and visit the pug.

Note: I didn’t really know what to do with the words I had so the story just got weirder and weirder as I wrote it. I started the story on Tuesday and during the week I ended up adding a lot of random stuff to it. I hope you enjoy!

SHORT STORY WITH RANDOM WORDS AND ANIMAL(S)

Write What You Cannot Say

Once upon a time, in a far land where only Birds live. There was a Caregiver chicken who was hired to take care of the old poet duck and make sure he is stable and take his painkillers on time.

“Can I get you anything before I live. Mr.Duck” Chick

A Restless Night

Early that morning there was a large crash against the window. Isabelle Franklin sprung out of bed to find nothing in sight other than the huge crack in the fence that surrounded her front lawn. She chose to ignore the racket and attempt to go back to sleep. She laid in bed for hours, waiting her eyes to shut yet they stubbornly refused. She had been waiting for days to find out when her cat, Mr. Nubz, would be discharged from the vet’s office. The funny thing was when she took in Mr. Nubz from one of her employees (a rather frivolous woman), he was merely a burden. A sexless cat who was losing tufts of hair had no interest in anything or anyone. The unfortunate hair loss caused Mr. Nubz skin to be red and irritated, and sometimes reminded Isabelle of a baboon which caused her to chuckle. She finally fell back asleep only to wake up again to the sound of her alarm. She immediately went downstairs to start her coffee. She began to butter her toast only to be interrupted by the ring of the telephone. It was the vet, as they talked her eyes teared up ever so slightly and the butter melted on her toast. Like an agent on a mission, she funneled through city traffic to get to the vet’s. When she arrived at the door she took a deep breath that filled her with courage. She entered the door to say goodbye to Mr. Nubz.

This is my “Short Story with Random words and Animal(s)” writing assignment. The following were the words I was given: discharge, crack, burden, agent, baboon, racket, sexless, melt, funnel, and courage. I chose a cat for the animal because I felt my character, Isabelle Franklin, would best be able to relate to a cat. I just started typing and incorporated all the words as best I could.

Everybody Wants to be a Cat

Short Story With Random Words And Animal (2 Points)

My random words: beaver, steel, charisma, strong, gutless, fluent, blast, smooth, again, sugar — Animal of choice: cat

I was on another case. My boss had caught word that there was to be some sort of meeting in the woods just outside the Valley Heights subdivision tonight, and he had sent me out to sleuth on this Mr. Mueller. He had been hesitant this time though after my last screw up. He said, “Sarah, you can’t screw this one up again, or else you are out of the job.” I told him I could do it, he could count on me. Mr. Mueller wouldn’t trip me up like Boris had. I wasn’t some gutless coward. I was strong.

So I made my way into the woods. My walk was smooth, so I didn’t attract attention. I crouched down in the brush at the edge of the forest to have a view of the road. Thirty minutes passed before I saw the steel vehicle barrel up the road. Two men got out, and walked into the forest about ten feet from where I had hid myself. I followed quietly behind them to a clearing where Mr. Mueller was already standing. He was tall with a beer belly. He spoke to the two men in German. Thankfully, being from New England, I was fluent as well. Mueller spoke of some sort of sugar shipment that would be arriving in the morning at a warehouse in the city. I suspected it to be code for something else. He spoke with a lot of charisma. I was enthralled. I attempted to get a closer listen, but started hearing a rustling in the bushes nearby. I froze. Was there a fourth person coming to the meeting?

A tan, furry creature crept out of the bushes five feet from me. It crawled beaver-like towards me, and suddenly I was making eyes with a sweet, ginger cat. I gasped aloud by accident, which was thankfully drowned out by a sudden sharp blast coming from the subdivision. The men quickly scattered, and it was just me and this cat. I picked him up and pet him. I think I will keep him.

STORY BEHIND THE STORY:

So I really love writing stories with random words or a randomized first sentence. It has been something I have really enjoyed ever since I was in middle school, because I am super indecisive and often struggle with a starting place for creative writing assignments. So that was why I chose to do this particular assignment from the writing assignment bank. I’m not going to lie though, I didn’t use my first set of random words.

I really wanted to try to create a story to do some more character development for my character dossier, Sarah Mustard. I chose to write in first person, with Sarah narrating, because I felt that gave it more of a noir feel. I liked the idea of telling a story of her on one of her cases. Also, she seemed like someone who would have a cat, and because I had to find a way to incorporate an animal into the story, I determined that Sarah Mustard would find a new pet cat.

ginger cat

I didn’t find it too challenging to write this story, once I got the idea for it. The random words seemed to fit together fairly well (except maybe beaver, since my story takes place in L.A.). I also couldn’t resist the opportunity to somehow make Sarah Mustard fluent in German.

Short Story with random words and animal

Short Story with random words and animal

“The billionaire whale TV producer, Mildred Orcinus, met with her committee of associates to discuss the final airing of “boardroom bulldozers”. The popular reality TV show was cancelled for the erotic use of playthings, much to the amusement of the pigs who star on the show, they will not be happy once their pay ceases. Now over to Sean Seal for the latest.”
